Abstract

The lack of understanding of religious texts, anthropocentric views and lack of integral human consciousness in the universe is one of the causes of environmental destruction. Understanding of environmental prophetic message in ḥādīth is one way to solve the problem. The sentences relating to maintaining the environment in the ḥādīth are ḥafiẓa and ra'ā, while those pertaining to corrupting are fasada and halaka. Using the thematic approach to the sentence in various editorials of the ḥādīth, I found the basic ideas about the prophetic message of the circulation conveyed by the Prophet Muhammad. In keeping with the environment, prophetic messages cover maintenance goals, inclusive ownership, positive contributions, use-based usage, sustainable programs, limited utilization and jointly controlled use. The environmental destruction includes exploitative goals, exclusive ownership, negative contributions, incorrect use, and unsustainable, unlimited and self-supervised programs. The religious texts on the environment in the ḥādīth are not dead texts. This text should always be turned on to bring a new interpretation of the existing environmental phenomenon.

Abstract

Some researchers claim that Muslim scholars do not emphasize the importance of Bayt al-Maqdis as strongly as they do upon the two holy cities of Islam, Makkah and Madinah. Even when they do, their writings are mixed with weak and forged narrations. Additionally, their efforts aimed to strengthen the political position of certain caliphs. In the current regional situation, some Muslims radically and literally interpret the hadith out of context to support the liberation of Bayt al-Maqdis. They believe that participating in jihadi group is a noble effort, even if it involves suicide bombings. Based on these issues, this article explores the efforts of scholars in hadith scholarship related to Bayt al-Maqdis. Specifically, it examines the perspective of a prominent hadith scholar, Imam al-Bukhari, in his initiative to compile hadiths, which he placed in different chapters of his book al-Jāmi’ al-Ṣaḥīḥ. This study employs a library research approach involving content analysis. The findings of this study reveal that numerous Muslim scholars have contributed significantly to Islamic scholarship in Bayt al-Maqdis through writing and the dissemination of knowledge. Specifically, they compiled hadiths about Bayt al-Maqdis in certain books and chapters. Imam al-Bukhari documented 12 narrations related to Bayt al-Maqdis in 9 books and 13 chapters. This study selected one hadith that is almost identical but is placed under four different chapters. This illustrates the unique way a single narration, both textually and contextually, can explain the significance and position of Bayt al-Maqdis in Islam from diverse and interesting perspectives. This study recommends continuing the exploration of hadiths related to Bayt al-Maqdis to examine various other forms of Tarājim. This will help the Muslim community, in particular, to understand the hadith texts comprehensively while simultaneously refuting the argument that Islam neglects this third holy city.

Abstract

The exoteric dimension is a systematic basis in looking for surface meaning of hadith. Whereas the esoteric dimension used to look for the unspeakable, the essential and the signal meaning. Understanding hadith meaning with both dimensions will explain the surface and deep meaning of hadith. By using qualitative approach, literary research and content analysis, this paper will discuss how the development of exoteric and esoteric dimensions in understanding hadith and both relationship. Each Islamic scholars has his own method when looking for the esoteric dimension in understanding hadith. Al-Ḥakīm al-Tirmiżī used proverbs (amṡāl), al-Ghazālī used consideration (i‘tibār), and Ibn al-'Arab Ibn al-‘Arabī used trainings (riyāḍāt) and struggles (mujāhadāt). Although using different terms, they agreed that the esoteric dimension must be based on the exoteric dimension. The detachment of the esoteric dimension from the exoteric dimension will cause the loss of the meaning foundation and will fall into bāṭiniyyah method.

Abstract

The study of Muwaṭṭa’ Mālik and the Mālikī school dominated in al-Andalus from the 2nd/8th century to the 3rd /9th century. The following two centuries marked the decline of Muwaṭṭa’ Mālik studies in al-Andalus. Therefore, the study of the 5th/11th is very important to illustrate how the transition from the domination of Muwaṭṭa’ Mālik to the domination of other books, in this case is al- Andalus. One of them is the work of Muḥammad bin Farj al-Qurṭubī al-Mālikī (d. 497/1104), known as Ibn al-Ṭallā‘ in his book, Aqḍiyat Rasūl Allāh ṣallā Allāh ‘alaihi wa sallam. This research employs a qualitative approach, literature studies and content analysis. This article discusses the criticism of Ibn al- Ṭallā’ on the orthodoxy of the Mālikī school and the process of reconciling hadith and Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) in al-Andalus in the 5th/11th century. Ibn al-Ṭallā‘enjoyed academic freedom amidst political and identity chaos at that time. With such chaos, views of non-Mālikī Islamic scholars were more numerous and they were getting freedom of expression. Hence, he was welcome to depart from Mālikī orthodoxy by quoting opinions from other schools and comparing them. The combination of fiqh and hadith sources, as well as the combination of the opinions of Mālik ibn Anas and other schools, became an achievement for Ibn al-Ṭallā‘. This achievement went through several processes and stages, especially since the Mālikī school and Muwaṭṭa’ still dominated since they became the official schools of the Umayyad dynasty in al-Andalus in the 2nd/8th century until the 3rd/9th century.

