Abstract

The focus of this research is to see whether the Professional Hajj Manasik Guide Certification program is just a ceremonial activity (certificate orientation) or it is really a program that qualitatively produces prospective professional Hajj Manasik Guides. To obtain results regarding the level of knowledge, this research used a quantitative research method of the type of field research originating from pre-test and post-test documents of 81 participants in the batch IV 2019 certification program. The data were then analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics t-test using the SPSS program assistance 23.0 for windows. There are two findings that can be put forward as a result of this research. First, the level of understanding of the certification participants after attending the program was in the high criteria, namely between a score of 74-81 with a percentage of 45.5% for 37 participants. This confirms that the certification activity succeeded in increasing the participants' knowledge. Second, the hypothesis which states the level of knowledge of the certification training participants is empirically proven to be accepted, positive, and significant with the t-test.

Abstract

This research discusses the discourse on shifting madhhabs (intiqalul madhhab) in the context of wukuf based on two seminal works in Islamic jurisprudence: al-Fiqh ‘ala al-Madhāhib al-Arba‘ah by Abdulrahman al-Juzairi and al-Fiqh al-Islāmī wa Adillatuhu by Wahbah az-Zuhaili. The diversity of legal interpretations among the four major Sunni madhhabs (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi‘i, and Hanbali) has made the issue of switching madhhabs a relevant topic, particularly in pilgrimage rituals like wukuf, where the validity of worship can depend on specific legal requirements. This research aims to analyze how both scholars frame the concept of intiqāl al-madhhab, and to evaluate its relevance to contemporary hajj practices. The study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, using descriptive-comparative analysis of both texts to explore methodological similarities and differences. The findings reveal that both works support the legitimacy of madhhab transition under certain shar‘i conditions. Al-Juzairi emphasizes the comparative diversity of fiqh rulings and presents detailed mazhab-based legal options for wukuf. Az-Zuhaili, on the other hand, strengthens this flexibility through in-depth textual analysis and the application of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. The study concludes that shifting madhhabs can serve as a practical and theologically grounded solution for pilgrims facing complex or difficult situations. This aligns with the Islamic legal maxims promoting ease and removing hardship, making intiqāl al-madhhab a valid contemporary approach in ritual practice.

Abstract

Tradition and worship are inseparable from Muslims, as part of religious rites that are rich in meaning and individual experiences, one of which is the Hajj tradition. This study aims to describe and analyze the meaning of the Asajere tradition for the Madurese Muslim community. The research method used is a qualitative method, descriptive-interpretive. This study uses a socio-anthropological approach. The data sources for this study come from Hajj pilgrims and the Madurese community who still practice the Asajere tradition in Gajamsana Daya Village, Pasean District, Pamekasan Regency. The researcher also uses supporting data sources from religious leaders and the Madurese community. To ensure the validity of the data, the author uses source triangulation techniques. This study results in the finding that Asajere is a form of Hajj tradition carried out to welcome the return of Hajj pilgrims. Asajere has a very philosophical meaning, as an expression of gratitude as well as a socio-religious mechanism to strengthen the moral legitimacy and social status of Hajj pilgrims in society. This tradition embodies a strong social dynamic, encompassing social solidarity, symbolic social interaction, and cultural behavior management, reflecting the principles of culture-based Hajj management. Asajere serves as a form of cultural resistance to modernization by emphasizing the identity of adaptive, reflective, and contextual local wisdom.

This study is motivated by the importance of developing the competency of candidate Hajj ritual guides, amidst the high interest in going to the Hajj, but not supported by the availability of competent resources to guide the congregation. On the other hand, the format for competency development in Islamic colleges is still not uniform, so an ideal competency development strategy based on communication skills and virtual micro-guiding is needed. This study aims to describe and analyze communication skills and virtual micro-guiding as a strategy for developing the competency of candidate professional Hajj ritual guides. This study is operationalized through qualitative analysis of critical interaction models. Data was collected from 87 candidate Hajj guides in the Department of Hajj and Umrah Management. The data results are in the form of persuasive communication practices, virtual micro-guiding from the results of in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. This study found a form of skill consisting of persuasive communication and therapeutic communication. The virtual micro-guiding form is operationalized with virtual group guiding, support group, group counseling, and teaching group devices. The implications of persuasive and therapeutic communication skills are directed at efforts to understand the Hajj ritual. Meanwhile, the implications of virtual micro-guiding are one of the national policies in developing competencies by implementing a conducive communication environment. This is the first study to examine communication skills and virtual micro-guiding as competency development strategies for hajj guides. Data related to causal factors were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the phenomenological analysis method. Meanwhile, the psychological impact was collected through the DASS-42 questionnaire. The results showed that the main factors for failure to depart include financial instability, government policies, health problems, shar'i excuses, and personal reasons. The psychological impact felt by pilgrims is depression, disappointment, and stress with normal to very severe levels. Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven significant transformations in how Hajj pilgrims present their religious experiences in public spaces. This study aims to analyze forms of self-representation among Hajj pilgrims in digital narratives published on social media platforms, as well as to examine the symbolic meanings that shape the construction of their religious identities. A qualitative approach using semiotic analysis was employed to examine ten digital posts purposively selected from Instagram and TikTok. The findings indicate that pilgrims digital narratives function not only as documentation of spiritual journeys but also as performative media through which piety, social status, and religious credibility are negotiated before broader audiences. The visual and textual representations reveal a shift from collective expressions of religiosity toward consciously constructed personal practices aimed at gaining symbolic validation and public interaction. These findings contribute to the field of religious communication by highlighting digital narratives as a new arena for the production and consumption of religious identity in the era of global connectivity.
