Abstract

The public's lack of concern for health protocols is directly proportional to the increase in the number of people affected by the Covid-19 virus. This condition worsens when public facilities such as available hand washing equipment tend to be less hygienic because there is still physical contact during the hand washing process, so there is a great potential risk of spreading the Covid-19 outbreak in the community en masse. Therefore an innovation was made in the form of a touchless hand washing device equipped with sensors to replace the function of water taps and manual liquid soap containers. The target audience of this activity is the people in the hospital environment of Padang City. This activity is carried out in two stages, namely the first stage to design tools and the second stage in the form of procurement of tools as well as outreach to the people of Padang City who visit the hospital regarding the introduction and how to use hand washing tools without touch as well as demonstrating to the community with the assistance of the hospital about how to wash hands properly and correctly according to health protocols.

Abstract

Nagari Magek, located in Kamang Magek District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, faces serious problems related to clean water quality due to the high iron, manganese, and sulfur content. Although a solar-powered borehole system has been built to meet the water needs of 300 households, the water produced is still unfit for consumption. It impacts the decline of fish breeding businesses, one of the essential local traditions in Nagari Magek. To overcome this problem, community service activities aim to design effective clean water treatment technology and assist in fish nurseries and farming. The design process of the multi-level water filter has been carried out as a solution to improve water quality by introducing aeration-sedimentation-filtration technology and the Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) system. In addition, the fish nursery business in Nagari Magek is supported by modern pond management training and the empowerment of the younger generation for sustainable management.

Abstract

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). SARS-CoV-2 is a new type of coronavirus that has never been previously identified in humans. Indonesia reported its first case of COVID-19 on March 2, 2020 and the number continues to grow until now. Until October, 15 2020 the Ministry of Health reported 349,160 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 12,268 deaths. The COVID-19 Self-Assessment application can help screening of individual and health workers to accelerate case finding and make it easier for health workers to provide curative efforts. Socialization of the COVID-19 Self-Assessment Application in coordination with the Public Health Center Dadok Tunggul Hitam and Kelurahan Kampung Lapai. Activities included introduction, installation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of application usage. Participants installed the application on an Android device and implemented the application enthusiastically. It is hoped that this application can make it easier for community to access information related to COVID-19 and carry out screening independently.

Abstract

Bearing housings are critical mechanical components in small-scale manufacturing machinery. In field operations, standard pillow block designs frequently experience premature structural failures such as material cracking and high deformation under dynamic loads. This study aims to determine the exact structural causes of failure in standard bearing housings used within chain transmission systems and to develop an optimized, structurally superior modified design. The investigation was conducted numerically using open-source tools: FreeCAD for three-dimensional parametric modeling and PrePoMax (CalculiX solver) for Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The component was modeled using ASTM Class 35 Cast Iron with a yield strength of 170 MPa. The loading condition simulated a 1 HP motor running at 1500 rpm with a generated torque of 1.59 kg·m, where the chain tensile force was applied directly to the housing bore. The initial simulation revealed that the baseline design suffered from high stress concentrations around the bolt hole and fillet regions due to insufficient material thickness. The maximum principal stress reached 107.4 MPa, yielding an inadequate safety factor of 1.6 and a displacement of 0.002 mm. To resolve this, structural modifications were implemented by adding reinforcing ribs and thickening the housing profile. The FEA results of the modified design showed a significant stress reduction to 55 MPa (a decrease of approximately 49%). Furthermore, the maximum displacement at the top section dropped to 0.0009 mm, demonstrating a 45% reduction in displacement and higher structural stiffness. Consequently, the safety factor increased substantially from 1.6 to 3.6 (simulated at 3.09 in direct stress ratio). The incorporation of strengthening ribs and wall thickening successfully redistributes operational loads and minimizes material distortion. The modified design satisfies industrial safety regulations and is highly feasible for implementation in small-scale industrial chain drive applications.Keywords: Bearing Housing, Finite Element Method, Stress Concentration, Reinforcing Ribs, Safety Factor.

Abstract

Riau Province has three main rivers: the Kampar, Rokan, and Siak Rivers, which play important roles in water transportation and infrastructure development. River water environments can accelerate the corrosion of metallic materials, including galvanized steel. This study aims to analyze and compare the corrosion rates of galvanized steel in the water media of the three rivers using the weight loss method based on the ASTM G31 standard. The experiments were conducted with immersion time variations of 168, 336, 504, and 672 hours. The observed parameters included mass loss, pH changes, and specimen surface morphology. The results showed that the highest corrosion rate occurred in Kampar River water, reaching 55.888 mpy after 672 hours of immersion, while the lowest corrosion rate was found in Rokan River water at 1.0052 mpy after 168 hours. The chemical characteristics of river water significantly affect the corrosion resistance of galvanized steel.
