Abstract

Cream scrub is a body scrub that contains slightly harsh ingredients with cream-based ingredients. In this study, onion extract (Allium cepa L.) and chicken eggshell powder were used in order to determine which emulgator concentration (Span-Tween 80) could provide the best stability of cream scrub. Onion extract was made by maceration using methanol solvent to obtain liquid extract, afterward concentrated using vacuum rotary evaporator until a thick extract was obtained. There were 3 concentration variation of emulgator used for each 100 g of cream scrub formulation, namely 1% (F1), 2% (F2), and 3% (F3). Evaluation of cream scrub included organoleptic test, homogeneity test, dispersion test, emulsion type test and pH measurement. The results showed that all three cream scrub formulations were homogeneous and the cream scrub had M/A emulsion type. The results of dispersion test showed that F2 cream scrub had greater dispersibility than F1 and F3. Emulgator span-tween 80 with a concentration of 2% provided the best stability for cream scrub formulations.

Abstract

Betel leaf (Piper betle Linn) is a plant that is widely known by the people of Indonesia, contains phenolic compounds and their derivatives which reaches 30% in extracts and essential oils, and at a concentration of 100 ppm it can kill mosquito larvae based on insecticidal activity. This study aims to utilize betel leaf essential oil, which was obtained by steam distillation method in the form of a spray dosage form and to find out at what concentration the betel leaf essential oil can be used as an insect repellent. This research is a laboratory experiment, there are 3 formulas of mosquito repellent spray (F1, F2 and F3) with a concentration of 13%, 15%, and 17%. The tests carried out on the anti-mosquito spray preparation were organoleptic tests and tests the effectiveness of the preparations against ten adult mosquitoes. Anti-mosquito spray preparation with a concentration of 17% betel leaf essential oil which is more effective at repelling and killing mosquitoes. Further research can develop the use of betel leaf essential oil with variations in different concentrations, or in combination with other active ingredients as mosquito repellent

Abstract

Jamu (herbal medicine) is a traditional Indonesian medicine used to nourish, treat, and restore of health, as well as for beauty and fitness. A healthy Jamu is safe when consumed and free from chemicals (in Indonesia it’s called BKO). BKO is a medicinal chemical compound which is intentionally added in jamu (herbal medicine), which aims to increase the accelerate effects of Jamu or herbal medicine from the usual. The aims of this study are to extract, isolate, identify and elucidate the structure of the BKO of sildenafil and it’s derivatives in two herbal preparations circulating in the city of Banda Aceh. Extraction, isolation and identification of sildenafil BKO and its derivatives in jamu were done by using column chromatography (CC) and thin layer chromatography (TLC) meanwhile, the structure elucidation of sildenafil and it’s derivatives were done by Fourier-Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR) and liquid chromatography/mass spectroscopy (LC/MS/MS). The results of extraction, isolation and   identification with a solvent  ethyl acetate: methanol: ammonium hydroxide (25%) (100: 15: 1.5 v/v showed that two jamu circulating in Banda Aceh positively contained BKO sildenafil derivatives, namely thiosildenafil. The FT-IR analysis showed a strong absorption of thiocarbonyl (C=S) group at 1288-1242 cm-1, which is a typical uptake of the thiosildenafil compound. The Spectroscopy LC/MS/MS analysis using electron spray ionization (ESI-MS/MS) showed that the isolate have a similar spectra with thiosildenafil compound [TSLD+H]+ at 491 m/z and [TSLD+Na]+ at 513 m/z and other derivate of thiosildenafil, namely propoxyphenylhydroxylethylthiosildenafil [PHTSLD+H]+ at 533 m/z.

Abstract

The growth and development of early childhood need to be directed at laying the right foundations for growth and development into a whole human being. Knowledge about the form of drug preparation is very much needed so that using a drug can be effective safely, and efficiently and provide optimal effects. One type of drug preparation form that is often used in children (under 6 years of age) is a solid dosage form (powder). This preparation is intended if the child is unable to consume the drug in the form of a tablet, then it will be formulated in the form of a powdered drug preparation (puyer) so that the drug can be consumed properly and with the right indications, but because this drug dosage form has disadvantages, one of which is the bitter taste of the drug left around the mouth causing nausea and vomiting so that it is rarely liked. Introduction to the form of drug dosage needs to be introduced early to change the views of children who believe that drugs are something that is not pleasant to consume because it causes a bitter taste so they do not want to comply with the rules for using drugs. The conclusion of this community service activity provides information, education, and knowledge so that children are more familiar with the form of drug dosage supported by the screening of videos.
