Abstract

The road is an infrastructure that plays an important role in people's daily lives. Therefore, it isnecessary to maintain and repair road conditions regularly. The existence of budget constraints causesnot all damaged road sections can be handled. So that in handling road repairs it is necessary todetermine priorities. In determining the priority of road improvement there are criteria that are takeninto consideration in decision making. One method of analysis that can be used to overcome complexitydue to various criteria is the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The AHP method is used toobtain the weight of 4 criteria that are taken into consideration in determining the priority of roadimprovement, namely road conditions, traffic volume, costs, and road classification. Calculation of scoresfor each road improvement proposal is obtained by multiplying the priority weight of the criteria by thecriteria value of each proposal. The results show that the Decision Support System that is designed canproduce a ranking of alternatives in the form of road improvement proposals based on predeterminedcriteria, so that it can be used as a basis for decision making to determine road improvement priorities.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effect of mesh size on the coconut shell charcoal grinder machine on the grinding time and the quality of the produced briquettes. We tested different mesh screen sizes to determine the optimal grinding time and their impact on the briquettes' characteristics, including density, compressive strength, and combustion efficiency. The research results show that the sieve size has a significant impact on the grinding time and the quality of the briquettes. A 0.5 mm sieve results in the longest grinding time, while a 1 mm sieve provides the fastest grinding time. The smaller the sieve size, the longer it takes to achieve the desired fineness. Other factors such as compressive strength and combustion still influence the quality of the produced briquettes, even though the 1 mm sieve increases time efficiency. Therefore, we recommend using the 1 mm sieve for time efficiency, but further testing is necessary to ensure optimal briquette quality, particularly in terms of density and combustion efficiency.

Abstract

The condensation process of smoke in charcoal-burning systems generates high temperatures that pose a critical thermal risk to PVC piping, which has a melting point of 85 °C. This study presents the design and implementation of a distributed temperature sensing system using dual-channel Type-K thermocouples controlled by an Arduino Uno microcontroller. The system is equipped with fault-tolerant logging and real-time monitoring features, utilizing the MAX6675 thermocouple amplifier module for digital signal acquisition. Two sensors are strategically placed along the smoke conduit to capture temperature differentials between primary and secondary zones. Experimental testing was conducted over six consecutive days with data acquisition sessions at noon and midnight. The highest recorded temperature from the primary sensor reached 83.75 °C, while the secondary sensor recorded significantly lower values, indicating a thermal gradient of 23.8 °C between inlet and outlet. Comparative calibration using an umbrella-type analog thermometer revealed a minimal deviation of 0.41 °C, confirming the system’s accuracy. Two sets of error profiling showed variations in measurement consistency, with average error rates of 13.79% and 5.93% across a 30 °C–80 °C reference range. Voltage stability was maintained throughout all test scenarios, with a constant 5 V input and 4.4 V output. The system successfully demonstrated its ability to perform dual-point thermal detection with resilient performance under fluctuating combustion conditions. This sensor-integrated platform is well-suited for thermal protection and early intervention in biomass-based liquid smoke condensation systems, particularly in small-scale applications using low-melting-point materials such as PVC.

Abstract

This study investigates the thermal and energy performance of a custom designed ice maker that utilizes a modified outdoor air conditioning (AC) unit as its primary refrigeration system. The objective is to evaluate the feasibility, efficiency, and operational stability of using a household AC condenser unit for small scale ice production, particularly in areas with limited access to commercial ice making equipment. The experimental setup was tested over an 8 hour operation period, with parameters such as input water temperature, ice formation temperature, freezing time, power consumption, Coefficient of Performance (COP), and system efficiency being measured and analyzed. The results show that the system was capable of producing 6.5 kg of ice, with a measured actual COP of 3.05 and an efficiency of 67.78%. Although minor deviations were observed from the design specifications, the overall performance remained within acceptable limits. These findings suggest that repurposing outdoor AC units can provide a cost effective and energy efficient alternative for localized ice production.
