Abstract

Some studies indicate that a cultural approach is often referred to explain conflict. Culture is the factor that makes a group of people come together, have the same understanding of who they are. This study aims to promote identity and difference with the use of cultural symbols considered an effective way to strengthen a sense of togetherness, and to act collectively in achieving certain goals. The paper is based on original research that emploes qualitative-descriptive approach. Data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews and literature studies based on relevant sources. This work suggests that local wisdom of each ethnicities was able to become the key elements of ethnic group understanding and peacebuilding which was preserved in organizational forms, art studios, culture and brought together to carry out Cultural Titles. The cultural dimension remains important because not all law enforcement, justice and human rights mechanisms in conflict areas have been successful in creating lasting peace between the conflicting parties. Therefore, the use of a cultural perspective in integrating cultural factors in conflict resolution and peacebuilding mechanisms should always be considered.

Abstract

Boarding schools combine the residences of students in school institutions away from home and family, religiously taught and taught several subjects according to the educational curriculum. This article aims to de-describe the discussion about the quantity and quality of Dayak students living in dormitories today, find the factors that cause the lack of interest of children to live in dormitories, and the Involvement of the Catholic Church in revitalizing dormitories in developing education for dayak tribes in the Border Region of the Diocese of Sanggau. The method used is qualitative with data sources of dormitory managers, dormitory children sons / daughters and children who do not live in dormitories. Data obtained from observations, interviews, and documentaries. Data is analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study found that the quality and quantity of children who want to live in dormitories is greatly reduced. This is because Catholic schools that have dormitory facilities compete more closely with other educational foundations, lack of guaranteed school and dormitory facilities, weak dormitory discipline, the number of housing offers (boarding schools) or affordable parents/relatives from the school location, catholic school fees that have dormitory facilities are relatively expensive, and the character of students who do not like to be bound by rules that are considered burdensome.

Abstract

For the Mentuka Dayak tribe, Pinah Laman is a change in ethnic and religious identity. Pinah Laman in the Mentuka Dayak community is perceived as a cultural space for community members who convert to a particular religion. Generally, religious conversion occurs in this society from Catholicism to Islam. The new identity is given by the term ‘Sinan.’ But on the other hand, the Sinan identity has its own meaning. Sinan is a new identity given to those who have converted to another religion. Because of this Pinah Laman custom, they do not get their tribal rights, such as: performing the Mentuka Dayak traditional ceremonies. This article aims to explore the construction of a new identity from the construction process of religious identity, which involves custom. In addition, this article also explains the form of religious identity construction that occurs among the Mentuka Dayak tribe and the new converts who experience it. Religious conversion is inseparable from the driving factors for the emergence of a new identity and the implications of constructing a new identity due to the conversion process. This article was compiled from the results of research using the ethnographic method. The results of this research show that Pinah Laman is a conversion process of a Christian or Catholic Dayak to Islam. This impacts the social sanctions one receives from one’s social group. For the Mentuka Dayak people, when someone decides to change his religion, he must be willing to give up his Dayak ethnicity. One of the social effects felt by a new convert in the Dayak tribe is that he will be given a nickname or term ‘Sinan.’ Based on the results of this research, the term Sinan has a negative connotation. This is because those who change their religion are ultimately not given the freedom to practice Dayak customs as usual.

Abstract

The criminalization of teachers in the context of student discipline reveals a profound crisis of authority within contemporary education. This article aims to examine the tension between pedagogical discipline and legal mechanisms through a theological-pastoral perspective. Employing a qualitative approach grounded in critical pastoral theology, the study integrates empirical data from international institutional reports and educational policy analyses with normative theological reflection rooted in Scripture and Church teachings. The discussion demonstrates that the weakening legitimacy of teacher authority, the growing climate of fear due to legal prosecution, and the disintegration of shared responsibility between schools and parents contribute significantly to the erosion of character education and the rise of aggressive student behavior. From a Christian theological perspective, discipline is understood as a pedagogical act grounded in moral responsibility and service rather than as an expression of violence. This article argues that the crisis of authority in education is both structural and pastoral, requiring active engagement from the Church to restore healthy relationships among educators, parents, and students. Contextual theological-pastoral reflection is proposed as a meaningful contribution to the renewal of educational practice and the strengthening of character formation amid contemporary social and legal challenges.

Abstract

Religious radicalism is a multidimensional phenomenon arising from the complex interaction of theological, social, political, economic, and educational factors. In pluralistic societies such as Pontianak, radicalism has the potential to disrupt social cohesion if not addressed through a comprehensive approach that integrates faith, ethics, and social practice. This study aims to analyze how Catholic monks and nuns internalize and actualize the spirit of nationalism as a counter-radicalism strategy, while also understanding the meaning of Church teachings in the context of diversity, democracy, and respect for human dignity. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with religious figures across several parishes of the Archdiocese of Pontianak and analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that radicalism prevention is carried out through enlightening Catholic religious education, interfaith dialogue, the reinforcement of tolerance values, respect for human dignity, development of critical thinking, and active engagement in diverse communities. The implementation of the spirit of nationalism not only strengthens loyalty to the state but also affirms the Gospel’s call to live in fraternity, solidarity, and justice. Accordingly, monks and nuns serve as agents of social transformation, embodying Gospel values while enhancing cohesion and peace in pluralistic societies.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the leadership model of the Apostle Paul and its relevance for contemporary leadership amid accelerating transformations across social, political, economic, and technological domains. The current leadership crisis—characterized by moral decline, corruption, and the misuse of authority—underscores the urgent need for a renewed leadership paradigm grounded in spiritual and moral integrity. Within this context, Paul is widely regarded as an archetype of transformative leadership who integrates vision, spirituality, and adaptability in his cross-cultural missionary work. Employing a descriptive qualitative method through a library research approach, this study examines primary and secondary sources, including the Scriptures, theological literature, and scholarly works on Christian leadership. The analysis demonstrates that Paul’s leadership is characterized by five core principles: serving as a divine calling, involving co-workers, nurturing spiritual maturity, delegating ministry according to gifts, and releasing responsibility without abandoning guidance. These principles emphasize collaboration, character formation, and ongoing mentorship, indicating their applicability across contemporary ecclesial and secular leadership contexts. Consequently, Paul’s leadership exemplifies a transformative model rooted in love, integrity, and spiritual responsibility, offering contemporary leaders a paradigm of servant leadership grounded in humility, faithfulness, and moral conviction.
