Abstract

This study investigated the changing belief of pre-service English teachers during they did teaching practicum. It was one of subjects in teacher education programs. Belief of pre-service English teachers played significant role as it could influence their classroom practices and teaching outcomes. The methodology of research used in this study was qualitative case study. It involved twenty pre-service English teachers from English Department. They were put in twelve schools which located in four towns in Banten Province. This study employed questionnaire and reflective journal as instruments for collecting data. The questionnaire itself was distributed before and after teaching practicum, while reflective journal was filled by twenty pre-service English teachers during teaching practicum.The results of this study revealed that the changing of teachers’ belief varied among participants. The changing belief of pre-service English teachers covered three themes, which consists of (1) learners (2) learning and (3) teaching, before and after they did teaching practicum. Dealing with the first theme, changing belief on learners, pre-service English teachers experienced more on their emotion specifically on their confident as well as patient. In addition, the second theme, changing belief on learning, it occurred more on pre-service English teachers’ awareness that the classroom reality helped them to test their knowledge and it made them more aware of their personal beliefs about learning. Moreover, the last theme, changing belief on teaching, it took place when pre-service teachers had been exposed to teaching English in real contexts EFL classroom.

Abstract

Big books are learning media that can be used as learning resources by presenting of contextual and interactive images in increasing of students' literacy skills. Good literacy skills will make easy for students to understand the meaning of the information provided and they can improve their interpersonal skills well. This research is a quantitative research with a survey approach. Participants in this study are 237 students. Data collection was obtained from interviews and questionnaires, then analyzed using the percentage technique. The results of this study illustrate that using big book-based science textbooks, students' scientific literacy skills can increase. The results shows that literacy in context, knowledge, competence, and attitude are categorized good.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, it is necessary for every educational institution to carry out online learning at home. To increase student achievement, the creativity of teachers in the online learning process is needed, especially in the use of the WhatsApp application. Teacher creativity is the competence possessed by teachers in teaching not only mastering the material, but a teacher must also be able to be innovative, creative and combine in the use of media, methods, strategies and a comfortable and unsaturated learning atmosphere. The purpose of this study is to find out how teacher’s creativity in using WhatsApp to increase students' ability in English and to know the inhibiting and supporting factors for teacher's creativity to increase students' Ability in English at grade 8-1 of MTs Parmiyatu Wassa'adah. The place of this research is at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Swasta Parmiyatu Wassa'adah. The data collected by the researcher are information that is in line and connected with the formulation of the research problem.  There are two sources of data obtained, namely primary data sources and secondary data sources. As for the details of the results of the study 1) the authors found that teachers in the field of English studies tried to be as creative as possible in every subject matter taught to improve students' English skills, this was proven by the use of all the features on the WhatsApp application. The features used are Voice notes, Audio/video calls, Text message, WhatsApp status, striker, Gif, photo and video. Each application used is adjusted to the needs of the subject matter. 2) The inhibiting faced by teachers in the field of English studies during learning using the WhatsApp application were caused by two factors, namely internal factors and external factors. 3) Supporting factors to overcome the barriers to creativity of English teachers in using WhatsApp through research, the authors found several supporting factors including providing sanctions, using audio features, video calls and documents, using WhatsApp features, registering students to get free quotas, tolerance, and establish communication with the families of students

Abstract

This research focused on analyzing the implementation of the active learning method on participation in the perspective of students in the seventh grade of MTsS Istiqomah. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach to describe the analysis results from students' perspectives in the seventh grade of MTsS Istiqomah about the active learning method in expressing apology material. This study states that the active learning method is the proper method to use in learning expressing apology because it is not only listening to the teacher explain, but students can also take part in it. The researcher interviewed five students from the seventh-grade of MTsS Istiqomah. The sample was selected using the purposive sampling method. To obtain findings through analysis, the researcher arranged several questions to explore and receive information from respondents. The study results conclude that the active learning method is very appropriate to use in the learning process of expressing an apology.Keywords: Active learning, expressing apology, learning process

Abstract

This research was conducted in September-October 2022 at MTs Muallimin Univa Medan to find out: 1) How is the PAI learning process for class VII students at MTs Muallimin Univa Medan. 2) How are the morals of students in class VII MTs Muallimin Univa Medan during the PAI process. The use of research methods seen from the type of research that is using qualitative research with a descriptive approach, in the process of collecting data the author uses interactive methods and non-interactive methods. Interactive methods include role observation and interviews, while non-interactive methods include observation and analysis in documents.. The results of the research on the learning process carried out by the PAI subject teacher, the researcher saw that children or students in class VII at MTS Muallimin UNIVA Medan responded well to the learning process carried out by the teacher, meaning an attitude of acceptance or morals possessed by students at school can be said to be good. But indeed there are some students who still cannot respond properly to the learning given by the teacher. Because the researcher also took a sample of Class VII, maybe there are some students who are still carried away from elementary school. The researcher's analysis saw and concluded that 70% of the MTs Muallimin students' morals could be said to have good morals. Thus it needs to be improved, such as providing additional learning for students and applying learning models that can create an atmosphere that can make the transfer of knowledge run smoothly from an educator to students.

