Abstract

Rattan as an alternative material in product, has a significant resource for personal use and commercial activities in Indonesia, particularly in West Sumatra. Initially, its trade focused on raw materials and semi-finished products, but it later evolved into the production and distribution of finished rattan goods, managed primarily by wholesalers in the region. Beyond rattan processing, finished rattan products have been extensively marketed. In recent years, rattan's application has expanded into the realm of interior design, finding use in furniture and interior accessories. Alongside natural rattan, synthetic rattan has emerged as an alternative material, created using synthetic base materials to serve as substitutes. This innovation originated from efforts by the government and artisans to address material shortages while promoting environmental sustainability. Synthetic rattan offers versatility in texture, color, and shape, making it easy to combine with other materials such as aluminum and iron. Despite the traditional perception of rattan furniture, particularly chairs, as outdated, synthetic rattan furniture has gained popularity due to its adaptability to modern design trends. Craftsmen have developed synthetic rattan chairs in various styles, catering to evolving tastes and preferences. These products are increasingly utilized to meet the high demand for diverse designs in the interior design industry. To better understand this growing trend, qualitative research has been conducted to explore the expanding role of rattan—both natural and synthetic—in interior design and its implications for production and trade.

Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive review of the development of molded inductor technology, emphasizing its advantages over conventional inductors. Molded inductors have emerged as a critical component in modern electronic systems due to their superior performance in high-temperature environments, high power density, compact design, and enhanced mechanical integrity. These benefits are largely attributed to the unique construction process, in which the magnetic core is molded directly around the wire and lead frame, eliminating the need for pre-fabricated cores. Such an approach results in improved structural strength and electrical efficiency. In addition to exploring the technological superiority of molded inductors, the paper examines their current applications across various industries. These include the automotive sector, power electronics, industrial automation, and consumer devices, where the demand for miniaturized yet powerful and reliable components continues to grow. The discussion then shifts to the current manufacturing processes employed in producing molded inductors. This includes automated coil winding, precision molding using magnetic powder and resin mixtures, and post-molding treatments such as heat curing and surface finishing. the paper concludes with practical recommendations for manufacturers. These include adopting automated production lines, implementing stringent quality control and testing protocols. Such strategies are essential for staying competitive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape and meeting the rising expectations for performance, reliability, and sustainability in electronic components.

Abstract

The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in agarwood oil production in Lubuk Begalung, Padang, West Sumatra, represent a type of natural resource-based business that involves a relatively high level of occupational risk. These risks primarily arise during the extraction and processing stages of agarwood, which involve high-temperature operations, pressurized processing equipment, and potential exposure to chemical substances. Preliminary observations conducted by the community service team revealed that business owners lack sufficient understanding and implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) principles. This condition poses a significant threat of workplace accidents, reduces productivity, and may disrupt the continuity of business operations. To address this issue, the community engagement team implemented a structured OHS program comprising three key components: the introduction and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), the enforcement of safe work procedures, and the cultivation of a healthy and safe workplace culture. This initiative was designed using a participatory approach to ensure that it would be easily understood and adopted by MSME stakeholders. The results of the program indicate a marked increase in awareness and adherence among business operators regarding personal protection and workplace safety during operational activities. Through this implementation, it is expected that a safer, more comfortable, and productive work environment will be established, thereby supporting the sustainability of the agarwood oil production business.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of building shape on seismic performance in earthquake-prone areas such as Padang City. Using the Indonesian seismic standard SNI 1726:2019, three multi-story reinforced concrete buildings were modeled: a square (regular), a rectangular (regular), and an irregular plan. The analysis focused on internal forces, base shear, displacement, and drift ratio to evaluate differences in structural response. Results show that buildings with horizontal irregularities experience higher internal forces and displacements. The bending moments in irregular buildings are 4.84% higher than in rectangular buildings and 10.07% higher than in square buildings. Base shear is 1.53% and 3.04% higher, respectively. The maximum displacement differences reach 0.93 m (X direction) and 0.54 mm (Y direction). The average drift ratio in the X direction is about 0.56% for all models, while square-shaped buildings show smaller Y-direction drift. These findings highlight that plan irregularities significantly influence seismic performance, providing insights for safer structural design in seismic regions.

Abstract

This investigation involved micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMES) engaged in home furniture manufacturing services. The conventional method used by these craftsmen usually uses tools that are easily available around us, using a woven or plaited system. Commonly used materials include Manau, bamboo, ropes and nails. This work is also said to pose a risk, because rattan, if it has been scraped or thinned to make it flexible, can endanger the craftsman. However, there are complaints from craftsmen who say that nowadays not many people want to use furniture made from handicrafts or from natural materials. People who have used a lot of home furniture made from various materials such as plastic, glass and others. In making this craft, a heating system is also used to heat the Manau with fire so that it can be easily bent to form parts of the craft framework.
