Abstract

The discovery of various manuscripts, the offer of new theories, the paradigm shifts, the popularity of studies and so on have highlighted the journey of hadith studies from time to time. The study of hadith should continue to develop, by not detaching itself from the previous legacy (waṣl) and by not neglecting contextualization and dialogue with the development of other sciences (faṣl). By using a qualitative approach, literature review and content analysis, this paper examines the dialectic of thesis and antithesis of hadith studies with empirical research related to isnād and matn. In addition, this paper also gives an offer to use alternative validation to authenticate hadith. Archaeological studies, external evidence from non-Islamic sources, historical reports from non-Muslims and cons have also highlighted the studies carried out by revisionist and traditionalist schools. Alternative validation of hadith can be traced through alternative proof of isnād with i‘tibar al-asānīd on hadith that are considered as week, or through abstraction of hadith and living hadith which reflects the phenomena of texts which made concise and lived in society.   Penemuan berbagai manuskrip, tawaran teori baru, pergeseran paradigma, popularitas kajian dan lain sebagainya ikut mewarnai perjalanan kajian hadis dari waktu ke waktu. Kajian hadis harus tetap berkembang, dengan tidak melepaskan dirinya dari pijakan warisan terdahulu (waṣl) dan tidak mengabaikan kontekstualisasi dan dialog dengan perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan lain (faṣl). Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, kajian literatur dan analisis konten, makalah ini akan mengkaji tentang dialektika tesis dan antitesis kajian hadis dengan penelitian empiris yang berkaitan dengan isnād dan matn. Di samping itu, tulisan ini juga memberikan tawaran untuk menggunakan validasi alternatif terhadap otentikasi suatu hadis. Kajian arkeologis, pembuktian eksternal dari sumber-sumber non-Islam, laporan historis dari non-Muslim dan kontra ikut mewarnai kajian yang dilakukan aliran revisionis dan tradisionalis. Validasi alternatif hadis dapat melalui pembuktian alternatif isnād dengan i‘tibar al-asānīd atas hadis-hadis yang dianggap daif, serta abstraksi hadis dan living hadis yang merupakan fenomena teks yang dibuat ringkas dan hidup di dalam masyarakat.

Abstract

The exoteric dimension is a systematic basis in looking for surface meaning of hadith. Whereas the esoteric dimension used to look for the unspeakable, the essential and the signal meaning. Understanding hadith meaning with both dimensions will explain the surface and deep meaning of hadith. By using qualitative approach, literary research and content analysis, this paper will discuss how the development of exoteric and esoteric dimensions in understanding hadith and both relationship. Each Islamic scholars has his own method when looking for the esoteric dimension in understanding hadith. Al-Ḥakīm al-Tirmiżī used proverbs (amṡāl), al-Ghazālī used consideration (i‘tibār), and Ibn al-'Arab Ibn al-‘Arabī used trainings (riyāḍāt) and struggles (mujāhadāt). Although using different terms, they agreed that the esoteric dimension must be based on the exoteric dimension. The detachment of the esoteric dimension from the exoteric dimension will cause the loss of the meaning foundation and will fall into bāṭiniyyah method.

Abstract

Ijazah adalah salah satu metode dalam taḥammul wa adā’ al-ḥadīṡ dimana guru memberikan izin kepada muridnya untuk meriwayatkan suatu hadis, baik dengan lisan atau tulisan, dengan memberikan informasi secara global menurut tradisi yang ada. Kajian sanad digital yang berupa ijazah sanad hadis dalam kajian hadis di media online, utamanya di media sosial seperti Facebook, masih belum banyak dikaji. Artikel ini akan membahas bagaimana validitas sanad digital dengan memberikan sanad ijazah secara online serta pengaruhnya dalam kajian hadis virtual. Tulisan ini adalah penelitian literatur dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan analisis konten. sanad digital yang tertulis sebagaimana diberikan oleh Dār al-Ḥadīṡ fī Kirkūk dan al-Madrasah al-Rabbāniyyah, yang berisi lengkap dengan sanad hadis, nomor dan tanggal ijazah, nama kitab, nama guru, nama penerima ijazah, asal negara, ijazah secara umum atau khusus, mendengarkan dengan sepenuhnya, sebagian, atau sebagian kecil, tanggal ijazah, stempel pengelola kajian dan lainnya, dan kemudian diperiksa lagi oleh pemberi ijazah, termasuk kategori arfa‘ al-ijāzah (ijazah yang paling tinggi). Fenomena kajian hadis di Grup Facebook Dār al-Ḥadīṡ fī Kirkūk dan Halaman Facebook al-Madrasah al-Rabbāniyyah menunjukkan bahwa era digital semakin menambah masifnya kajian hadis. Pemahaman masyarakat akan berbagai bentuk kajian hadis, utamanya hadis musalsal, menjadi lebih baik karena mempraktekkannya secara langsung. Di samping itu, kajian hadis tradisional harus tetap dilestarikan di era digital yang tanpa batas ruang dan waktu.

Abstract

The discourse on hadith transmission within the Sufi tradition presents a compelling subject for inquiry, particularly concerning its inherent dynamics and the intellectual tensions arising between Sufi practitioners and ḥadīth scholars. While Sufis define themselves as guardians of Prophetic teachings through spiritual realization and divine connection, a paradoxical divergence emerges: their methods of transmission often contravene the principles of validation recognized by mainstream scholarship. Departing from this apparent contradiction, this study investigates the epistemological framework through which Sufis engage with hadith and the methodological principles underpinning their transmission practices. Employing a descriptive-qualitative methodology in library research methodology, relevant data were systematically collected, verified for authenticity, classified thematically, and subjected to critical analysis and reflection. This inquiry reveals that the transformation within Sufi circles and the doctrine of taṣawwuf itself is fundamentally shaped by historical shifts, with each epoch developing distinct forms and modes of praxis. The principal finding of this research lies in the demonstration that the evolution of transmission practices follows a discernible trajectory: it originated within the traditional framework governed by the isnād system, transitioned into a phase marked by the simplification or truncation of isnāds, and culminated in the emergence of methods radically distinct from the established tradition of hadith scholars. This final stage is characterized by alternative methodologies based on kashf and ru’yā. The adoption of these alternative methods stems from the Sufi ambition to maintain a continuous spiritual connection with the Prophet, a connection they contend is accessible primarily through contemplative practice. While contemplation possesses a basis for legitimacy within Prophetic tradition, its application as a formal channel for transmitting ḥadīth risks replicating a historical peril: the proliferation of fabricated hadiths. This risk arises from the inherent difficulty of verifying the chain of transmission (isnād) and the matn of such experientially-received knowledge through the systematic criteria developed within the classical science of hadith. Abstract

A lack of understanding of religious texts, anthropocentric views, and the absence of integral human consciousness within the universe are among the causes of environmental damage. Understanding the prophetic environmental message in the hadith is one way to address these problems. The terms related to preserving the environment in the hadith are ḥafiẓa and ra‘ā, while those associated with destruction are fasada and halaka. By using a thematic approach to these terms in various hadith texts, several basic ideas about the prophetic environmental message delivered by Rasulullah (PBUH) can be identified. In preserving the environment, the prophetic messages include maintenance goals, inclusive ownership, positive contributions, use based on function, sustainable programs, limited use, and joint supervision in utilizing the environment. In contrast, environmental damage includes exploitative goals, exclusive ownership, negative contributions, incorrect use, unsustainable programs, unlimited use, and self-supervision. The religious texts on the environment in the hadith are not merely preserved texts. These texts should continually be brought to life in order to generate new interpretations in response to existing environmental phenomena.
