Abstract

Strong current in welding is something that has always been a problem in the welding process. High currents can cause penetration of the welded material, whereas low currents can cause shallow penetration. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of current on the tensile and bending strength of V seam welded joints using SMAW welding with E6013 electrodes on low carbon steel welding. The research method used is to make a seam on a steel plate with an angle of 60 degrees and then weld it with a different current. The current used is 70, 90, 110 amperes with an electrode diameter of 2.6 mm. The samples that have been welded are then formed into tensile and bending test specimens. The results showed that the highest average tensile stress was 518.310 MPa at a welding current of 110 amperes. The highest average tensile strain is 34.00% at a welding current of 70 amperes. The highest average elastic modulus is 0.01864 GPa at a welding current of 110 amperes. For bending testing at 70 amperes, the fb1 specimen has cracks in the weld metal area with a crack length of 1.00 mm and the fb2 specimen has 0.50 mm cracks, while the 90 amperes fb1 specimen has 1.00 mm cracks, and fb2 specimens have 0.50mm crack. Current 110 amperes fb1 specimen has a crack of 4.70 mm, and fb2 specimen has a crack of 3.00 mm. From the results of the study, a good welding current for a plate with a thickness of 7.5 mm with an E6013 electrode with a diameter of 2.6 mm is at a current of 90 amperes.

Abstract

Utilization of waste or garbage in Indonesia continues to be carried out in line with the increasing number of which is used as a filler material in making composites. This study aims to determine the effect of composite material composition made from fly ash coal, rice husk charcoal and HDPE plastic on compressive strength, water absorption and density of the material. This research was conducted as an experimental study that had been carried out by means of laboratory tests. The composition used was 30%: 5%: 65%, 25%: 10%: 65%, 20%: 15%: 65%. Specimens were made to ASTM D695 standards for press testing. The results of this study indicate that the value of the compressive strength obtained at the composition of 30%: 5%: 65% is equal to 1.96 N / mm2, the value of water absorption in the largest composite material is at the composition of 20%: 15%: 65%, which is equal to 2,0283%, as well as for the density value of the largest composite material at the composition of 30%: 5%: 65% which is equal to 1.4692 g / cm3.Keywords: Fly ash coal, rice husk charcoal, HDPE Plastic, press, water absorption, density

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find the tensile strength of fiberglass composite against the orientation of the lamina weaving angle. In this research composite making uses a hand lay-up method, with a fiber-matrix fraction of 30 % : 70 %. Specimen were made with ASTM D 638-01 tensile test standar. The result showed that the highes tensile test specimen value with the orientation of the weaving lamina angel is 0o/90o, 0o/90o, 0o/90o, 0o/90o, 0o/90o, 0o/90o, 0o/90o, 0o/90o which is 135,568 N/mm2. While the lowest tensile test specimen value are in the orientation of the weaving angles of lamina 0o/90o, 15o/105o, 30o/120o, -15o/-105o, -15o/-105o, 30o/120o, 15o/105o, 0o/90o, with voltage values tensile strength of 106,447 N/mm2. Keywors: Composite, fiberglass, angle orientation, tensile trength.

Abstract

Energy is something abstract that is difficult to prove but can be felt and has the ability to do work (energy is the capability for doing work). The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of Teak Leaves and Cashew Leaves Briquettes with varied compositions. The research method used is to analyze the characteristics of the flame temperature and compressive strength. Characteristic analysis of flame temperature and compressive strength was carried out with 3 variations of composition composition (70 teak leaves: 20 guava leaves: 10 clay, 50 teak leaves: 40 guava leaves: 10 clay, 20 teak leaves: 70 guava leaves: 10 clay) . From the results obtained, briquettes with a composition of 70% cashew leaves and 20% teak leaves with 10% clay adhesive are a good composition compared to other compositions with a temperature value of 233oC and a compressive strength value of 0.06272 N/mm2.Keywords: Briquettes, teak leaves, and cashew leaves

