Abstract

Eucalyptus spp. is one of the most widely planted genera for pulp and paper industrial forests (Hutan Tanaman Industri/HTI) in the world, specifically in Indonesia, due to its productivity and wood properties. The growth and productivity of eucalypts in North Sumatra depend on the type of soil and the clone used. The purpose of this study was to look at the macronutrient content in different soil types and to evaluate the macronutrient content in plant biomass with different clones to keep the nutrient conditions in the soil maintained. This research was conducted at 3 of the eucalyptus plantation sector in North Sumatera with hybrids of eucalyptus clones that were 48 months old. Height, diameter breast height (DBH), and survival data were taken. Wood, leaf, bark, and soil samples were taken for nutrient analysis in the laboratory. The results showed that there were differences in soil macronutrients (N, P, K, Mg, and Ca) among the three types of soil. The average growth also showed a significant difference in growth in each soil order. There were differences in nutrients in plant biomass for the clones tested, and there were differences in nutrients in each part of the plant biomass. Wood and bark that were taken from the tree while harvesting had a greater amount than the biomass that stays in the field (leaf and branch). The different fertilization regimes in the research area are one way to increase the productivity of eucalyptus plants in the field

Abstract

Abstract

Boron is a micro nutrient that plays a role in strengthening cell walls, increase growth and production of shallot optimally. Benzyl amino purine (BAP) is a synthetic cytokinin that responds to plant growth and development, regulates flowering, and stimulates cell division of shallot. This research aims to identify the production and content of boron in shallots. The study was conducted in the lowlands and a factorial randomized block design was used. Boron (0, 2, 4, and 6 kg boric acid/ha) was used as the first factor and BAP (0, 100, and 200 ppm) was used as the second factor. The research used Bima Brebes as shallot variety. The research result showed that boron application of 2 kg boric acid/ha increased the number of tillers, fresh weight of shallot bulb and flavonoid content. Application of 200 ppm of BAP increased significantly the number of tiller. In view of aftereffects of the orthogonal polynomial and regression tests, it was found that the optimum Boron dose 2.695 kg of boric acid/ha produced the highest dry weight of shallot 23.661 g, the dry weight of shallot bulbs increased by 14.23% compared to without Boron application.

Abstract

Climate change contributes to greater drought severity, leading to the decline of crop production. This study aims to evaluate the role of silica in onion production under water-deficient conditions.  The research was conducted at the Technical Implementation Unit Benih Induk Palawija in Tanjung Selamat, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra Province. Randomized Block Design with factorial arrangement was employed in this study, comprising 4 different doses of silica (0, 0.48, 0.96 and 1.44 g per plant) at 3 different levels of drought (40, 60 and 80% water holding capacity (WHC)).  The results showed that silica did not give significant results on vegetative growth and its yield, except for its root dry weight and plant wet weight. The best plant development was demonstrated by onions exposed to 80% WHC, followed by plants with 60% and 40% WHC.  The application of silica 0.48 g on onions treated with 60% WHC has a greater increase in the production of onion bulbs.
