Abstract

Pakcoy (Brassica chinensis L.) is a vegetable from the Brassicaceae family. Pakcoy is a short-lived plant. Pakcoy contains fat, protein, Fe, Ca, P, Vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, with that pakcoy is very good for health and has prospects for high economic value. The first factor affecting the decline in pakcoy production is soil fertility. The continuous use of land with chemical fertilizers results in a decrease in biological, chemical and physical soil fertility, one of the efforts to overcome this problem is to improve cultivation techniques through fertilization. This study aims to determine the growth response of the pakcoy plant by administering liquid organic fertilizer from mushroom baglog waste and watermelon rinds. This study used a factorial complete randomized design with 2 factors, namely the interval of watering of liquid organic fertilizer and the volume of organic fertilizer dilution concentration and used quantitative descriptive analysis with the Two Way ANOVA test. The purpose of this study was to determine the growth response of the pakcoy plant to the application of liquid organic fertilizer from mushroom baglog waste and watermelon rinds. The results of this study indicated that the TIV3 treatment (watering interval once every 3 days with a volume of 30% dilution concentration) gave a response to plant height with an average of 18.05 cm, number of leaves with an average of 6 leaves, and an average fresh weight of 11.50 g.

Abstract

Background: Brown Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus cystidiosus) is a type of mushroom that has different advantages from other oyster mushrooms. Generally, farmers make planting media for brown oyster mushrooms made from sawdust of sengon wood. The availability of raw materials for sawdust of sengon wood is increasingly difficult to obtain. So we need other alternative materials as a source of nutrition, one of which is banana stem waste. This study aims to determine the effect of banana stem flour on the diameter of the cap, the number of fruiting bodies, and the wet weight of the fungus. Methods: This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) which consisted of one factor. This study used 4 treatments and 3 replications. Data was tested by quantitative descriptive analysis using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test. Results: Banana stem flour has a significant effect on all parameters. The JM2 treatment resulted in a cap diameter of 10.3 cm, mushroom fruiting bodies of 10.6 and wet mushroom weight of 103.8 g. Conclusion: The addition of banana stem powder can increase productivity in the parameters of mushroom cap diameter, number of mushroom fruiting bodies, and wet weight of mushrooms, which can be used by readers or researchers. Utilization of waste such as sawdust of sengon wood and waste of banana fronds for the cultivation of brown oyster mushrooms is one way of handling plantation waste.

Abstract

One of the Basic Competencies (KD) in Biology for Indonesian Senior High School is KD 4.12 which reads "Presents observations of the process of mitosis in the onion root and determines the phases it finds". Based on the basic competency test, students are required to have skills in making and observing mitotic preparations of plant tissue with at least using onion. Observation of mitotic division in plant tissues requires skill in making preparations. Making preparations in observing cells and tissues of plants or animals needs staining. Dyes often used in lab work are synthetic dyes. One of the synthetic dyes commonly used is safranin. However, safranin is quite expensive. This limitation requires teachers to look for alternatives to synthetic dyes that are easily found at a more affordable price, namely with natural dyes. One of the plants that has the potential to overcome this issue is beetroot (Beta vulgaris). The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of plant tissue preparations (Allium cepa) stained with beetroot skin (Beta vulgaris) as a natural coloring agent. The research method used was an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design consisting of two factors, namely the staining time (1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours) and the type of solvent (aquades and citric acid 10%). The results of the study were analyzed with qualitative descriptive methods which included contrast and clarity of the preparations. Based on the results of the study, the quality of Allium cepa root preparations using beetroot (Beta vulgaris) skin extract with variations in the type of solvent and duration of staining showed good results on the staining time of 1 hour and 2 hours. The staining time of the preparations can affect the contrast and clarity of the preparations.
