Abstract

Correlation between VDO with length of little finger in Malay Deutro sub race. The correct determination of vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) is an important step to to concern for dentist in clinical procedures of dental treatment. VDO is defined as the distance between two selected anatomic points, one point on maxilla and the other on mandibule in centric occlusion. There are various measurements of VDO methods suggested. Recently, many researchers have been studied antropometric method to determine the VDO. One of the antropometric methods is the length of little finger measurement. VDO and length of little finger are influenced by human race and each race has different specific characteristic. This study choose Malay Deutro sub race as one of sub-races in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between measurement of DVO and length of little finger of Malay Deutro sub race in Padang. This study use observational analysis with cross sectional approach. The samples consist of 56 males and 56 females, 112 respondents in total. The respondents are Malay Deutro sub race that domicile in Padang and are eligible. The data were analyzed by Pearson correlation test. VDO and length of little finger of Mal ay Deutro sub race was significantly correlated (r value= 0,768) and the result of VDO was almost equal with length of little fi nger (p value= 0,000) that means statistically significant. The Antropometric parameter measurement of the length of little finger can be used in determination of VDO.

Abstract

Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) bridge is the most of treatment that commonly used as a fixed partial dentures. One of the indication for PFM bridge is to replacing the loss of posterior teeth. This case report discussed about the treatment of posterior missing teeth with PFM bridge. Objective: to explain the clinical procedures of PFM bridges to treat the patient with posterior missing teeth. Case report: A 29-years old woman came to prosthodontic clinic in Faculty of Dentistry University of Padjadjaran with chief complaint of right maxillary posterior missing teeth. The treatment planning that have been choosen for this case was the porcelain fused to metal bridge due this excellent characteristic of resistence to mastication force compared with other types of bridge such as all ceramic or all acrylic bridge. Beside that, the aesthetic achievement of this kind of bridges is more excellent than all metal bridges. Disscussion: A spatial analysis, calculation the number of abutment against which used, and selected design bridge very determine the success of this treatment. In addition to that, the clinical procedures consisting of abutment teeth preparation, an accurate impression, and appropriate cementation were needed to get the satisfactory result. Conclusions: The porcelain fused to metal bridge is a appropriate option for posterior missing teeth treatment that fullfil satisfactorical biomechanical and esthetic factors.

Abstract

Forensic odontology in dentistry is used to identify victims. Several methods can be used, such as rugoscopy. Rugoscopy is a victim identification method by evaluating the palatal rugae. Rugoscopy is very advantageous due to its low cost, fast results and practical nature. Palatal rugae is protected from trauma and high temperature due to its internal position in the oral cavity. Palatal rugae is an individualistic structure, though it bears several resemblance with the hereditary pattern due to the polygenic mechanism. The purpose of this research is to determine the difference of palatal rugae shape and size between uncle and nephew in Minangkabau ethnics. This study is an analytical observational study with a cross sectional approach. A total of 78 pairs of uncle and nephew of the Minangkabau ethnicity in Luhak Nan Tigo. Palatal rugae is classified using the Thomaz and Khutze classification. Data were analyzed by using Mann Whitney non-parametric statistical analysis. Data analysis show the palatal rugae shape of uncle and nephew from the Minangkabau ethnicity is dominated by a wavy shape, followed by curvy, straight, unified and circular shapes. The palatal rugae size of uncle and naphew from the Minangkabau ethnicity is dominated by primary size, followed by secondary and fragmenter size. Mann Whitney analysis revealed no significant difference of palatal rugae shape and size between uncle and nephew in Minangkabau ethnics (p>0,05), though there is a significant difference in the unified shape (p<0,05). Palatal rugae shape and size have a similar pattern with hereditery patterns, though not identical. Palatal rugae may be used as a secondary method of victim identification Keywords : Rugoscopy, palatal rugae, uncle and nephew

Abstract

Nowadays one of the prime concern in dentistry is on preservation of remaining natural teeth. Many patients require replacement of missing teeth and associated structures to enhance appearance, improve masticatory efficiency, prevent unwanted movement of teeth (overeruption/ drifting), and/ or improve phonetics. Presence of few teeth in oral cavity helps in preserving alveolar ridge integrity, maintain the proprioception, and gives psychological benefit to the patient. This case report presents a case of a 54-years-old female with few remaining teeth, one remaining tooth in maxilla and two remaining teeth in mandible. Patient wants to get her masticatory function and aestethic back with maintain her remaining teeth. Cu-sil denture is one of the simplest removable partial denture that can replace missing teeth where only few teeth remain in oral cavity. A Cu-sil denture is a denture with holes, lined by a gasket, the holes that providing space for remaining natural teeth to emerge into the oral cavity through the denture.