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the addition of nickel slag and crushed plastic into the paving block on the compressive strength. Paving blocks were made by conventional methods. Samples were made and tested according to SNI 03-0691-1996 standards. After molded, the paving blocks were dried within 28 days. After that, the materials were placed on a compression test device to determine the compressive strength. The results of the compression test showed that the maximum compressive strength value was owned by sample B with a value of 210.8 kg/cm2 with a volume composition of 25% cement, 5% coarse aggregate, 30% nickel slag, 5% fine aggregate, and 35% crushed plastic. The minimum compressive strength was found in sample A with a value of 129.17 kg/cm2 with a mixture composition of 25% cement, 25% coarse aggregate and 50% fine aggregate. From this study, it was found that there was an increase in the compressive strength of the paving block after the addition of chopped plastic and nickel slag.Keywords: paving block, slag nickel, plastic chopping, compressive strength

Abstract

Has conducted research on the analysis of the influence of cooling media variations on the hardness and tensile strength of welded joints using circular swing patterns on medium carbon steel. This study aims to determine the effect of cooling media variations on hardness and tensile test using circular swing patterns on medium carbon steel. The method used in this study is that steel is given heat treatment (welding) using 100 amperes, which are then subjected to rapid cooling with oil, air, and water-cooling media. After the welding process and the formation of specimens, tensile testing and hardness testing are done using the Vickers (HVN) method. The results of this study are: (1) the tensile strength welding results obtained on oil cooling media with a value 337.3956 MPa, strain 12.08333 %, elastic modulus 27.948202 MPa, air conditioning media with a voltage value of tensile 470.11347 MPa, strain 13.155557 %, elastic modulus 53.460519 MPa, water cooling media obtained tensile stress  548.165333 MPa, strain 36.6666667 % elastic modulus 15.0436717. (2) The level of violence in both the weld area and the HAZ area did not show a significant difference. The highest hardness is in water cooling where the hardness of 192.35 in the weld area is obtained 194.61 HVN hardness obtained. The lowest hardness occurred in air cooling where 168.65 hardness was obtained in the weld area while for the HAZ area 153.79 HVN hardness was obtained.Keywords: SMAW, circular swing pattern, hardness test, tensile test

Abstract

PLTU Moramo is one of the Independent Power Producers (IPP) that supplies electricity to PT PLN. PLTU Moramo make use of turbine-generator with an installed capacity of 2x50 MW Steam Turbine - Full Condensing. PLTU Moramo Unit 1 experienced an increase in the condenser vacuum value after routine maintenance, the increase in the vacuum value affected to the heat rate and efficiency of the steam turbine cycle. The research conducted is to analyzes the effect of changes in the value of the condenser vacuum on the heat rate and efficiency of the steam turbine cycle by using a thermodynamic analysis approach and energy input-output methods. Data analysis uses actual parameters taken from the Distributed Control System (DCS) during normal operation. The results obtained in this study indicate that an increase in the condenser vacuum value affects the heat rate and efficiency of the steam turbine cycle, an increase in the vacuum value of -1 kPa results in a decrease in the average turbine heat rate of 57,673 kJ/kWh for a load of 40 MW Net and 93,575 kJ/ kWh for 50 MW Net load. Meanwhile, the average value of the steam turbine cycle efficiency increased by 0.37% for a load of 40 MW Net and 2.19% for 50 MW Net. Keywords: heat rate, efficiency, PLTU, vacuum

Abstract

One type of prime movers that is widely used is a heat engine, a machine that uses thermal energy to do mechanical work. This study aims to determine how much achievement is produced by the MAK 8M453C Diesel engine.  In this study the authors used a thermometer, compression tester and multimeter to measure and calculate the data taken in the study. Calculation results obtained Ni indicated power generated is 3489.9 hp, Ne Effective Power of 31025 hp, while the engine power according to engine data is 3804.3 hp or 2800 Kw. From these figures, power decreased slightly by 8.2 %. This is caused by pressure loss of spraying and wear and tear on some parts of the engine. Effective fuel consumption of 0.12 kg/hp-hr and effective thermal efficiency of 52.26 %.  Keywords: Power of indication, effective power, efficiency.
