Abstract

The application of pure corn flour (100%) as coating material tends to generate a tough texture, thus requiring an alternative formulation to obtain a crispier result. This research aimed to evaluate the physical, chemical, and sensory characteristics, as well as to determine the optimal coating flour composition. The study was carried out using nine formulations, consisting of varying proportions (%) of corn flour, rice flour combined with tapioca flour, and glutinous rice flour. Formulas involved A (60:35:5), B (60:30:10), C (60:25:15), D (50:45:5), E (50:40:10), F (50:35:15), G (40:55:5), H (40:50:10), and I (40:45:15). The findings indicated that incorporating rice flour, tapioca and glutinous rice to the coating flour significantly affected the physical and chemical properties. The proportion of corn flour 50% by adding rice flour and tapioca 35%, glutinous rice flour 15% gave a higher panelist preference value for crispiness, which was 4.36. Glutinous rice flour was able to change the proportion of amylose and amylopectin so that the texture was crispy and not too hard when the product was cooled. The characteristics of the coating flour included viscosity value of 3.29mP, WHC 152.89%, OHC 107.53%, protein 4.50%, starch 69.41%, amylose 18.47%, and amylopectin 50.94%.

Abstract

The research objective  to examine the best concentration of BioBoost and MKP, as well as their interaction, in enhancing the production of kidney beans of the Inerie variety in lowlands. The study was designed using a Factorial Randomized Complete Block Design with treatments including BioBoost concentrations (10 ml/l, 15 ml/l, 20 ml/l, 25 ml/l) and MKP concentrations (5 g/l, 10 g/l, 15 g/l). The data were analyzed for variance and tested with Honestly Significant Difference at 5%. The research results indicate that 1) BioBoost at 25 ml/l resulted in the lowest number of empty pods (1.67 pods), the highest number of seeds per plant (44.61 grains), the heaviest seed weight per plant (15.80 g), and the heaviest weight of 100 seeds (36.29 g), 2) MKP at 15 g/l resulted in the highest number of seeds per plant (40.14 grains), the heaviest seed weight per plant (14.30 g), and the heaviest weight of 100 seeds (34.61 g), and 3) the interaction between BioBoost concentration at 25 ml/l and MKP at 5 g/l  was the best for the highest number of filled pods (15.89 pods) and the lowest number of wrinkled seeds (0.75 grains).

Abstract

Kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris), belonging to the Leguminosae family and classified as C3 plants, typically exhibit slower photosynthesis and lower biomass production under high light intensity and hot temperatures. To overcome these limitations and enhance photosynthetic efficiency, external stimulation of plant physiological processes is crucial. One promising approach involves the application of Photosynthetic Bacteria (PSB), known for their independent photosynthetic capabilities. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of PSB application at various growth stages on leaf chlorophyll content and the yield of 'Inerie' variety kidney beans, and to identify the optimal application timing. A Randomized Block Design (RBD) was employed, comparing seven PSB application treatments: a control, single applications at the exponential growth, flower initiation, and pod formation stages, and combined applications (exponential + flower initiation; exponential + pod formation; flower initiation + pod formation; and exponential + flower initiation + pod formation). The results indicated that PSB application at different growth stages significantly influenced both chlorophyll content and kidney bean production. The optimal application time was identified as the flower initiation phase, which significantly increased chlorophyll a content to 8.51 mg/g, total chlorophyll to 14.69 mg/g, and enhanced yield components, resulting in 22.22 pods per plant, 63.06 seeds per plant, and a seed weight of 24.44 g.

Abstract

Photosynthetic bacteria are used as autotrophic bacteria capable of carrying out photosynthesis independently. They also serve as atmospheric nitrogen-fixing microorganisms that contribute to the nitrogen supply for plants and enable more efficient utilization of inorganic nitrogen fertilizers, thereby enhancing nutrient uptake by plants. The effectiveness of photosynthetic bacteria is also influenced by their concentration. An appropriate concentration of photosynthetic bacteria affects plant growth and yield. The objective of this study was to determine the optimal concentration of photosynthetic bacteria to improve nutrient availability and uptake in order to increase the seed yield of Inerie kidney bean variety grown in lowland areas. The study was designed using a Randomized Block Design with treatments consisting of different concentrations of photosynthetic bacteria (K), namely K1 (10 mL L⁻¹), K2 (15 mL L⁻¹), K3 (20 mL L⁻¹), K4 (25 mL L⁻¹), K5 (30 mL L⁻¹), and K6 (35 mL L⁻¹). The results showed that the concentration of 15 mL L⁻¹ was the most effective, producing 125.19 seeds per plant, a seed weight of 40.89 g per plant, and a total seed weight of 642.54 g per 3 m² plot. Abstract

Mung bean is a legume high in plant protein. Malaka mung beans have about 15% protein and up to 60% antioxidants. However, their productivity is lower than that of superior varieties. This study analyzed how different NPK doses and biofertilizer types affect the growth and yield of local Malaka mung beans, and identified the best combination. This experiment used a factorial Randomized Block Design with two factors: NPK dose (100 kg ha⁻¹ (N1) and 50 kg ha⁻¹ (N2) and biofertilizer type (no biofertilizer (P0) Bioboost (P1) Bion Up (P2), and Extragen (P3). Data were analyzed by ANOVA and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. Soil samples were compositely analyzed to assess changes in pH, organic carbon, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and base saturation before and after the study. The results showed an interaction between treatments on stem diameter and seed yield per plot. The largest stem diameter and seed yield were obtained with 50 kg ha⁻¹ NPK + Extragen biofertilizer. The highest seed yield per plot was 153.78 g, equivalent to 1.28 t ha⁻¹. This yield was 40% higher than farmers’ yields, but reached only 64% of the yield of nationally superior mung bean varieties. These findings provide a vital foundation for developing a cultivation technology package for local mung beans in the drylands of East Nusa Tenggara. By advancing environmentally friendly agricultural inputs and strengthening food security rooted in local commodities, this work will make a significant contribution to sustainable development in the region.
