Abstract

Obesity is a health problem that can occur in various circles, including adolescents. The prevalence of obesity in adolescents continues to increase, although various efforts have been made to prevent and control obesity. Health education with the lecture method is less effective to be applied to today's youth. Therefore, one of the educational methods provided is the provision of education through animated videos that can attract the attention of teenagers so that messages can be conveyed and increase adolescent knowledge. This educational activity will be held in September 2022 in the PK Al Kautsar Kartasura Junior High School Hall. The participants of this activity were 51 teenagers consisting of grades 8 and 9. Nutrition education began with giving a pretest, then continued with the provision of material containing indicators of obesity, causes, impacts and how to prevent obesity with animated video media, to see the increase in knowledge, students were given posttest and discussion and question and answer. Increased knowledge about anemia that occurred in 40 adolescents, while 11 adolescents did not experience an increase. The average increase in knowledge is 29.67 points. This increase in knowledge shows that providing education by presenting animated videos can be effective in increasing adolescent knowledge. Therefore, the parties suggest that similar activities can be carried out regularly to increase their knowledge of the health of their students.

Abstract

This article discusses the health promotion program among Indonesian migrant workers and their children living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, aiming for a better awareness of their health condition. In particular, this article describes and analyzes the community engagement program in Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIKL) and Muhammadiyah Malaysia (PCIM) to provide health education and screening. Based on the preliminary study, Indonesian migrant workers and their families have limited access to healthcare facilities and programs. The program covers topics such as healthy reproduction and sexual vigilance for the youth, well-being and healthy lifestyles, as well as the importance of basic health screening. The program employs a qualitative study, employing the pre- and post-tests to measure the increase of knowledge before and after the program using descriptive statistics. As a result, an increase in awareness regarding health conditions among the youth can be identified after being exposed to the program. Meanwhile, the health screening program successfully identifies the health profile of migrant workers: a tendency to be overweight and a suffer from degenerative diseases. The screening results made them to be more aware of their health condition. The program was well received, as shown by the number of participants and further requests for a regular health screening. This finding indicates that future studies are required, to identify the daily diet of migrant workers and other health indicators. A similar phenomenon might occur with migrant workers globally, showing the importance of the provision of access and health programs for them.

Abstract

The partner for community service activities was the youth posyandu in Tambakboyo Hamlet, Mliwis. Adolescent boys at Mitra Posyandu have a smoking habit. There were 25% of teenage boys who have tried to stop smoking but failed. The problems faced by posyandu partners are the difficulty of generating teenagers' intention to stop smoking, teenagers also don't know how to stop smoking, and there are still many teenagers who relapse or smoke again even though they are already at the action stage. The aim of this program was to provide smoking cessation education and health messages with the stages of change in smoking behavior in each adolescent using a transtheoretical model approach and monitoring and strengthening smoking cessation by adolescent cadres. The methods used were socializing activities to youth posyandu, providing media on how to stop smoking, providing education regarding efforts to stop smoking, training youth cadres, designing applications for monitoring efforts to stop smoking, and assisting teenagers to stop smoking. The results of this service were that there was an increase in adolescent knowledge by 0.17% after being given smoking cessation education, the formation of peer counselors consisting of adolescent cadres, the existence of health media in the form of pocket books and booklets, and the creation of the Smoke Stop Step (3S) application to monitor efforts of quit smoking.
