Abstract

The Community Service Team of the Faculty of Engineering of Riau University together with students of the Riau University 2022 Kukerta team in Batu Belah Village, Kampar District provided assistance and demonstrations on how to make eco-enzyme solution from organic waste as a multifunctional solution. The eco-enzyme solution is a liquid resulting from the fermentation of organic waste in the form of fruit and vegetable waste which is added brown sugar and water in a ratio of 3:1:10 for 90 days. The purpose of this community service activity was to provide knowledge to the community and housewives group of Batu Belah Village, Kampar District to utilize organic waste into eco-enzyme solution and the benefits of eco-enzyme for various functions. In the implementation of community service activities, several stages were carried out including the stage of meeting with village officials and recording enthusiasts who wanted to take part in the training, then from the results of the participant data, the socialization stage and demonstration of training materials for making eco-enzyme solutions. The last stage to see the achievement of the training results is monitoring the level of understanding and enthusiasm of the participants. The results of the service showed that the Batu Belah Village community was very enthusiastic about participating in the socialization of making eco-enzyme from organic waste and was willing to practice it in their respective homes with an understanding level of 93.3%.

Abstract

Research on the use of plastic waste has been carried out in recent years, but the weak adhesivity between the surface of the plastic and cement make a drastic reduction in compressive strength in the cement-plastic mixture. To overcome this problem, treatment iscarried out on the plastic that has been chopped using 4% NaOCl and 5% NaOH to convert the polymeric hydrocarbon groups in the plastic into R-COOH which is more reactive to thecement material. In this research nine solid bricks are evaluated to study four ABS material composition using pra-treatment 4% NaOH and 5%NaOCl, and four without pra-treatment.Those four ABS material compositions total are 0; 0,2; 0,4; kg. The results showed substitution of 0.4 kg ABS with treatment succeeded in reducing the dry weight of the block by 21% and increasing the compressive strength of the block by 30%. This shows theresulting brick has better quality than the brick without substitution.Keywords : ABS substitution, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, solid brick, recycled plastic

Abstract

The need of dissolving pulp (DP) for rayon fiber production is increasing rapidly in recent years. Sustainable sources of DP raw materials and an effective manufacturing process are urgently required. This study aims to manufacture dissolving pulp (DP) with high brightness from Sansevieria-trifasciata (ST) fiber through the pre-hydrolysis, soda-Anthraquinone (Soda-AQ) cooking, and chlorine-free bleaching processes. The cellulose content, kappa number, pulp yield, and viscosity were analyzed. The results showed that the ?-cellulose content in ST raw material (39.43%) was relatively similar to the ?-cellulose content in Acacia pulping kraft (39.2%). Furthermore, the variations in pre-hydrolysis time affected the Kappa number, pulp yield, and viscosity. The DP obtained by the elementary chlorine-free (ECF) bleaching process had a viscosity of 9.3 cP, ?-cellulose content of 97.7%, and the brightness of 90.1% which was higher than the ISO standard of pulp brightness. The high DP brightness obtained from this unique combination of pre-hydrolysis, soda-AQ cooking and chlorine-free bleaching sequences has great potential for further development, as it can be used in viscose rayon staple fibers production.

Abstract

Acacia crassicarpa wood is widely used in Indonesia as a raw material for dissolving pulp (DP) by the kraft-cooking process. Given that Indonesia has a rich variety and abundance of cellulose-rich wood, it is deemed crucial to research alternative raw materials, such as Terminalia catappa wood. As an alternative source of raw material, Terminalia catappa possesses excellent adaptability to various environmental conditions and is easy to grow everywhere. The current research sought to produce DP using the mixtures of materials from these two plant species as raw materials by pre-hydrolysis, kraft-cooking, and Elementary Chlorine Free (ECF) bleaching. The DP produced had ISO brightness > 88%, alpha-cellulose content > 94%, viscosity > 6.2 cP, and pentosan content of 2.54%. The DP quality traits have met the SNI 938:2017 standards for rayon-grade pulp. Acacia Crassicarpa and Terminalia Catappa are the prospective wood mixture for producing high-quality dissolving pulp via the kraft-cooking process.

Abstract

The increase in writing paper waste is quite large in office and educational areas. Likewise in households and the surrounding community. Therefore, the utilization of used paper into seed paper is an interesting thing to be tested in village communities. This community service activity aims to educate the community regarding the utilization of used paper into seed paper. This used paper is soaked in water then printed with a paper printing tool, then given flower seeds. The paper that is ready to be printed is then dried. Seed paper that is no longer used is then planted. This activity is expected to be an alternative to empowering used paper in the Batu Belah Village community, Kampar District.

