Abstract

Seaweed (E. cottonii) is a type of seaweed from the Rhodophyta class which has anti-diabetic activity so that it can control diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of E. cottonii extract on body weight and blood sugar levels in mice (Mus musculus) type 1 diabetes mellitus. This study used a completely randomized factorial design with five treatments and three replications. 20 mice were divided into 5 groups: normal mice (KN), negative control (K-), positive control (K+), E. cottonii extract dose of 0.4 ml/g BW (P1) and E. cottonii extract dose of 0 .7 ml/gBB (P2). The extraction of E. cottonii used the maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent. All groups of mice were induced with 0.3 ml of STZ for 3 consecutive days. After an increase in blood glucose levels, the mice in the K(+) group were given metformin at a dose of 0.4 ml, P1 was given E. cottonii ethanol extract at a dose of 0.4 ml/g BW and P2 at a dose of 0.7 ml/g BW. Extract administration was carried out for 7 days. The results showed that E. cottonii extract had an effect on increasing body weight and decreasing blood sugar levels in type 1 diabetes mellitus mice. The increase in body weight and decrease in blood sugar levels was in line with the high doses given.

Abstract

Marsupial and monotreme mammals very important in vertebrate phylogeny studies between reptile-mammal divergence 310 million years ago (mya) and the eutherian (placental) mammal radiation 105 mya. They have many features including their distinctive chromosomes, which in marsupials are typically very large and well conserved between species. Monotreme genomes are divided into several large chromosomes and many smaller chromosomes, with a complicated sex chromosome models that forms a translocation chain in male meiosis. In Macropus genera members, telomeres have been shown to be involved in the fusion and inversion of chromosomes, but for Kangaroo, the telomere sequence remains consistent and does not change during the chromosomal fusion event, but this is not the case in mice. The ancestor of marsupials (plesiomorphic), has a karyotype of 2n=14, but for kangaroos and wallabies have a karyotype of 2n=22, based on fews curently research, we asserted that this karyotype is derived from the karyotype of marsupial ancestors who have a karyotype of 2n=14. Based on molecular genetic studies have shown that W. bicolor (swamp wallaby) is more appropriately grouped into the Macropus genera, not as a “sister” of Macropus genera. In addition Macropus and W. bicolor there has been a division of chromosomes due to chromosome fusion, but W. bicolor has fewer chromosomes than other members of Macropodidae, i.e (2n=10 for females, and 2n=11 for males).

Abstract

The Hii Forest of Haruku Village is where Eulipoa wallacei lays eggs. The Hii Forest is overgrown with tree vegetation that Eulipoa wallacei uses as a perch, a place to forage for food and to protect itself from predators. This study aimed to determine the diversity and dominance of tree vegetation in the habitat of Eulipoa wallacei in the forest. The method used in this study is the quadratic method by placing sample plots randomly based on public information about the location of Eulipoa wallacei. The results showed 29 plant species belonging to 2 classes, 13 orders, and 22 families. The Diversity Index and Dominance Index of tree vegetation in the habitat of Eulipoa wallacei in Hii Forest showed diversity in the medium category and dominance in the low category. Eulipoa wallacei's habitat is used for perching, foraging, and protecting itself from predators.

Abstract

Household organic waste such as banana and pineapple peels are often not optimally utilized, even though they contain nutrients that are good for plants. This community service activity aims to provide counseling and training on making environmentally friendly liquid fertilizer by utilizing banana and pineapple peel waste using EM4 activator to the community in Kamal Village, West Seram Regency (SBB), Maluku Province. Through a participatory approach, this activity involves the community directly in the process of making liquid fertilizer, starting from the preparation of ingredients, fermentation, to application to plants through foliar spraying and direct watering to the planting media with a measured dose (50-100 ml of liquid fertilizer / 1 liter of water) every 7 days. This activity was carried out in 2 stages including the extension and training stages, as well as the monitoring and evaluation stages. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge and skills in managing organic waste into useful and environmentally friendly products. With this activity, it is hoped that the community can apply this simple technology independently to support sustainable agriculture and reduce environmental pollution

Abstract

Abstract

The root of Mimosa pudica L. contains mimosine, a toxic alkaloid, as well as tannins that exhibit toxic properties, potentially disrupting pancreatic function. Exposure to sufficiently high concentrations of toxic compounds can impair cellular metabolism, leading to irreversible damage. One of the cellular changes induced by cytotoxic compounds is the reduction in the size of pancreatic Langerhans islets. This study aimed to investigate the effects of ethanol extract of Mimosa pudica roots on the diameter of Langerhans islets and β-cell damage in the pancreas of mice. Twelve mice were randomly divided into four groups, each consisting of three animals. Group I served as a control and did not receive the extract, whereas Groups II, III, and IV were administered root extract at doses of 10 mg/g BW, 100 mg/g BW, and 1000 mg/g BW, respectively, for 14 consecutive days. The results demonstrated that administration of ethanol extract of Mimosa pudica roots reduced the diameter of pancreatic Langerhans islets in a dose-dependent manner, with higher doses causing more severe β-cell damage. These findings highlight the need for caution in the use of Mimosa pudica roots as traditional medicine or dietary supplements.
