Abstract

Literasi sains secara global bertujuan untuk mempersiapkan warga negara yang bertanggung jawab dan peka terhadap masalah-masalah sekitar (responsible citizenship). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan awal literasi sains mahasiswa pendidikan biologi Universitas Sulawesi Barat. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa program studi pendidikan biologi Unsulbar yang menempuh semester dua di tahun ajaran 2016/2017. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 30 mahasiswa yang ditetapkan secara purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk pengumpulan data adalah Scientific Literacy Assessment (SLA) yang dikembangkan oleh Fives et al (2014). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa skor per aspek literasi sains adalah: (1) Peran sains (role of science), skor 56, kategori kurang baik; (2) Berpikir dan bekerja secara ilmiah (scientific thinking and doing), skor 50, kategori sangat kurang; (3) Sains dan masyarakat (science and society), skor 68, kategori cukup baik; (4) Matematika dalam sains (mathematics and science), skor 45, kategori sangat kurang; (5) Motivasi dan kepercayaan terhadap sains (science motivation and biliefs), skor 76, kategori baik. Secara keseluruhan rerata skor aspek literasi sains mahasiswa adalah 59, dengan kategori kurang. Kata kunci: Literasi Sains, Scientific Literacy Assessment

Abstract

Pelatihan pembuatan soal CBT (Computer Based Test) menggunakan program wondershare quiz creator 4 bertujuan untuk memberikan keterampilan kepada sekolah mitra dalam membuat soal CBT menggunakan program wondershare quiz creator 4. Termasuk di dalamnya adalah memberikan pendampingan dan pembinaan kepada mitra dalam uji coba pengoptimalan produk yang dihasilkan. Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di SMKN Limboro, Kabupaten Polewali Mandar, Sulawesi Barat. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 10 orang guru bidang studi yang berbeda-beda. Metode pelaksanaan dalam pengabdian ini adalah berupa pelatihan dan pendampingan kepada peserta. Sajian materi dalam pelatihan ini yaitu: evaluasi pembelajaran Abad 21; pentingnya penggunaan computer based test dalam evaluasi pembelajaran; pengenalan program wondershare quiz creator 4; cara pembuatan soal CBT menggunakan program wondershare quiz creator 4; praktik mandiri; dan simulasi atau uji coba hasil praktik mandiri. Hasil yang dicapai dalam pelatihan ini adalah: guru SMKN Limboro yang telah mengikuti pelatihan telah mampu membuat soal CBT menggunakan program wondershare quiz creator 4; program pengabdian masyarakat ini telah berjalan sesuai dengan yang direncanakan, dan semua peserta hadir.

Abstract

The learning of biology encompasses two main dimensions, namely products and processes, which ideally should not be separated. However, in practice, dominant biology learning still focuses primarily on the product dimension. One solution to address this issue is to develop guided inquiry-based biology learning modules and concept maps. This developmental research aims to produce biology learning modules that meet valid criteria. The development model used refers to the Plomp model. The instruments used include questionnaires and validation sheets. The validation results by the learning design validator were 95.67 (valid), the biology learning material validator was 91.72 (valid), and the biology subject teacher validator was 94.32 (valid). Thus, the developed guided inquiry-based biology learning module and concept map meet the valid criteria

Abstract

Guru SD memiliki peran yang krusial dalam membentuk dasar pengetahuan, karakter, dan keterampilan peserta didik. Oleh karena itu, pengembangan profesionalisme guru SD harus diperhatikan. Salah satu cara untuk memfasilitasi pengembangan profesionalisme guru SD adalah dengan memberikan pelatihan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Pelatihan ini sekaligus untuk mengatasi permasalahan substansial yang dihadapi oleh guru mitra di lapangan yaitu sebagian besar guru masih kurang memahami konsep PTK dan masih kurangnya pelatihan PTK yang pernah diikuti oleh guru. Pelatihan PTK ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan yang sistematis dan terstruktur terkait rancangan PTK, kerangka laporan PTK, dan kerangka manuskrip ilmiah hasil PTK kepada guru SD. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada Bulan September–November 2022 di SDN 024 Pelitakan, Kabupaten Polewali Mandar, Sulawesi Barat, dengan jumlah peserta sebanyak 10 orang. Pelaksanaan kegiatan terdiri atas tiga tahapan utama, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Pelatihan ini memberikan dampak yang baik terhadap pemahaman peserta terkait rancangan PTK, kerangka laporan PTK, dan kerangka manuskrip ilmiah hasil PTK.

