Abstract

Teat dipping is the activity of dipping the nipples of dairy cattle into an antiseptic solution that serves to coat and protect the nipples of livestock from harmful bacterial contamination so as not to cause disease in dairy cattle. This study aimed to obtain preliminary information about the color and screening of alkaloid and saponin content in the eco-enzyme solution, which will later be used as one of the natural antiseptic candidates for teat dipping solution in dairy cattle. This research uses descriptive analysis with the parameters observed, namely color and screening of alkaloid and saponin content in eco-enzyme solutions that have been diluted previously with the following percentages: A: 30% eco-enzyme solution + 70% aquades, B: 60% eco-enzyme solution + 30% aquades, and C: 100% eco-enzyme solution. From the results, it was found that the color of eco-enzyme solution A (transparent yellow), B (transparent yellow), and C (intense yellow and translucent color) while the qualitative test obtained A: positive, B: positive, C: positive (alkaloid content); A: negative, B: positive, and C: positive (saponin content). The results of color tests and screening of alkaloid and saponin content showed that good results were obtained in 100% eco-enzyme solution (C), which can be used as a candidate for natural teat dipping solution in dairy cows.

Abstract

Harapan Makmur Farmer Group is one of dairy farmer group in Padang. Located at Air Dingin, Balai Gadang, Koto Tangah district. Implementation of community service aims to develop a group of dairy farmers by providing knowledge in the form of the importance of hygiene and milking sanitation sanitation on milk quality. The specific target of this activity is to ensure the safety of milk consumed by the public in accordance with Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 2011 which contain minimum 3% of fat, 2.7% of protein, 8% solid non fat (SNF) and maximum contaminated with 1x106 CFU/ml of microba. This community service using the transfer knowledge method, that was counseling, discussion, and pilot project. Brochures were used to support this community service activity. Guidance and coaching for farmers were carried out periodically through coordination with the group leader. This community service program was beneficial in the implementation of science and information on hygienic maintenance of dairy cows and the application of good milking sanitation. The quality of milk produced Harapan Makmur farmer groups after this community service program has fulfilled SNI standardssuch as fat content 4.02% , protein 3.56%, and total plate count (TPC) 2.5x105 CFU/ml, but still low in SNF that is 6.95%, it’s caused by improper feeding manajement, where cows consume too much tofu dregs that contain high water content. Farmers are expected to implementa good dairy maintenance management to improve milk quality, so that it will increase the selling price which also followed by increased income and welfare of farmers.

Abstract

This activity aims to increase buffalo milk production by improving feed management through the application of science and technology will lead to an increase in the income of Murrah buffalo breeders. This program is conducted to the Kelok Rambai livestock Group, Kapau, Tilatang Kamang District, Agam Regency. This farmer group received assistance from the provincial government of West Sumatra, 15 Murrah buffaloes as milk producers, where the milk produced is fermented into curd. The pattern of maintenance is semi-intensive and the feed provided is inadequate both in quantity and quality and the lack of knowledge of farmers so that the productivity of buffaloes is still low. The method of activities carried out in this service is participatory community empowerment including counseling, training, guidance, discussion and evaluation/monitoring. The training/pilot of feed technology introduced is multi-nutrient feed supplement, namely Urea Saka Blok, and ammoniated rice straw as a quality fiber feed ingredient. In addition, the cultivation of legume feed is indigofera plants which can be used as green concentrate because high protein content. The results of using ammoniated rice straw supplemented with Urea Saka Blok in buffaloes increased feed consumption significantly from an average of 2.5% to 2.75% of body weight or an increase of 0.25%. This increase in feed consumption has implications for milk production which was initially 2 liters per day, increased to 3 liters per day or an increase of about 50%, and what is quite interesting is that until the 10th month of lactation milk production is still 3 liters per day. It is hoped that the community service activities at the Kelok Rambai Cattle Farmer Group can increase the income of group members, apply good maintenance management, increase motivation, apply sustainable introduced feed technology and make Nagari Kapau as one of the centers for Murrah buffalo farming producing milk/curd. in West Sumatra.

Abstract

The Murrah buffalo is a breed of dairy-type river buffalo that has better milk production than the Mud buffalo. In West Sumatra, buffaloes are generally kept traditionally and the feed provided is low-quality field grass without providing concentrate so that productivity has not shown good results. This increase in productivity can be done through improving maintenance management and improving the quality of the feed given to buffaloes. Community service is an activity that aims to provide knowledge in technological innovation to breeders in the form of providing probiotics and the use of local forage feeds, especially cassava leaves as supplementary feed for buffaloes to increase production and quality of buffalo milk in order to increase farmers' income, while the specific target is expected to foster community self-reliance. in an effort to use local forage as animal feed. The method applied is counseling, training/pilots and discussion are the best ways to transfer knowledge and technology to farmers, while guidance and coaching can be done periodically through coordination with the head of the Kelok Rambai Cattle Farmer's group, Nagari Kapau, Tilatang Kamang District, Agam Regency. is the only livestock group in Kab. Agam who raises Murrah buffalo as a producer of curd. The results obtained were an increase in milk production 3.25 vs 4.75 l/day and milk quality: fat 5.47 vs 6.26%, Protein 4.35 vs 5.60%, SNF 10.76 vs 11.85% and water content 82.20 vs 81.75%. The conclusion of this activity is that the provision of probiotics and cassava leaf pellet supplement feed can increase the production and quality of Murrah buffalo milk and increase the income of farmers.

