Abstract

This research aims to provide a more detailed picture regarding the causes of multicultural conflict, the positive and negative impacts of religion in the multicultural concept and the forms of synergy between religion and multicultural society in Indonesia. This research will use the literature study method. The collected data will be analyzed using a literature review to identify the main themes and da'wah writing strategies used by Islamic boarding schools in their campaigns. The research results found that multicultural conflict can occur if segmentation arises into groups in society. Religion in multicultural societies can be used in negative and positive ways. Apart from that, the synergy of religion and multicultural society can be realized by reinterpreting orthodox religious doctrines, dialogue and using religion as a mediation suggestion for cultural differences and conflict resolution in society

Abstract

Quranic education has long been a deeply ingrained tradition in Gorontalo City, often referred to as the "Veranda of Madinah." The enactment of Local Regulation Number 6 of 2012 on the Mandatory Reading and Writing of the Al-Quran in Gorontalo City can be seen as a form of state accommodation of this local wisdom. This study examines the background, legalization process, and implementation of Local Regulation Number 6 of 2012 among the people of Gorontalo City. Employing a qualitative descriptive research method based on George C. Edward's theory, the study finds that the implementation of Local Regulation Number 6 of 2012 was only active and had programs for two years during the leadership of Adhan Dambea. After Adhan Dambea's term ended, no further programs were implemented by the government related to the Local Regulation. However, Quranic education remains widespread in Gorontalo City. In reality, the people of Gorontalo provide Quranic education not based on their knowledge of Local Regulation Number 6 of 2012, but rather out of their own self-awareness as Muslims, a tradition deeply embedded in their society.

Abstract

The Sufistic approach in the study of religion is a method that seeks to explore the mystical and esoteric dimensions within various religious traditions, including Islam. This article highlights the use of the Sufistic approach by scholars, both within and outside the Islamic tradition, to understand the phenomenon of Sufism and mystical practices in Muslim communities. This study shows that the Sufistic approach is not only relevant for understanding individual morality and spirituality but also provides a broader perspective on interfaith dialogue and pluralism. Various methods such as phenomenology, historical, and even interreligious approaches are employed in Sufistic studies. Thus, this approach offers a deeper understanding of subjective and symbolic spiritual experiences. However, the study also emphasizes that understanding Sufism requires mastery of complex Sufistic terminology and concepts. This article concludes that, amidst the challenges of modernity and extremism, the Sufistic approach in religious studies remains relevant as an effort to enrich the understanding of religiosity and tolerance among religious communities.

Abstract

Da'wah is basically a social activity that allows people to meet with various social backgrounds in it. Because of its nature as a social activity, plurality becomes a necessity in da'wah. Nevertheless, pluralism as a reality sometimes becomes a problem in society. This article aims to describe the problem between da'wah and pluralism with the subject of the meaning of pluralism, its reality in the history of Islamic da'wah, and the attitude that must be developed in responding to it. The study showed that pluralism is generally interpreted as diversity in various aspects of life, including religion, which is believed to originate from one source even though this causes controversy. Historically Islam recognized the reality of religious pluralism. This fact shows that in Islam differences of belief are not obstacles to managing social life together as a form of acceptance of religious pluralism. Some attitudes that must be developed to be able to accept the reality of religious pluralism in daily life include interfaith dialogue, conducting "passing over" and "coming back" activities, or making efforts to increase multiculturalism insight to all elements of society. All of this can be done through the Islamic da’wah, with its various approaches, has become a massive Islamic religious social movement and is able to reach all aspects of Islamic society life.

Abstract

This study explores community responses to the use of loudspeakers during the Dikili tradition in Tomulabutao, Gorontalo, Indonesia. Dikili, an overnight religious ritual, often features amplified chants and hymns as part of the local soundscape and cultural identity. While these sounds are familiar and accepted by indigenous Gorontalo residents, they have sparked varied responses from non-local newcomers living in mixed housing areas. Using a qualitative approach, the study draws on in-depth interviews with residents to gain an understanding of their perceptions of religious sound in shared spaces. Findings reveal that while many non-Gorontalo residents gradually acclimate to the broadcasts, concerns persist regarding excessive volume. In response, mosque management implemented volume adjustments to strike a balance between cultural expression and residential comfort. The study emphasizes the importance of dialogue and negotiated practices in fostering social harmony within diverse, multicultural communities.

Abstract

This article discusses the transformation of dakwah (Islamic preaching) from conventional methods to digital, known as cyberdakwah, in the modern era. Digital dakwah has become a global phenomenon by leveraging internet technology, allowing Islamic messages to be spread more widely and efficiently. Society now has easier access to religious information through social media and search engines like Google, which has replaced the traditional role of scholars in providing religious knowledge. This phenomenon leads to a paradigm shift in acquiring dakwah knowledge, moving from religious scholars and institutions to digital platforms. The article examines the impact of this shift, including the incommensurability between knowledge from scholars and Google, as well as the sudden change in the patterns of seeking religious information. While cyberdakwah holds great potential, challenges arise regarding the superficiality of messages and the lack of personal connection between the preacher and the audience. Therefore, integrating digital and conventional dakwah is seen as essential to ensure that dakwah messages are received more deeply and responsibly.

Abstract

This study specifically focuses on elaborating on the atsar (impact) of the da'wah activities conducted by the Tablighi Jamaat in the South Coast region of Gorontalo City. Furthermore, based on the findings, good da'wah practices in coastal areas will be identified. The scope of da'wah atsar in this context refers to how the mad'u (audience of da'wah) responds to the Tablighi Jamaat's da'wah efforts in the region. These responses encompass cognitive, affective, and behavioural aspects. The objective of this study is to identify the atsar and good da'wah practices applicable to coastal areas. Accordingly, this research aims to: (1) Describe the da'wah activities of the Tablighi Jamaat in the South Coast region of Gorontalo City, and (2) Conduct a deeper analysis of the da'wah footprint of the Tablighi Jamaat in the region. The findings of this study indicate that: First, the da'wah method employed by the Tablighi Jamaat follows the  khuruj method, which involves venturing out in the path of Allah. This process begins with fostering social connections (silaturahmi), reciting ta'lim , and subsequently engaging in jaula practices. This approach has been implemented along the southern coast of Gorontalo City for the past 12 years. Second, the atsar of the Tablighi Jamaat's da'wah efforts in the South Coast region is significant and yields optimal results. This is evidenced by observable transformations in the community’s daily life, such as the increased observance of prayer, enhanced religious knowledge, strengthened social ties, and active participation in the commemoration of Islamic holidays.
