Abstract

The aim of this paper is to elucidate the new humanistic-anthropocosmic paradigm as a framework for transforming urban slum settlements in Indonesia amidst climate change and within a multidimensional living context. The paper elaborates on the ideas of Father Mangunwijaya and draws inspiration from the encyclical Laudato Si. The methodology employed involves a literature review and reflection on the paradigm of transforming slum settlements that have been implemented in several cities in Indonesia. Findings suggest that the Humanistic-Anthropocosmic paradigm, a fusion of Father Mangunwijaya's ideas and inspiration from the encyclical Laudato Si, holds the potential to facilitate sustainable and environmentally friendly transformation of urban slum settlements, considering social, economic, and environmental aspects. This article contributes to the development of a paradigm for transforming urban slum settlements rooted in humanistic architecture, education for liberation, ecological spirituality, integral ecology, and anthropocosmism.

Abstract

Indonesia's population growth has slowed, yet low-income people still require affordable urban housing. Land scarcity, limited financial options, and complicated home funding provide significant challenges. This study analyses existing literature to find ways to provide cheap housing to Indonesian middle-class residents. The study examines land use, financing, and cash availability. The findings show that MBR cannot get funding due to high costs and strict criteria, while the scarcity of urban land is hindering development. The analysis recommends using unused government land and promoting vertical housing to maximise land use, investigating microfinance and lease-purchase schemes, and simplifying housing fund access. These hurdles can be overcome to provide fair and affordable housing for all in Indonesia, promoting social stability and sustainable urban expansion.

Abstract

Efforts to display the expression of the functions and local identities of buildings are merely copying ornamental variations of vernacular architectural elements. As a result, the relation among function-form-meaning remain unseen. This study aims to explain the application of the concept of synthesized architectural expressions on government owned buildings. Based on the research objectives, the Mayor’s office building of Kupang City was chosen as the object of this case study. The initial step of this research is to elaborate the theory of archetypal anatomy and the relation of architectural function-meaning-functions. Furthermore, the observation unit is redrawn in three dimensions and analyzed based on ordering principle of balance and orientation. The analysis shows that the interpretation of the appearance of Mayor's office building of Kupang City displays monumental, formal, local expressions and represents democratic ideologies. Interpretation of synthesized expressions occurs in the dominant aspects of local architecture in the elements of the roof, walls and entrance columns. The results of this study confirm that the concept of synthesized expression plays an important role in the midst of change pressure and for the sustainability of architecture nowadays. DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/lw.v12i2.4302

Abstract

Patterns and meanings are one of the formal architectural objects commonly studied by academics and practitioners. However, the philosophy, theory, and concept of structuralism underlying architectural patterns and meanings as a complex and diverse issue have not been conducted. Therefore, it is important to carry out in-depth studies in the context of structuralism on these objects. This theoretical study reveals the relationship between vernacular architectural patterns and the influencing philosophical, theoretical, and paradigm factors using the literature review method. Based on the notion of structural thought elaborated with architectural theory in the context of form, function, and meaning, three approaches were formulated, namely formalist, genetic, and dynamic structural approaches to reading architectural patterns and traditional meaning forms. The results showed that this study has succeeded in presenting a new reading tool to parse the patterns and meanings of a relatively complete vernacular architecture starting from the philosophical, theoretical context to the underlying paradigm. These results are expected to be useful as a new reading tool for vernacular architectural patterns. Similarly, the expected implication is as a modern architectural design method.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: A simple house is a livable place where the indoor and outdoor spaces are limited, so that it can be a solution to the problem of lack of land and costs to build a house. This concept has been around for a long time and the government has set a minimum standard for a comfortable area in a simple house and has been applied by developers to build throughout Indonesia, including in the city of Kupang. In the process of growth, the people of Kupang City experienced a change in perception regarding the need for space which led to the emergence of new activities, which had an impact on the inability of the existing spaces in modest homes to accommodate new occupants' activities. The purpose of this paper is to identify innovative simple house space concepts due to changes in the perception of the needs of the people of Kupang City. The method used is a qualitative method using Habraken's theory as a basic reference, namely the theory of zoning and spatial components, and data collection using observation and questionnaire methods. The results of this study indicate that changes in the perception of the space requirements of the people of Kupang City have an impact on the addition of new activities to indoor and outdoor spaces resulting in changes to the zoning and patterns of simple residential spaces.

Abstract

Abstract: Design thinking with a semiotic approach is a design strategy that seeks to bridge the communication gap between architects and the process of interpreting messages by readers or observers, so that architectural works can be interpreted properly. The Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) is the highest symbol of autonomous government power in the Regency area. Based on the functional ideology attached to the DPRD building, the architectural form of the DPRD office building is a symbolic language that represents local values and cultural identity. The aim of this research is to find out the concept of symbolic signs that are internalized by local people and how semiotic transformation strategies can be carried out to produce expressions in the form of DPRD office buildings that represent local identities. The method used is to conduct a literature study that is relevant to the formal object of architectural semiotics, then elaborated with the theory of the principles of architectural arrangement of government buildings as the material object of this research. Based on the research objectives, a collection of ideas, ideas, attributes and symbols of local culture, were analyzed and mapped within the semiotic-Barthes concept framework and transformed into a simulation model for the design of the East Flores Regency DPRD office building. building. Abstract

productivity is the ratio between output and input, or the comparison between product results and the total resources used. Based on several field observations, the productivity of labor spread across the city of Kupang, especially in brick production, varies greatly. As a result of varying productivity, the results obtained are also very varied. This research was completed with a multiple regression analysis method that began with the collection of raw data through site surveys the distribution of questionnaires to respondents including the owners of brick companies and brick workers in the city of Kupang. Of the five external factors that are used to determine how they affect the productivity of brickworkers in Kupang City, the influence factor is the weather. The significant value of the effect of X3 on Y was 0.279 > 0.05 and the t value was 2.095 > t table 2.00758. Thus it can be concluded that H3 is accepted which means there is an influence of X3 on Y. While the other four factors namely the distance of raw materials to the production machine, cleanliness, wages and motivation do not affect the productivity of the brickworkers..
