Abstract

Abstract

Pre-service teachers learn a lot about educational practice, especially regarding formative assessment, through noticing. For this reason, pre-service teachers’ noticing ability determines the learning process regarding formative assessment. Thus, understanding and analyzing pre-service teachers’ noticing skills is very important. This research is a descriptive qualitative research which aims to analyze the observations of pre-service teachers regarding formative assessment using a video. Data collection was carried out using video task analysis regarding formative assessment. This study involved 69 pre-service elementary teachers. The results of the task analysis were coded with the theoretical coding method. The results of the coding were then analyzed descriptively. The focus of noticing for pre-service elementary teachers is the greatest (71%) on the questioning loop aspect, while other aspects are less than 50% of the participants. No one  pre-service elementary teachers observes the five aspects of formative assessment. For the quality of noticing an average of 2.25-2.85 or between the descriptive level and validation. The characteristics of the focus of pre-service elementary teachers’ noticing regarding formative assessment tend to focus on the questioning aspect and are not comprehensive. Most of the noticing quality of pre-service elementary teachers regarding formative assessment is still at the descriptive and validation level.

Abstract

The purpose of education is to develop the potential of students to become human beings who believe and fear God Almighty, have noble character, are healthy, knowledgeable, capable, creative, independent, and become democratic and responsible citizens. But in practice, much education separates science and faith in God. Christian education allows students to get to know God more and develops the potential of each student according to God's truth and purpose. Mathematics learning should be a tool to bring students to see and admire God as the great Creator. Investigation and discovery in learning mathematics should acknowledge some of God's attributes and allow students to admire the beauty of mathematics and to praise God.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Tujuan pendidikan adalah untuk mengembangkan potensi peserta didik agar menjadi manusia yang beriman dan bertakwa kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa, berakhlak mulia, sehat, berilmu, cakap, kreatif, mandiri, dan menjadi warga negara yang demokratis serta bertanggung jawab.

Abstract

Students' conceptual understanding in Indonesia is still low. In the school that the author observed, students in grade 8 have an average total conceptual understanding of 48% with sufficient criteria. The solution to overcome this problem is by implementing RME. The purpose of writing this paper is to describe the application of RME in helping students understand concepts using descpritive qualitative research methods.  The results of this study indicate that RME is applied in online learning in the following steps: first, providing and explaining contextual problems to be solved by students; second, students solve contextual problems for the development of mathematical models in their own way; third, discuss and compare any problem solving given by students; fourth, students conclude and summarize the concept of the topic being studied. The implementation of RME in online learning is carried out using a flipped classroom approach. In this reverse class approach, horizontal mathematics is done asynchronously while vertical mathematics is synchronous. Students' understanding of concepts after the implementation of RME has increased. In RME knowledge is acquired through horizontal and vertical mathematics, while interactivity in this approach helps students understand concepts.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Pemahaman konsep siswa di Indonesia tergolong masih rendah.

Abstract

Students often experience difficulties and errors in solving quadratic inequality problems. These difficulties and errors are not only caused by students’ ignorance or misconceptions, but also caused by epistemological obstacles. This study aimed to determine the epistemological obstacles faced by the junior high school students in quadratic inequality. This research was a qualitative research that involved 105 ninth-grade students at one of the junior high schools in Bandung, Indonesia. The data were collected through open-ended tasks and task-based interviews. The data were analyzed using the inductive coding process to classify students’ errors.  The descriptive analysis was carried out to reveal students’ ways of understanding and ways of thinking behind each error to be compared with historical analysis. Based on the description of ways of understanding and ways of thinking and comparison with this historical phenomenon, the epistemological obstacles had be confirmed. The results showed that there were epistemological obstacles in quadratic inequalities. The epistemological obstacles consisted of students' quadratic equation knowledge acts and students' arithmetic knowledge acts. However, no epistemological obstacles were found in the development history of quadratic inequality. Students' epistemological obstacles were parallel to the historical phenomena of quadratic inequality.

Abstract

The perseverance, characteristics, and competencies of teachers can enhance the professional quality, motivation, and attitude of mathematics teachers. Recognizing the significance of professional development and personal growth for elementary school mathematics teachers, a Professional Learning Community (PLC) was implemented. This study aims to examine the impact of online PLC on teachers' self-efficacy in teaching mathematics. The research method used was mixed methods, quantitative and qualitative research. Data was collected by survey and interviews with 16 6th-grade mathematics teachers at Lentera Harapan School (SLH) in Indonesia. The questionnaire data were analysed by the Wilcoxon test, and the interview results were analysed qualitatively. The results find that after being given online PLC, there was a significant increase in teacher self-efficacy in teaching mathematics. Teachers respond positively to this activity because they can collaborate with other teachers from various elementary schools and support each other in their professional development. Teachers enjoyed the session of sharing experiences in overcoming learning difficulties faced by students in class. Thus, teachers' self-efficacy can be strengthened by ongoing online PLC activities that help teachers develop as professionals and provide optimal support for students' learning. By continuing to enhance teachers' self-efficacy, they may provide the best service for students and help students succeed in learning.     Keywords: self-efficacy, professional learning communities, primary mathematics teachers.