Abstract

The students' perception of the implementation of the Reading, Questioning, and Answering (RQA) learning model was still an essential domain to be explored further. Therefore, this study aimed to explore students' perceptions of the implementation of the RQA learning model in Basic Biology lectures. This descriptive research used an exploratory survey method. The respondents who participated were 57 students (30%) enrolled in the Basic Biology course at the Health Administration Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Sulawesi Barat. The instrument used to collect data was a questionnaire consisting of 30 statements with four answer choices using the Likert scale. The data obtained from the research were analyzed descriptively. The study findings indicated that students' perceptions were at a slightly high level after the implementation of the RQA learning model in Basic Biology lectures.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the research and scientific writing capabilities of students at SMA Negeri 1 Tinambung. The principal challenge identified at the partner school involves the students' limited exposure to scientific writing that could strengthen their research abilities and competitive in national scientific competitions. Therefore, this community service program was designed to equip students with basic research skills. Additionally, students were provided with knowledge about scientific papers, including their definition, objectives, benefits, characteristics, types, structure, and examples of national student research olympiads. The program was conducted from April to June 2024. A total of 19 students participated in this program. The implementation stages included planning, training execution, and evaluation. Based on the evaluation results, it was found that students were able to develop research proposal frameworks comprising title, abstract, introduction, literature review, and research methodology. Questionnaire results regarding the program implementation quality also showed that participants gave positive assessments across various aspects of the training, with an average score of 4.86, indicating that the training was well-executed and effective.

Abstract

University-level learning is currently aimed at encouraging students to master high-level skills such as scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. This study aimed to determine the differences in scientific literacy and critical thinking among students before and after being taught using the Group Investigation-Mind Mapping (GI-MM) model. This quasi-experimental study used a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study population comprised of 55 students enrolled in a biochemistry course. Using the cluster random sampling technique, one class (19 students) was selected as the research sample. The instruments used in this study were multiple-choice written test questions to measure students' scientific literacy, and essay-type written test questions to measure students' critical thinking. Descriptive and inferential analyses were used for data analysis (paired t-test). The results showed that all indicators of students' scientific literacy improved after implementation of the GI-MM model, with an average increase of 40.04%. In addition, the mean pretest and posttest scores for the five indicators of students' critical thinking showed significant improvement after implementation of the GI-MM learning model, with an average increase of 61.43%. The paired t-test results reinforced the finding that there were significant differences in the students' scientific literacy and critical thinking skills before and after being taught using the GI-MM learning model.

Abstract

Higher education institutions play a crucial role in preparing biology teacher candidates to be proficient in technological advancements to meet the challenges of 21st-century learning. This study aimed to determine the differences in technology literacy and creative thinking skills among students before and after being taught using an interactive microteaching model that integrated technology and creativity. This quasi-experimental study used a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study population consisted of all the students enrolled in the microteaching course. Using the cluster random sampling technique, two classes (33 students) were selected as the research sample. The instruments used in this research were observation sheets that were used to measure students' technological literacy and creative thinking skills. Descriptive and inferential analyses were used for data analysis (paired t-test). The results showed that all observed indicators of technology literacy and creative thinking skills demonstrated significant improvements from pretest to post-test. Comparative test results using the paired t-test also confirmed that there were significant differences in the technology literacy variables and creative thinking skills among students before and after the implementation of the interactive microteaching model.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya pengaruh model pembelajaran berbasis problem solving terhadap hasil belajar mahasiswa biologi Universitas Sulawesi Barat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan menggunakan desain penelitian posttest only control group desaign, terdiri dari dua variabel yaitu model pembelajaran berbasis problem solving dengan pembelajaran langsung sebagai variabel bebas dan hasil belajar mahasiswa sebagai variabel terikat. Populasi penelitian ini adalah semua mahasiswa biologi Universitas Sulawesi Barat tahun ajaran 2017/2018 sebanyak 4 kelas dengan jumlah keseluruhan 112, pengambilan sampel secara random terpilih kelas biologi A dan C. Setelah pemberian tes hasil belajar, data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan statistik deskriptif dan inferensial dengan tingkat kesalahan 5% (α = 0,05). Hasil analisis statistik deskriptif diperoleh nilai rata-rata hasil belajar peserta didik yang diajar dengan pembelajaran berbasis problem solving lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan model pembelajaran langsung. Hasil analisis statistik inferensial menujukkan bahwa model pembelajaran berbasis problem solving berpengaruh terhadap hasil belajar mahasiswa biologi Universitas Sulawesi Barat.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of the quantum teaching model assisted by a lapbook on the creativity of tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Alu, Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi. This research adopted a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving 42 students divided into an experimental group (quantum teaching with a lapbook) and a control group (conventional teaching). The cluster random sampling technique was used to determine the classes that were selected as research samples. The research instrument consisted of a creativity test with 15 items. Data analysis was performed using the independent sample t-test statistical method. The results revealed a significant difference in student creativity between the experimental group (mean posttest score of 73.14) and the control group (mean posttest score of 62.38), with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings indicated that the integration of quantum teaching and a lapbook effectively enhanced students’ creativity, as measured by indicators of curiosity, fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, and divergent thinking. This study concluded that quantum teaching combined with a lapbook can be an effective solution to foster students' creativity in biology teaching, particularly on the topic of ecosystems.