Abstract

Crude palm oil has a high free fatty acid over 2% is called CPO off-grade. This oil as an alternative energy sources are less costly in the held in one stage by a heterogeneous catalyst in order to produce a biodiesel or fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) over a ZnO catalyst. In this research, ZnO is made from zinc carbonate precipitant. Yield of conversion oil to FAME found approximately 96% under condition temperatures reaction 65 ±2°C, ratio moles of reactants 1:18 v/v, and the amount of catalyst 0.5%. ZnO catalyst is found as a potential in the biodiesel production. The catalytic activity of catalyst is determined by regenerating the spent catalyst, then it re-used four times in the transesterification reaction cycles. Results, the catalytic activity of ZnO catalyst till retain in the 4 th reaction cycle giving the yield of crude biodiesel in the range of 96 –75 %.

Abstract

Salah satu home industri yang terdapat di Gampong Mesjid Punteut adalah pabrik pembuatan tahu. Bahan baku pembuatan tahu adalah biji kedelai yang diolah sehingga menghasilkan produk utamanya adalah tahu. Selain menghasilkan tahu, pabrik juga menghasikan produk sampingan berupa limbah cair dan limbah padat. Selama ini limbah cair tidak dimanfaatkan, namun limbah padat dipergunakan sebagai makanan ternak. Untuk itu dalam program penerapan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi diberikan keterampilan berupa pelatihan untuk memanfaatkan limbah cair dari industri tahu menjadi produk baru yaitu Nata de Soya. Nata de Soya merupakan produk pangan yang bergizi tinggi terutama pada kandungan karbohidrat, protein dan serat kasar. Metode yang dilakukan pada pelatihan ini adalah ceramah dan demontrasi. Tujuan dilaksanakan program ini untuk menambahkan wawasan dan keterampilan masyarakat khusunya di Gampong Mesjid Punteut dalam mengolah limbah cair menjadi produk Nata de Soya. Hasil dari penelitian ini masyarakat sudah berhasil memanfaatkan limbah cair industri tahu menjadi olahan makanan berupa Nata de Soya. Kata kunci : limbah cair tahu, pelatihan, Nata de Soya

Abstract

Chitin is poly (2-acetamido-2-deoxy-β(1,4)-D-glucopyranose). Chitin can be isolated through several stages of chitin powder production, demineralization stage and bleaching stage. The purpose of this study is to learn the effect of concentration of sodium hydroxide and temperature in the process of chitin powder production, analyze chitin by using FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) spectrophotometer and determining moisture content, ash content and yield. The research procedure begins with crab shell waste size reduction into a powder size. The process of chitin powder production was carried out using concentration of NaOH variations (2.5%, 3.5% and 4.5%) and temperature (550C, 650C dan 750C), the ratio of 1:10 (w/v) for 2 hours and stirring speed 150 rpm, then demineralization process using HCl 1.5 N, the ratio of 1:15 (w/v) for 1 hour and stirring speed 150 rpm, then bleaching process using 4% NaOCl, the ratio of 1:15 (w/v) for 1 hour. The results showed that the higher concentration of NaOH and temperature, the yield, the water content and the resulting ash content were lower at 4.5% NaOH concentration and 750C at 15.54%, 4.13% and 0.5%. Based on the results of the obtained FTIR showed that the residue from isolation was chitin.Keywords: bleaching, crab shells, demineralization, FTIR, chitin.

Abstract

Lack of education in waste management has led to a large amount of waste being dumped in landfills. Organic waste is the largest type of waste disposed of in landfills. If organic waste is not managed properly, it can cause unpleasant odors in the environment and become a risk factor for global warming and explosions in landfills. Until now, waste management, both organic and inorganic waste, is still a challenge. This is also the case in RW 02 Kelurahan Air Putih. The community directly disposes of household waste without sorting the waste by type. In addition, the community also does not know how to process organic waste into useful items such as eco-enzyme and eco-enzyme processed products, namely cleaning fluids. This community service activity aims to increase community knowledge and skills on how to process household organic waste into eco-enzyme and liquid soap made from eco-enzyme. The targets in this activity are housewives in RT 06, RT 07, and RT 08, RW 02 Air Putih Village. The method used in this community service activity is socialization and training on how to make eco-enzyme and multipurpose liquid soap. The results obtained from this activity are the increased knowledge and skills of the community in processing organic waste into eco-enzyme and multipurpose liquid soap. The community is also enthusiastic and interested in making these products again in their homes.

Abstract

This research aims to explore how school principals implement visionary leadership in building an educational environment that integrates character values into policies, programs and daily practices. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with school principals, teachers and students, as well as through direct observation and analysis of school documents. The research results show that visionary leadership plays a significant role in forming a school culture that is oriented towards character formation. Visionary leadership is not only a strategic instrument in education management but also a catalyst for creating a generation with character and ready to face global challenges.
