Abstract

Abstract— The harvesting of palm oil in Indonesia, is still done manually. This research analyzed the movement of the palm oil loading process manually, which risks of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) to workers. The methods used in this study include observation, interviews, the Nordic Body Map (NBM) Questionnaire, the Natural Range of Motion (ROM), and biomechanical load calculations. NBM is used to identify complaints of the worker’s body parts. The ROM method is used to analyze the risk of body movements when carrying out palm oil loading activities, and the calculation of biomechanical loads is to determine the burden on the worker's body parts. The results showed that there are three parts of the body involved in the process of loading palm oil so that workers often complain of pain, namely the shoulders, neck, and back. The biomechanical load that occurs on the back of the worker is 4866.36 N. This value exceeds the safety limit recommended by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) which is as high as 3400 N. Analysis using ROM found that the existing loading process of oil palm causes shoulders, neck, and back to form angles of 120°, 31° and 12°, respectively. This angle is in the danger zone based on ROM. Improvements are made by changing the work posture in the loading process of oil palm and giving changes to the body angle to 90° on the shoulder, 14° on the neck, and 2° on the back, which are already in the safe zone. The biomechanical load on the back after the improvement also decreased to 3287.38 N

Abstract

West Sumatra has great potential in developing biomass based on palm oil waste. This is because the largest plantation production in West Sumatra comes from the oil palm commodity of 1,082,820 tons in 2014. Therefore, it is necessary to design a model of supply chain biomass network for the distribution of Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB) from CPO factory suppliers located in West Sumatra and distributed to Depot Pertamina Teluk Kabung. Stages performed in the implementation of this study began with a preliminary study to determine the potential of biomass in West Sumatra. Furthermore, the design of chain supply chain optimization model by identifying supply chain activity, knowing the characteristics of supply chain system and make the formulation of mathematical model. The design of supply chain biomass from Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB) in West Sumatera, starting from raw material Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit (TKKS) sourced from Crude Palm Oil (CPO) factory in West Pasaman Regency and surrounding. This is because Pasaman Barat Regency is the central agroindustry of oil palm plantation which has 17 most palm oil factories in West Sumatra. The potential of bioethanol derived from CPO waste can be done by establishing bioethanol plant located with the same CPO factory so that it is adjacent to the source of the raw material. The result of the mathematical model mixed integer linear programming is placement of bioethanol plant location at PT Pasaman Marama Sejahtera with medium scale and total cost of IDR 251,563,700,000.00.

Abstract

Nowadays, consumers are getting smarter in choosing products, including food products. Food safety is an important thing that must be considered by the food industry. Unsafe food production can only be done because of food, product needs, lengthy legal process, but can also damage the community. Customer needs demand certainty from the food provided in a way that meets food safety standards, from the garden to the table. To fulfill this reason, all parties involved in the food production process must know and understand well matters related to food procurement standards for the products produced. Rendang is one of the traditional foods of West Sumatra that has begun worldwide. This requires the need to produce rendang with food safety standards is very important. Based on this, within the framework of the Community Service Department of Industrial Engineering UNAND conducts training / technical guidance related to the rendang food procurement standards with training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This activity was expected to help Small and Medium Enterprises to get business standardization.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out by designing a cabinet for finished products and handing over the cabinet to a small and medium industry producing various types of crackers, namely IKM Kerupuk Azizah. IKM Kerupuk Azizah used open shelves to store packaged finished products. This practice was unhygienic and risky. Animals like rats and insects ate and damaged the materials and products. In addition, the warehouse needed to look more tidy. Moreover, from an aesthetic point of view, it was unattractive. A storage cabinet was designed to solve this problem. In designing the cabinet, available space, the number of piles of finished products, and the dimensions of the packaged finished products were considered. The results showed that, with a storage cabinet for finished products, IKM Kerupuk Azizah improved products’ quality and hygiene so that consumers would have more confidence in purchasing the products. In addition, IKM Kerupuk Azizah also applied the Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, and Shitsuke (5S) principles in their work environment to create a clean, healthy, and comfortable workplace.