Abstract

Several problems of speaking in SMAN 6 Medan attracted researchers to conduct the research as an effort to help the students in language learning. Researchers attempted to see the effectiveness of Pictionary game toward English speaking skill. This Pictionary game is a simple game and applicable for all levels of students. The main function of this game is building of creative thinking, increasing of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, developing student’s bravery in expression of the ideas and creating of responsibility and cooperative towards the students. Because of this advantage, many researchers conducted this game on language learning such as the effect of Pictionary game on vocabulary mastery and researchers decided to see whether Pictionary game is effective for student speaking skill. This study is conducted by using an experimental design. In collecting of the data, researcher took pre-test and post-test from experimental and control class and examined them to see whether Pictionary game is effective or not. After analyzing of the data using of three tests, researchers found that the students’ score in experimental group was higher than control group in post-test. The calculation showed tobserved was 2.07. The degree of the freedom was 70 (df= n1 + n2 – 2) that means (df= 36 + 36 – 2) at the significance level 0.05, thus the critical score was 1.97. It can be concluded ttable was 1.97. then, the calculation of students’ scores shown that tobserved > ttable that means (Ha) was accepted, and (H0) was rejected. It means there is significance effect of the students’ speaking skill after treated by Pictionary game.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi masalah siswa yang terkait dengan kurangnya keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris di kelas 8 MTS Mualimin Univa Medan. Sebuah survei menggunakan metode kualitatif menemukan bahwa 12 siswa memiliki kemampuan berbicara di atas KKM mereka, dan 18 siswa masih kurang dalam kemampuan bahasa Inggris. Hasil ini tidak memenuhi kriteria keberhasilan yang ditetapkan, sehingga penelitian akan dilanjutkan pada giliran berikutnya di. Pertama, kami memperbaiki beberapa langkah pelatihan yang dianggap kurang optimal. Hasil Survei Putaran II menunjukkan bahwa 26 siswa mendapat nilai di atas atau di atas KKM, dan siswa masih mendapat nilai di bawah KKM mereka. Dengan tercapainya tujuan keberhasilan yang telah ditentukan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Kelas Percakapan berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas 8 MTS Mualimin Univa Medan.

Abstract

Pendidikan karakter sangat penting dalam kehidupan. Tempat dimana setiap orang harus memiliki karakter yang baik dalam berhubungan dengan diri sendiri dan orang lain. Pembentukan karakter juga harus mengalami fluiditas sosial agar setiap orang menjadi lebih baik. Mulai dari tindakan, perilaku, hingga ucapan. Penanaman karakter harus dimulai sejak dini, dari lingkungan rumah dan dari lingkungan sekolah. Di era generasi milenial, martabat sangat diperlukan untuk menghadapi kehidupan yang semakin modern. Setiap orang mengalami mobilitas sosial. Oleh karena itu pentingnya pendidikan karakter bagi siswa dalam membangun mobilitas sosial modern ini, disarankan untuk melihat bagaimana membangunnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan studi kasus deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan wawancara.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari kelengkapan sarana dan prasarana sekolah terhadap keefektivan proses pembelajaran matematika pada materi persamaan garis lurus di MTs. Muallimin Univa Medan. Waktu pelaksanaan penelitian ini ialah dari bulan September sampai dengan November. Subjek dalam penelitian ini ialah guru, administrator sekolah, serta para peserta didik. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini merupakan metode penelitian deskriptif, yakni metode penelitian yang biasanya memberikan penjelasan atau gambaran dan menginterpretasi objek sesuai dengan faktanya dan apa adanya. Desain penelitian ini penelitian etnografi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan merupakan dengan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Secara garis besar penelitian ini membahas tentang pengadaan sarana dan prasarana di MTs. Muallimin Univa Medan, serta keefektivitasan proses pembelajaran dalam materi persamaan garis lurus.

Abstract

This research investigates an overview of students' difficulties in writing descriptive text through linguistic and psychology problems. This research presents a case study as qualitative research of students in eighth grade of SMP Darussalam Medan. The sample comprised 10 students (4 males and 6 females) through purposive sampling. This study used observation, documentation, and interview. In this study, data collection from each instrument was as follows: document data collection through student descriptive writing and direct interview data collection via video call on WhatsApp. The data analysis procedure of this study was followed by Miles and Hubermen in 1984 which covered data reduction, data interpretation, and drawing a conclusion. Based on the observation result supported by the document and interview through the triangulation method, students found difficulties in using punctuation and capitalization in writing descriptive. The students’ felt difficulty in using grammar lack of vocabulary and mechanics. In addition, the practice of writing essays also makes students skilled in writing. With practice, students will know the difficulties they face in writing to know the quality of their writing. Keywords: Difficulties, Writing skill, Descriptive text.
