Abstract

Pendahuluan.

Abstract

Glucose functions as the human body main fuel which is responsible for producing energy. Risk factors are related to blood glucose levels: age, genetics, exercise habits, diet, stressors/trauma, smoking habits, obesity. The duration of surgery can affect blood glucose levels and cause the anesthesia to take longer, which can have an impact on blood glucose levels. The stress response to surgery is a change in the metabolic and hormonal systems, responses resulting in an increase in blood glucose levels or reactive hyperglycemia. To analyze of blood glucose levels pre and post operative based on duration of surgery at Dr. M. Djamil Hospital, Padang. This research using a cohort study design with T-test analysis. The sample in this study was selected using consecutive sampling techniques and the number of samples in this study 54 patients. The highest mean of blood glucose levels were found at the neurosurgery, which was 111.20+18.62 mg/dL in preoperative and 182.60+58.94 mg/dL in postoperative. The highest mean of blood glucose levels were found in the severe duration of surgery (>120 minutes), 94.69+16.90 mg/dL in preoperative and 122.19+42.37 mg/dL in postoperative with significant increase (p<0.05). The severe duration of surgery increased postoperative blood glucose levels.

Abstract

The use of cotton buds to clean ears is still widely done by the community without knowing the effects of using cotton buds. Cotton buds can cause otitis externa, cerumen prop and even perforation of the tympanic membrane. The purpose of community service is to provide education about the impact of using cotton buds to clean ears, as well as to create SOPs for cerumen props and ear hygiene. This community service consists of three steps, namely problem discovery, education on the impact of using cotton buds and creating SOPs for cotton buds and ear hygiene. The results of community service activities are in the form of problem discovery, increased knowledge and SOPs.The results of community service are that the community still does not know the correct way to clean ears, increased knowledge after providing education, as well as SOPs for cerumen props and ear hygiene. The conclusion of community service activities is increasing knowledge through education for health workers at the Taluak Tigo Sakato health center, SOPs for cerumen props, and SOPs for ear hygiene are expected to improve ear hygiene problems in the community.

Abstract

Carrying a backpack that is excessively heavy can lead to negative effects, including pain in the shoulders, back, and waist. Additionally, it can cause postural changes due to alterations in the shape of the vertebrae. The goal of this Community Service Project (CSP) was to educate students at SMA 2 Padang about the proper use of backpacks, the appropriate weight for backpacks, and the negative effects of carrying overly heavy backpacks on the vertebrae. The method of CSP employed a pre-test and post-test method to measure knowledge retention. Throughout the activity, students received education and vertebral examinations. The key indicators for the CSP were the level of understanding gained regarding backpacks and the effects of excessive weight on vertebral health. The results of CSP indicated a significant increase in knowledge among the students at SMA 2 Padang, with all participants achieving perfect scores of 100 on the post-test. The vertebral examinations did not show any abnormalities, such as kyphosis or scoliosis. The conclusion of CSP successfully enhanced students' understanding of backpack weight and the potential negative impacts of carrying excessive weight on the vertebrae.
