Abstract

Abstract

Information-seeking behavior is an activity in searching for information that is needed or desired with a specific purpose. This study aims to describe the information-seeking behavior of the Masyarakat Anti Fitnah Indonesia (MAFINDO) fact-checking team. The research method used is a qualitative approach with the type of exploratory research. The data obtained are the results of interviews with MAFINDO fact-checkers as informants and literature studies. The results showed that the information-seeking behavior of the MAFINDO fact-checking team was divided into three stages, namely before searching for information, when searching for information, and after searching for information. Before searching for information, the MAFINDO fact-checking team looked for hoaxes to be verified. When searching for information, the MAFINDO fact-checking team looks for references with predetermined criteria using tools or search engines that match the hoaxes to be verified. After searching for information, the MAFINDO fact-checking team used the references obtained, processed them into fact-checking articles, and published them. The behavior of the MAFINDO fact-checking team in conducting information seeking tends to follow Wilson (1981) information-seeking behavior model, Krikelas (1983) information-seeking behavior model, Wilson (1996) search-behavior model, and Ellis information-seeking behavior model which has been developed and expanded by Meho and Tibbo (2003). And there is no visible tendency to follow Kuhlthau (1991) information-seeking behavior model.

Abstract

Abstract: The Toyota Way is a method of corporate governance that can be applied to any institution, including libraries. This can be seen from one of the concepts, kaizen, with the 5S tools (seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, shitsuke). Kaizen assesses the continuous increase in librarian productivity and focuses on empowering employees, not only on machine tools. The method used in this study is qualitative, with data sources from interviews, observation, and documentation focusing on the librarians of the General Faculties within UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, namely the Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, and Faculty of Psychology. The study results found that libraries can apply the 5S principles (seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, shitsuke) in kaizen as a new technique for solving existing problems. The application of kaizen faces significant issues and minor problems, no matter how small the problem must be solved. Librarian productivity will increase by using suitable methods to achieve maximum results. It can be proven that applying kaizen can increase the efficiency of time utilization, prevent errors in service, and improve cleanliness and tidiness. In addition, commitment is needed in implementing a work culture between leaders and librarians. Keywords: The Toyota Way, kaizen, 5S (seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, shitsuke), librarianAbstrak: The Toyota Way merupakan metode dalam menata kelola perusahaan yang dapat diterapkan pada lembaga apapun termasuk perpustakaan. Abstract

This study is motivated by the futuristic interior design and attractive facilities of the University of Indonesia (UI) Library, which create a comfortable environment. However, statistical data show a significant decline in student visits between September and December 2023. This phenomenon raises questions about the factors influencing users' experiences, particularly their perceptions of the library's interior design, which should ideally enhance comfort and increase visitation. This research is essential to understand how interior design affects user perception and visit rates, and to provide recommendations for improvements that could boost the library's appeal among students. This study employs a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, literature review, and documentation. The population consists of 15,190 student users of UI Library, and based on Isaac and Michael's formula, a sample of 284 respondents was obtained. Accidental sampling was used as the sampling technique. The results show that users' perceptions of the interior design elements averaged 3, while the interior design principles received an average score of 3.33. Overall, the users' perception of the library's interior design averaged 3.29, falling within the "very good" range (3.28-4.03). Although the general perception is positive, the lowest scores were found in the air temperature aspect (2.63) of the design elements and in the proportion aspect (3.09) of the design principles. Therefore, it is recommended that librarians improve the aspects with the lowest scores to enhance user comfort and maintain the positive perceptions of the library.

Abstract

Introduction. This study examines the nonverbal communication of circulation librarians at Universitas Pamulang (UNPAM) Library, prompted by user complaints of unfriendly expressions, minimal eye contact, and reluctant body language. The research aims to understand how librarians use nonverbal cues when serving users. Methods. A qualitative case study approach was employed, using observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review with four users and one librarian. Data validity was ensured through triangulation. Analysis involved data reduction, display, and conclusion, interpreting nonverbal elements (gestures, facial expressions, posture) using kinesics theory. Results and Discussion. Librarians used head orientation, hand gestures, facial expressions, and posture to convey attentiveness and professionalism. Eye contact was maintained through head direction, gestures guided users, and body position fostered comfortable interactions. However, high workload occasionally impacted the quality of these nonverbal cues. Conclusion. Nonverbal communication significantly influences user perceptions and comfort during library services. Training in nonverbal communication and ergonomic workspace arrangements are recommended to enhance service quality.
