Abstract

The main objective of this study was to analysis the quality of the test used involving the content validity, reliability, level of difficulty, and discrimination power. It Studied the quality of the English test, Especially English final test used for the first semester students’ at the first, second, and the third grade of SMAN 1 Amonggedo in academic year of 2017/2018. The source of the data in this study was the student’s answer sheet of first, second, and third grade of SMAN 1 Amonggedo. The total answer sheets of the students were 178.  In analyzing the data, the researcher used a formula to analyzed content validity and also used SPSS 16 program to measure the reliability, level of difficulty, and discrimination power. The result of the content validity analysis of the test in the three levels with two classes in each level showed that all of tests were fulfill the criteria of a good test because its representative from the syllabus. Second, the finding of reliability analysis showed that almost all items of test were valid. Indeed all of test has very high reliability because the number value of reliability 0, 70 < r11  ≤ 1. The level of difficulty analysis showed that 72, 5 % in the level of medium and only 27, 5% in the level of easy. Discrimination power analysis of the test had a good discrimination, with the number of percentage 46%. It also showed that 8,3% in  poor discrimination, 13,3% in the level of sufficient, 26,6% had very good or excellent discrimination, but there was also 5,8% item skipped.

Abstract

The use of videos in education makes it possible to overcome practical real-world constraints and explore far greater possibilities provided by digital spaces, especially for the video uploaded in online platform such as blog. This study examines whether online video blog as media have a significant effect on students’ achievement of passive voice. It used pre-experimental (one group pre-test and post-test) design. The samples of this study were 10 students at 4J Operation. A pre-test and post-test were conducted by using multiple choice questions as the instruments. Data analysis was through paired-sample t-test. Results showed that there was an increase in mean score of pre-test (49,1) and post-test (63,5). Data from Paired Sample t-test showed that Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000 which was smaller than .05 which means that there was significance difference in mean score after employing treatment.

Abstract

This research was accomplished to find out the Educational Values which were consisted in Freedom Writers movie and provide detail information about the educational value of the movie. The problem of this research was what is the educational value in the Freedom Writers movie. The objective of the research was to describe and analyze the educational values in the “Freedom Writers” movie. The data sources were collected from the script of the movie that was written by Richard Lagravenese. The researcher used qualitative analysis as her research design. The source of data can be divided into two kinds: primary and secondary data. The primary data sources were the script movie of “Freedom writers” Movie that was written by Richard LaGravenes and set in 2007. The secondary data was “Freedom Writers” movie. The researcher collected the data by doing some underlining of the script which was related to educational value and then making a classification of data. In analyzing the data, there are some procedures as follows: firstly: the researcher was familiar with the data through read the whole material as the first activity, secondly coding and reducing process and thirdly, Interpretation and representing, In this technique, the writer tried to understand the meaning of the sentences or words that related to the educational values. When interpretation was on process, the researcher also concluded the data based on the code that has been given in order to answer the problem statement. This research also used descriptive analysis in analyzing the educational value to report clear information. The result confirmed that there were four value of being and five value of giving namely honesty, bravery, peace, confidence, loyalty, respect, love, and affection, kind and friendly and fair which had been found by the researcher. It was recommended to the next researcher who wants to conduct some research to found out more value which might be the weakness of this research.

