Abstract

Self-esteem is an important aspect of mental health that reflects how individuals value and appreciate themselves. Various factors such as social environment, academic demands, and lifestyle behaviors like smoking can influence self-esteem levels. Among nursing students, smoking behavior is considered contradictory to the values of the nursing profession, which emphasizes health promotion. This study aimed to determine the relationship between smoking behavior and self-esteem among students of the Faculty of Nursing, Sultan Agung Islamic University. This study employed a quantitative method with a correlational design and a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 84 male students of the Faculty of Nursing, selected using stratified purposive sampling. Data were collected using a smoking behavior questionnaire and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. The findings indicated that most students were non-smokers and had a moderate level of self-esteem. The Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between smoking behavior and self-esteem (p < 0.05), where students who smoked tended to have lower self-esteem than non-smokers. There is a significant relationship between smoking behavior and self-esteem among students of the Faculty of Nursing, Sultan Agung Islamic University.

Abstract

Providing complementary foods (MP-ASI) is an important stage in the growth and development of infants after 6 months of age. However, many mothers still provide MP-ASI too early, which can have a negative impact on the baby's health. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and the provision of MP-ASI to infants aged 6–12 months in Wringinjajar Village, Demak Regency. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach. The total sampling technique used was 80 respondents. Data collection used a questionnaire, which was then analyzed using the chi-square test. The results of this study showed that 70 (87,5%)  respondents received good family support when providing complementary feeding, and 10 (12,5%). respondents received less family support when providing complementary feeding. The chi-square test results obtained a ρ value of 0.001. There is a significant relationship between family support and the provision of complementary feeding to babies aged 6-12 months.

Abstract

Adolescents are a vulnerable age group when it comes to mental health disorders, one of which is depression. Depression in adolescents can be influenced by various factors, one of which is social support. Good social support from family, friends, and the surrounding environment plays an important role in maintaining the emotional stability of adolescents so that they can avoid depression. This research method is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 108 student respondents using total sampling technique. Data collection was conducted using a social support questionnaire and a depression level questionnaire (Hamilton Depression Rating Scale), which were then analyzed using Spearman's rank correlation test. The results showed that most respondents were 17 years old and received good social support. The depression level was in the normal category for 106 respondents. The Spearman Rank test results showed a p-value of 0.006 (p<0.05). The conclusion is that there is a significant relationship between social support and depression levels among adolescents at SMA Negeri 2 Semarang. The better the social support received, the lower the depression levels experienced by adolescents.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the role of peer support in smoking cessation motivation among adolescents at MTs Al Hamidiyyah WringinJajar. A quantitative empirical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in August 2025. The population consisted of all ninth-grade students who smoked, totaling 55 respondents, and total sampling was applied. Peer support was measured using a 20-item questionnaire, while motivation to quit smoking was assessed using the Richmond Test. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis, with Somers’ d test applied at a significance level of α = 0.05. The findings showed that most respondents had moderate peer support and moderate motivation to quit smoking. Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between peer support and smoking cessation motivation, indicating that higher levels of peer support were associated with stronger motivation to quit smoking. These results highlight the importance of social influences in shaping adolescents’ health-related motivation. Strengthening positive peer support within the school environment may serve as an effective strategy to enhance smoking cessation motivation among adolescents and support healthier behavioral change.

Abstract

Anemia remains a major public health concern among adolescent girls and may adversely affect physical growth, learning concentration, and future reproductive health. In Indonesia, one of the primary preventive strategies is the school-based iron tablet supplementation program, whose effectiveness is closely related to adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes toward anemia prevention. This study examined the relationship between knowledge and attitudes and anemia prevention efforts among adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 20 Semarang. A quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was applied, involving 130 adolescent girls selected through total sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires measuring knowledge, attitudes, and anemia prevention efforts and were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The findings demonstrated a significant relationship between knowledge and anemia prevention efforts (p = 0.009) as well as between attitudes and anemia prevention efforts (p = 0.001). Most respondents exhibited good knowledge levels (75.4%) and moderate attitudes (56.9%), while anemia prevention efforts were predominantly categorized as moderate (62.3%). These results indicate that adequate knowledge and positive attitudes contribute substantially to the adoption of anemia prevention behaviors, emphasizing the importance of continuous health education, school-based interventions, and supportive environments to enhance preventive practices among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin action. Blood glucose control is influenced by various factors, one of which is dietary patterns. Diets that do not adhere to balanced nutrition principles can lead to poor glycemic control and increase the risk of complications. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 95 patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Sari Asih Karawaci Hospital in 2025, selected using purposive sampling techniques. Dietary pattern data were collected using a questionnaire, while blood glucose level data were obtained from medical examination results. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Contingency Coefficient test. The results showed that most respondents had good dietary patterns (58.9%), and blood glucose levels within the normal category (51.6%). Bivariate analysis using the Contingency Coefficient test indicated a p-value of 0.005, demonstrating a significant relationship between dietary patterns and blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. There is a significant relationship between dietary patterns and blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Proper dietary management is an important factor in controlling blood glucose levels and should be a primary focus in nursing care and health education for patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