Abstract

This article delves into an extensive project concerning the development of the umrah industry in Indonesia and its relationship with the interpretation of Hadith. Specifically, it examines the impact of the pandemic on this brief pilgrimage practice in Indonesia, a predominantly Muslim society. Despite the economic setbacks, the pandemic has significantly influenced the widespread use of social media globally. Indonesian Muslims, being active netizens, have shown a strong desire to reconnect with the sacred sites in Mecca and Medina. This article employs a multifaceted approach to investigate the utilization of social media by Indonesian muṭawwifs-vloggers, employing intersecting methodologies. Firstly, it conducts a textual study focusing on thematic badal Umrah. Secondly, it involves (online) observations and  participation in the activities of various muṭawwifs vloggers based in Saudi Arabia. The result of this research is that cyber-mediated Umrah experiences cannot fully substitute the physical pilgrimage journey. Badal Umrah, primarily rooted in the badal Hajj Hadiths. It emerges as a crucial practice during times of crises and being used as legitimacy inoffering assistance to those who are physically unable to undertake the journey. Consequently, there has been an increased acceptance of Hadiths related to Hajj and Umrah during the pandemic, ." In addition, Muṭawwifs play a pivotal role in facilitating communication between i forced mobility of aspiring pilgrims during the pandemic, thereby emphasizing the importance of ethical considerations. Lastly, the activities in the cyber-space realm align with three essential dimensions: providing an imaginative travel experience for dispersed audiences, engaging muṭawwifs as navigators in the cyber-space, and addressing ethical considerations concerning badal Umrah amidst health and financial challenges.

Abstract

Understanding the hadith with different methods may have either the same result or different results, especially between ra’yu and hadith experts. The struggle for authority on understanding hadith makes this study more interesting because it involves understanding hadith itself, differences in schools of thought and which method is more authoritative in practicing a hadith. This paper discusses how Ibn al-Labbād criticized the hadith authority of as-Shafi’ī and the struggle for hadith authority and meaning. This paper uses a qualitative approach with literature review, and content analysis. The object of research in this paper is the work of Ibn al-Labbād (d. 333/944) along with his work in ar-Radd ‘alā as-Shāfi’ī. There are four categories of criticism by Ibn al-Labbād, they are: criticism of definitions, the causes of the appearance of hadith (asbāb al-wurūd), hadiths that are not fit with the verses of the Qur’an and laws that are not found in the hadith. Ibn al-Labbād’s critique of the interpretation of as-Shafi’ī is a proof that hadith text is not limited only to the understanding of the Shafi’ī school. Likewise, what was done by as-Shafi’ī also a proof so that the understanding of hadith is not only dominated and controlled by Malik.

Abstract

The variety of ways in which scholars have written the hadith in their works indicates the existence of specific purposes and motivations for the choice of hadith narration in Islamic literature. This article examines the dynamics of hadith transmission historically and thematically. It focuses on two phases: the pre-tadwīn and post-tadwīn phases of the development of hadith narration; and the pattern and impact of the choice of narration in each period. This research uses qualitative analysis with library research as the source of data. As a result, it was found that there were three periods (three types of people's needs) for religious knowledge that considered the selection of hadith narration in Islamic literature. In these three periods, the writing of hadith in a field of knowledge experienced diverse and evolving trends. Like the field of exegesis which used hadith as a support for argumentation by mixing the Prophet's words with the opinions of the Companions and the fatwas of the tābi'īn, it later developed into a more systematic form with the same function. These developments show that there were adjustments in the narration of hadith in Islamic literature by considering the needs of the people as well as the function of hadith in certain scientific fields. {Ragam cara ulama menuliskan hadis dalam karyanya mengindikasikan keberadaan tujuan dan motivasi khusus atas pemilihan periwayatan hadis dalam literatur Islam. Artikel ini meneliti dinamika periwayatan hadis tersebut secara historis dan tematik. Terdapat dua fokus yang diungkap artikel ini, yaitu fase periodisasi perkembangan periwayatan hadis pra-tadwīn hadis dan pasca-tadwīn; serta pola dan dampak pemilihan periwayatan pada setiap periode. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis kualitatif dengan sumber data pustaka (library research). Hasilnya, diketahui bahwa terdapat tiga masa (tiga jenis kebutuhan masyarakat) terhadap pengetahuan keagamaan yang menjadi pertimbangan pemilihan periwayatan hadis dalam literatur Islam. Dalam tiga masa tersebut, penulisan hadis di suatu bidang ilmu mengalami kecenderungan yang beragam dan berkembang. Seperti bidang tafsir yang menjadikan hadis sebagai pendukung argumentasi dengan mencampurkan sabda Nabi dengan pendapat sahabat maupun fatwa tābi’īn, kemudian berkembang menjadi lebih sistematis dengan fungsi yang sama. Perkembangan yang ada menunjukkan bahwa terdapat penyesuaian periwayatan hadis dalam literatur Islam dengan mempertimbangkan kebutuhan masyarakat serta fungsi hadis pada bidang keilmuan tertentu.}