Abstract

This study was aimed to develop a Telegram-based Listening and Speaking learning materials for high school students in form of a chatbot. This study was used Educational Research and Development model. The subjects of the study were the X Accountant 2 students of Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri 1 Kendari. The procedure was adapted from ADDIE model proposed by Taylor (2004) which consist of analyzing the students’ needs, designing the media flowchart, developing the media, evaluating the media, and finalizing the media. The instruments used to collect the data were needs analysis questionnaire and expert judgment questionnaire. This study developed a Telegram Bot for Listening and Speaking materials which was based in the teacher module given by the school. Based on the research findings from the expert judgment, the interactive multimedia is appropriate for students since the means score for content and media aspects were above 3,4 which were categorized as “Good”.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out whether there is a significant effect of integrating scrabble into numbered heads together at grade seven of SMP Negeri 12 Konawe Selatan or not. The research was conducted to answer the following question “Is there any significant effect of integrating scrabble into numbered heads together on students’ vocabulary achievement at grade seven of SMP Negeri 12 Konawe Selatan?”. The hypothesis of this research is “There is a significant effect of integrating scrabble into numbered heads together on students’ vocabulary achievement at grade seven of SMP Negeri 12 Konawe Selatan”. This research used quasi experimental design with population was all grade seven students at SMP   Negeri   12   Konawe   Selatan in academic year 2018/2019. The samples of this research were class VIIE as the experimental class and VIIB as control class. The experimental class consist of 28 students and control class consist of 26 students. The research instrument was 40 questions of vocabulary test. Collecting the data, the researcher gave pre-test, taught integrating scrabble into numbered heads together, and giving post-test. The result show that students’ mean score in experimental class are 55.21 at pre-test and 75.13 at post-test, while students’ mean score in control class are 55.61 in pre-test and 64.93 in post-test. Based on the calculation of T-test, it shows that the score of tcount  = 5.636 is higher than ttable  = 2.007 and the pvalue= 0.000 is lower than   = 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected and H is accepted. This can be conclude that there is a significant effect of integrating scrabble into numbered heads together on students’ vocabulary achievement at grade seven students of SMP Negeri 12 Konawe Selatan. Keywords: Scrabble, numbered heads together, vocabulary achievement

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of oral peer corrective feedback using YouTube on students’ writing skill at the eleventh grade SMAN 6 Kendari. This research conducted quasi-experimental research design. The sample was 29 students of XI MIA1 which was assigned as experimental group and 33 students of XI MIA2 which was assigned as control group. The research used probability sampling design that is cluster random sampling for taking the sample. The data of this research were collected by giving the students pre-test and post-test in the form of writing test. Then, the data were analyzed by using SPSS 17.00 using descriptive analysis and inferential statistic. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental group was higher than the control group. In the experimental group the mean score of pre-test was 45.72 and the mean score of post-test was 80.82. In comparison, in the control group the mean score of pre-test was 46.79 and the mean score of post-test was 74.28. The result of the independent sample t-test indicated that the value of sig. (2 tailed) which was lower than the significance α value (0.000 < 0.05). In other words, H1 was accepted and it means that there was a significant effect of oral peer corrective feedback by using YouTube on students’ writing skill. Furthermore, the result of the finding also showed that the learning process was also able to increase their knowledge and ideas about the topics they write. The development of ideas and knowledge in explaining topics to be structured into an interesting content.

Abstract

Emotional intelligence and translation ability level vary among individual students. The present study seeks to examine (1) the relationship between students’ emotional intelligence and their translation ability. It also aims at (2) determining which dimension of emotional intelligence can best predict students’ translation ability. The study employed a descriptive quantitative design. Participants of this study were the sixth semester students in Translation Class at English Education Department of Halu Oleo University. The population was 101 students and 80 students were taken as the sample using purposive sampling technique. The data were obtained from emotional intelligence questionnaire and students’ translation scores. The analysis used Pearson correlation and Regression analysis by using SPSS 20. The results reveal that (1) there is no significant relationship between emotional intelligence and students’ translation ability, and (2) one of the dimensions of emotional intelligence have statically relationship with students’ translation score that is self-regulation dimension. Keywords: Relationship; Emotional Intelligence; Translation Ability

Abstract

This present study aimed to examine the effect of Quizizz application on students’ learning interest and reading comprehension at SMAN 1 Raha. This study was quantitative and the design was quasi-experimental. The technique of sampling was purposive sampling in XI MIA3 as experimental class and XI MIA4 as control class. The class of XI MIA3 consists of 30 students and XI MIA4 consists of 32 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used the questionnaire to obtain data about students’ learning interest, and the test was used to obtain the data of students’ reading comprehension. The result of the questionnaire showed that there is no positive effect of Quizizz application on students' learning interest. Based on the result analyzed of independent sample t-test. The result showed that the value of sig (2- tailed) 0.073 was higher than sig 0.05. It means the that Quizizz application does not have a positive effect on students’ learning interest. While the finding of learning outcomes showed that there was a positive effect of Quizizz application on students’ reading comprehension. It was proved by the result of the independent sample t-test analyzed on SPSS 25, the value of sig (2-tailed) 001was lower than sig 0.05. It could be concluded that the use of the Quizizz application has a positive effect on students’ reading comprehension. From those findings, it could be concluded that the use of Quizizz application on students’ learning interest did not have a positive effect while on students’ reading comprehension had a positive effect.