Abstract

Goats are one of the small ruminants as meat and milk producers (dual-purpose), but cow's milk is widely sold in the market. Goat milk is no less nutritious than cow's milk; besides having an advantage in protein content, goat milk also contains more vitamins A and B (especially riboflavin and niacin). One of the goats widely cultivated by farmers and utilized as a source of animal protein, meat, and milk is the Ettawa crossbred goat. As researchers have widely reported, the potential of Ettawa crossbred goats is that milk producers are still very diverse, ranging between 0.45 and 2.2 kg/head/day. This is generally caused by maintenance management, which still needs to be improved. The purpose of this service is to counsel Azhar Farm farms on the management of raising Ettawa crossbred goats to get maximum productivity. The methods used are counseling, training, coaching, discussion, and evaluation of service activities. The activity results include improving farmers' ability to apply the management of raising Ettawa crossbred goats, which are dairy-type goats (milk producers), and increasing their productivity. It is hoped that this activity can motivate farmers to develop their livestock business to improve livestock health, increase population, increase production, and increase income for farmers.

Abstract. Roza E, Aritonang SN, Susanti H, Sandra A. 2019. Synchronization of GnRH and PGF2? on estrus response, pregnancy, progesterone hormones in crossing of swamp buffalo and water buffalo in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 2910-2914. This study aims to determine the effect of GnRH and PGF2? synchronization on estrus emergence, pregnancy percentage, progesterone hormone levels and blood profile from artificial insemination (AI) of swamp and water buffalo crossing in Sijunjung, West Sumatra. The samples were 21 female swamp buffaloes with criteria clinically healthy, age ? 2.5 years and not pregnant. All buffalos on the first day were synchronized using 250 ?gGnRH (Fertagyl®, Intervet International). All of the buffaloes received 12.5 ?g PGF2? on the seventh day after GnRH injection. On the second day after injection of PG2?, the observation of estrus was carried out, the buffalos with estrus symptoms appeared after performing AI for 18 hours which the estrus symptoms was seen using a 0.5 ml Murrah buffalo semen with a sperm concentration of 500 million. Blood serum of 3-5 ml for the examination of progesterone levels was taken on days 21, 24, and 27 after appeared in AI. Hormone analysis was performed using the Enzyme-Linked Immunoabsorbent Assay (ELISA) method. The variables measured were the percentage of estrus, pregnancy, progesterone hormone levels, and blood profile. Pregnancy examination (PE) was carried out after 90 days in AI through rectal palpation. The data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed synchronization of GnRH and PG2? hormones in buffalo cattle which had 100% estrus, 66.67% pregnancy after AI, pregnant buffalo progesterone concentration 5.09-8.87 ng/mL and non-pregnant 1.11-3.45 ng/mL, total blood protein 7.9 g/L and blood glucose 86.86 mg/dL. The conclusion of this study is that the combination of GnRH and PG2? gives a clear appearance of estrus, progesterone hormone levels, and optimal buffalo blood profile.

Abstract

Abstract. Aritonang SN, Roza E, Sandra A. 2020. Short Communication: Application of bacteriocin from Lactobacillus plantarum SRCM 1 004 34 strain isolated from okara as a natural preservative in beef sausage. Biodiversitas 21: 2240-2243. Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) can be found in food and most of the LAB have beneficial effects for humans as potential probiotics. LAB isolated from okara (soy milk pulp) produces antimicrobial compounds called bacteriocins which can be used as natural preservatives in sausages. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of this bacteriocin from LAB as a natural preservative in sausages. The bacteriocin was isolated from Lactobacillus plantarum SRCM 1 004 34 strain isolated from Okara. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used in 4 X 4 factorial pattern by three replicates The first factor was the percentage addition of bacteriocin (B): 0% (B0), 0.3% (B1), 0.6% (B2) and 0.9% v/b (B3). The second factor was the length of sausage storage time at 4°C (L): 0 days (L0), 4 days (L1), 8 days (L2) and 12 days (L3). The observed variables were moisture content, protein, fat, pH, total aerobic bacteria, and sausage fatty acid profile. The results showed that the content of protein, fat, and the bacterial count was significantly influenced by the interaction of the percentage addition of bacteriocin and storage time. pH was significantly affected by bacteriocin dose and storage time but was not affected by the interaction of other factors. The moisture content of the sausage was significantly affected by storage time. The results of this study showed that sausages treated with 0.9% bacteriocin (B3) with a maximum storage time of 12 in the refrigerator was still safe to be consumed.