Abstract

Vehicle crashworthiness is a critical aspect of automotive safety engineering designed to minimize injury to occupants during collisions. This paper investigates the role of trigger mechanisms in enhancing crashworthiness by managing energy absorption and deformation during impact. Trigger mechanisms, including structural features like grooves, holes, or geometric discontinuities, initiate controlled deformation, optimizing energy dissipation. This study evaluates the effectiveness of crash boxes with various cross sections and six trigger designs: bead initiator, diamond notch, smaller thickness, circular notch, circular holes, and oval holes, to absorb energy of collision using computational software, MSC Dytran. The results show that a crash box with an octagonal section absorbs more energy than those with square, rectangular, or hexagonal sections. Among the introduced trigger designs, the models of bead initiator, circular notches, and circular holes were considerably the most effective in energy absorption.

Abstract

This paper explores theoretical and practical foundations for integrating Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and lean maintenance to achieve healthcare systems' sustainable performances. A systematic literature review is performed. The review methodology consists of seven steps: defining the research question, searching the literature, screening the literature, documenting the search results, assessing articles' quality, documenting the review results, and synthesizing. The search found a limited number of publications exploring the relationship between TPM and lean maintenance to achieve sustainable performances of healthcare systems. Most contributors were from developing countries. The publication peaked in 2023 and 2024, and the number tended to rise from 2012 to 2024. The synthesis process shows limited evidence about the relationship between TPM and hospital sustainable performance. Theoretically, the relationship between TPM, lean maintenance, and sustainable performance in healthcare systems is plausible. However, the concepts were rarely tested. For future research, this paper proposes to investigate the relationship between TPM practices and hospitals' sustainable performance moderated by lean maintenance. A conceptual model is also presented.

Abstract

Palm oil had become one of Indonesia’s leading commodities, contributing significantly to national economic development; however, it faced sustainability challenges, particularly concerning greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with international standards. This study examined the measurement of environmental impact per monetary unit of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and kernel production in Palm Oil Mill X, by integrating environmental and socio-economic impacts through Eco-efficiency Analysis. The environmental impact assessment was conducted using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method, while the socio-economic impact values were measured using the Economic Input-Output (EIO) method. The data used in this study consisted of primary data and secondary data. Primary data were collected directly from Palm Oil Mill X, including information on production volumes, energy consumption and waste generation. Secondary data were obtained from published literature, government reports and national statistical database to complement and validate the primary data used in the analysis. The study evaluated eleven environmental impact categories, one of which was GWP. The research findings indicated that for a functional unit of 1 ton of CPO, the GWP was measured at 556.31 kg CO₂ eq/ton CPO, with approximately 80% of the GWP originating from CPO processing and wastewater (POME). In terms of socio-economic aspects, the wage multiplier was recorded at 0.930 and the tax contribution at 0.0698, demonstrating the significant contribution of the palm oil industry to labor income. The final economic contribution value (G⁺) was noted to be Rp 23,728,407/ton CPO. The results of the Eco-efficiency Analysis revealed that the GWP per Rupiah was 2.34 × 10⁻⁵ kg CO₂ eq/Rp, indicating opportunities for emission reduction through the use of cleaner energy. This study provided a quantitative overview of the interrelationship between environmental performance and socio-economic benefits, serving as a strategic reference for enhancing the sustainability of the palm oil industry.

Abstract

This paper presents a case study of determining vehicles’ routes. The case is taken from a pharmaceutical products distribution problem faced by a distribution company located in the city of Padang, Indonesia. The objective of this paper is to reduce the total distribution time required by the salesmen of the company. Since the company uses more than one salesman, then the problem is modeled as a multi travelling salesman problem (m-TSP). The problem is solved by employing genetic algorithm (GA) and a Matlab® based computer program is developed to run the algorithm. It is found that, by employing two salesmen only, the routes produced by GA results in a 30% savings in total distribution time compared to the current routes used by the company (currently the company employs three salesmen). This paper determines distances based on the latitude and longitude of the locations visited by the salesmen. Therefore, the distances calculated in this paper are approximations. It is suggested that actual distances are used for future research.
