Abstract

The aim of this research is to measure the implementation of authentic materials in improving students’ reading comprehension of the eighth grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri Sausu. This research used quasi-experimental design.  It treated two classes namely experimental and control class. This quasi experimental research took 34 students of grade VIII B for the experimental class and 32 students of grade VIII A for the control. In choosing class to be a sample, this study used purposive sampling technique. This study used research instrument to collect data, namely questionnaire items and test. The result of data analysis indicate that the students’ mean score of the posttest is 66.9 in experimental class is higher than the mean score of the control class 52.5. It means that the students’ reading comprehension is improved because of  implementing the authentic materials since the mean score of pretest is significantly different from the mean score of posttest. In conclusion, the implementation of Authentic Materials can improve students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research aims at proving that the use of SQ4R method improves the critical reading ability of the grade XI MIA of MAN 1 Sausu. The method used in this research was quasi-experimental research design. The sample of the research was selected by using purposive sampling technique, in which the researcher intentionally chose grade XI MIA 2 as experimental class and XI MIA 4 as control class. The instruments of data collection were questionnaire items, interview items and tests. The data were analyzed by using t-test statistical and descriptive methods. Based on the results of the tests, the mean score of the experimental class is 80.38, while the mean score of the control class is 71.  Furthermore, based on the result of questionnaire, there were 96% students decided the implementation of SQ4R method had given contribution to improve their thinking and reading critical ability, then considered that the practice of SQ4R method was very effective for them. In other words, applying SQ4R method affects students’ critical reading comprehension of the grade XI MIA of MAN 1 Sausu

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find out whether using speech can improve the students’ pronunciation at the eleventh grade of SMA N 10 Pulau Taliabu or not. The researchers used speech as a medium to improve the students’ pronunciation in this research. They employed pre-experimental research with one group for pre-test and post-test. The research population was the eleventh-grade students of SMA N 10 Pulau Taliabu. The sample of this research was all of the students at the eleventh-grade that consist of 30 students. Then, the data were analysed statistically. According to the findings of the research, the use of speech is effective to improve the EFL students’ pronunciation at the eleventh grade students of SMA N 10 Pulau Taliabu. This result is proved through the  t–counted (19.17) was higher than the t-table (1.70113) by applying 0.05 level significance and degree of freedom (df) 29.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the meaning and function of expressions using emotes in the Mobile Legends game. The object of this research is the Mobile Legends game. The research data is in the form of emotes in the game and grouped using Pierce's semiotic approach (Representation, object and interpretant), then data analysis is carried out by describing the meaning of emotes in the Mobile Legends game. The results found that there are several functions of emote markers such as expression markers of praise, ridicule, surprise /surprised, recognizing greatness, and frustration increasing enthusiasm, 'being stupid/don't care. There are several communication systems in the Mobile Legend game including: 1) Chat column feature, 2) Quick chat feature, 3) Direct conversation feature. , and 4) Emotes. Of these four features, the emote feature is most widely used in communication when playing the Mobile Legends game. This emote feature is a form of communication that combines several elements, namely images, text, movement and sound. This certainly creates a more interesting playing atmosphere.

Abstract

In today’s digital age, the integration of content via platforms like TikTok holds immense potential for maximizing English proficiency among learners, offering engaging and interactive opportunities for language. The study aims to investigated the effectiveness of integrating content via TikTok platform in maximizing English proficiency at SMP Negeri 3 Bulagi. Utilizing a qualitative method, this study will explore how content provided through TikTok can be optimally utilized to enhance English Language skills among learners. The subjects of this research are English teacher and grade 8 students. The methodology involves data collection through observation of TikTok usage as a language learning toll, interview with participant actively using the platform, and analysis of available content. The findings of this research are expected to provide deep insight into the potential of TikTok as an innovative and effective language learning tool, as well as practical guidance for educator and learners in leveraging this platform optimally to enhance English language proficiency. Based on the data obtained, integrating content via TikTok in language learning give many contributions in maximizing English proficiency. The first utilizing audio visual in TikTok application in language learning especially listening, Second, by using TikTok students can also process words to express, convey an express intention, ideas and thoughts feeling that compiled and developed according to the needs of students, Third, the edit feature contained in TikTok can be used by students presenting data, ideas or impressions in the form of a description of an object. Fourth the TikTok application can be used as a medium for students to practice reading news.

