Abstract

In the Swamp of Sawah Village has waters surrounded by trees and aquatic plants, which function to attach periphyton organisms. Because there are many wood submerged in swamp, the substrate used is a wood substrate (epidendritic). Periphytons  is a passive moving organisms, the type and density of periphyton is influenced by water quality. Periphytons is also a water quality bioindicator. This research aims to determine the type and density of epidendritic periphyton in the swamp of Sawah Village, has been conducted from May to June 2018. Epidendritic periphyton Sampling was carried out three times, once/ two week for two month. There were 72 types of periphyton presence, they were belonged to 7 classes of Phytoperiphyton, namely Bacillariophyceae (15 species), Chlorophyceae (31 species), Cyanophyceae (11 species), Chrysophyceae (2 species), Dinophyceae (1 species), Euglenophyceae (3 species), and 3 classes Zooperiphyton, namely Monogononta (8 species), Tubulinea (1 species). Phytoperiphyton abundance was 22,031 – 23,152 cells/cm2 and Zooperiphyton 133 – 336 organisms/cm2. The periphytons Diversity index (H') was 3.08 – 4.07; Domination Index (C) was 0.07 – 0.39; Uniformity Index (E) was 0.64 – 0.76. The water quality parameters are as follows, temperature was 27 - 29 °C, brightness was 42 - 65 cm, pH 5, CO2 was 13 - 15 mg/L, oxygen was 4.16 – 5.51 mg/L, nitrate was 0.14 – 0.21 mg/L, phosphate was 0.17 – 2.79 mg/L. Abstract

Coral reef ecosystems is one of the major coastal and marine ecosystems that haveecological value, economic and aesthetic. Unfortunately, the ecosystem continuesto come under pressure from a variety of activities such as fishing, tourism, pollution and other activities. This study aims to determine the condition of coralreef ecosystems in the Regional Marine Protected Area (RMPA) East Bintan.Observations of coral reefs is done using a modification of the square transectmethod and condition of coral reefs can be estimated by the percentage of livecoral cover approach. While the analysis of water quality refers to the APHA. Tosee the linkages between the biophysical environment-chemical characteristics ofwater with each of the locations used multivariable statistical analysis approach toPCA (Principal Component Analysis). The results show that coral reefs in theMarine Protected Area Region East Bintan including the condition of 'being' to'good'. This condition is caused by the pressure of population activities in the pastsuch as sea sand mining, leaching of bauxite tailings disposal, tailings sandmining land, and the impact of destructive fishing continues until the timeresearch was conducted. Meanwhile, the measured water quality is below the seawater quality standard for marine life. Further analysis of the factors in marineenvironment conditions with live coral cover showed that the live coral cover wasnegatively correlated with most variable environmental parameters such as flowvelocity, salinity, TSS, DO, BOD5, nitrate, sediment and algae. except fortemperature, brightness, and depth and phosphate positively correlated.

Abstract

Phytoplankton is a organisms with characteristic  as primary producers and bioindicator of marin and fresh waters.  Mangrove waters and open waters generally have different characteristics of ecosystem and organism that live in these waters. The research aim to determine the difference of phytoplankton in mangrove waters and open waters including diversity, uniformity, and dominance of two type of waters. This research was conducted in Desember 2020. The sampling locations take out  in two sampling areas which are mangrove waters and open waters in th Mengkapan Village, Sungai Apit District, Siak Regency. Data identifications and analysis carried out in aquatic  ecology laboratory of  Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, University Riau. The comparison of the data of phytoplankton abundance uses the PAST application and Microsoft Excel (T-Test). The range of abundance of phytoplankton in Mengkapan Village waters is between 576-856 sel/L with Bacillariophyceae as the dominant class. There is no significant difference between the two waters, but the water Mengkapan Village has low water quality and influences the phytoplankton abundance