Abstract

Introduction: Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections remain the most prevalent parasitic diseases globally. In elderly individuals, such infections can lead to significant morbidity, including anemia, fatigue, decreased activity levels, cognitive impairment, nutritional deficiencies, and gastrointestinal disturbances. This case report aims to highlight a rare instance of severe anemia caused by worm infestation in an elderly patient. Case: A 57-year-old male presented with a 7-day history of fatigue, dizziness, and marked pallor, accompanied by worsening abdominal pain over the past 5 days. Physical examination revealed moderate illness with pale conjunctiva, a mildly distended abdomen, and hyperactive bowel sounds. Laboratory tests showed a significant drop in hemoglobin, hematocrit, erythrocyte count, serum iron, TIBC, and ferritin levels. Endoscopic evaluation revealed esophagitis, a Forrest III gastric ulcer, and multiple worms in the duodenum, later identified macroscopically as Ascaris lumbricoides. Discussion: Worm infection is the most recent known diagnosis. The patient has undergone a complete stool analysis, but no worm eggs were found microscopically. This condition is very likely a false negative due to various factors, such as a less fresh stool sample (not examined immediately within 30 minutes) and human error by the analyst. The diagnosis was made after an endoscopic examination and multiple worms were found in the duodenum. When viewed from the large number of worms, it is likely that the patient has a severe and chronic worm infection. This is what causes the patient to suffer from anemia gravis with Hb 5.9. Conclusions: Initial clinical and laboratory assessments led to a diagnosis of anemia gravis. The patient received three units of packed red cells. Further investigations confirmed microcytic hypochromic anemia due to iron deficiency and chronic inflammation, with parasitic infection as the underlying cause. Treatment with a single 400 mg dose of albendazole resulted in clinical improvement, allowing for safe discharge.

Abstract

Religious activities in Indonesia suffered such massive turmoil that social media was used as a container. Then, the devotion performed by one individual is an obligation for Indonesian Muslims and the world. The spread of religious content in the virtual world seemed to upset Muslim viewers about the authenticity and validity of the source of the content distributed by an account on social media of various platforms. However, through the Book of Mercy, the author sees that there is an offer of innovation about the virtual authority of prophecy so as not to cause a faulty expansion of science. What's more, the diverse understanding of content creators has the potential to complain to the sheep and spread propaganda to the general public. Through a library-based study using the intertextuality glasses that were designed by Julia Kristeva, the message and substance of H. Oemar Bakry's offer to look at the problem will be depicted. Thus, this paper aims to respond to the new offer by creating an agency under the government's auspices of virtual authority. The aim is to counteract the provocative, tendentious, biased, subjective, and evocative messages that float in the virtual universe. Starting from this research, it will be illustrated that this study has produced a new finding that H. Oemar Bakry offers the meaning of forming a strong, honest, and orderly group of preachers. The function of the jury is to be a source of reference for the treasures of Indonesian Islamic sciences.

Abstract

The discovery of various manuscripts, the offer of new theories, the paradigm shifts, the popularity of studies and so on have highlighted the journey of hadith studies from time to time. The study of hadith should continue to develop, by not detaching itself from the previous legacy (waṣl) and by not neglecting contextualization and dialogue with the development of other sciences (faṣl). By using a qualitative approach, literature review and content analysis, this paper examines the dialectic of thesis and antithesis of hadith studies with empirical research related to isnād and matn. In addition, this paper also gives an offer to use alternative validation to authenticate hadith. Archaeological studies, external evidence from non-Islamic sources, historical reports from non-Muslims and cons have also highlighted the studies carried out by revisionist and traditionalist schools. Alternative validation of hadith can be traced through alternative proof of isnād with i‘tibar al-asānīd on hadith that are considered as week, or through abstraction of hadith and living hadith which reflects the phenomena of texts which made concise and lived in society.