Abstract

Etika profesi guru merupakan fondasi utama dalam membentuk karakter pendidik yang tidak hanya kompeten secara akademik, tetapi juga berintegritas secara moral. Dalam konteks pendidikan tinggi, penting untuk memahami bagaimana calon guru memaknai nilai-nilai etis dalam profesinya di masa depan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pandangan mahasiswa calon pendidik terhadap etika profesi guru, khususnya nilai-nilai etis yang mereka anggap penting, tantangan yang mereka prediksi akan dihadapi, serta harapan mereka terhadap profesionalisme pendidik ke depan. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam terhadap mahasiswa dari berbagai program studi kependidikan di jenjang sarjana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memandang etika sebagai bagian integral dari identitas seorang guru. Nilai-nilai utama yang dianggap penting meliputi keadilan, kejujuran, tanggung jawab, dan empati. Meskipun mereka menyadari potensi tantangan seperti tekanan struktural institusi, ekspektasi masyarakat, serta dinamika sosial yang kompleks, para calon pendidik tetap menunjukkan optimisme terhadap terbentuknya sosok guru yang tidak hanya profesional dalam penguasaan materi, tetapi juga menjunjung tinggi integritas dan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan. Kesimpulan dari studi ini menegaskan pentingnya penguatan pendidikan etika profesi dalam kurikulum pendidikan keguruan, agar calon guru memiliki landasan moral yang kuat dalam menjalani peran mereka sebagai agen perubahan di tengah masyarakat yang terus berkembang.

Abstract

Online games are a form of game played over the internet network. Players can connect with other players from various geographic locations to interact and compete virtually. The aim of this research is to socialize online games to improve the English language skills of SMP Cokroaminoto Luwuk students. By applying interview techniques and summarizing the results of video recordings, it can be concluded that online games have a significant impact in improving English language skills. The effect is manifested in students' ability to learn and practice English language skills, including speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills. Therefore, games become an effective means of learning and developing English language skills for participants, helping them increase their proficiency in the language.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the types of English Article errors made by students and also to find out some factors that cause students' difficulties in using English Articles at grade 8th students of SMP Negeri 1 Nuhon. This study used a qualitative approach as a research method. The subjects of this research were 10 students who were grade 8th students from SMP Negeri 1 Nuhon. To analyze the data, the researcher conducted test documentation and interviews using the snowball sampling method. As a result of this research, the researcher found that the students made several types of mistakes such as suspicion and confusion done by 7 students, omission by 2 students, and misformation by 8 students. Factors that influence students experiencing difficulties are the lack of knowledge about English texts, grammar, nouns, and also the students' lack of frequent opening of dictionaries, prefer used Google Translate and the difference between Indonesian as the mother tongue with English. In conclusion, this study supports and enriches the theory that has been put forward.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the use of digital learning platforms from educational influencers in improving English speaking skills among students in Indonesia. Qualitative methods with a case study design were used to collect data from seven students of second-semester of the English language education study program at University Muhammadiyah Luwuk. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling, while the data collection instrument was a semi-structured interview. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, which involves the steps of understanding the data, creating initial coding, finding themes, examining themes, mapping and naming themes, and preparing reports. The research findings highlight that platforms such as YouTube and TikTok are effective learning resources for students, by providing access to quality and structured learning content. Internal encouragement, students' willingness to learn, self-confidence, and flexible learning time are important in improving English speaking skills. This research contributes a deeper understanding of the role of digital technology in the context of English language learning in Indonesia and offers guidance for the development of more effective and relevant learning strategies.
