Abstract

The growing use of digital learning media in mathematics classrooms has not been matched by sufficient evidence of students’ mathematical reasoning (MR) when solving mathematical literacy problems. This study aims to analyze the MR of junior high school students at different MR levels while solving mathematical literacy problems on systems of linear equations in two variables (SLETV) in a learning context supported by a mathematical literacy-based e-module. Using a descriptive qualitative design, the study involved ninth-grade students from a public junior high school in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were obtained through three written mathematical literacy problems and follow-up semi-structured interviews and then analyzed using three MR indicators: finding patterns of relationships and generalizing a statement, proposing conjecture, and verifying the truth of an argument. The results reveal that students’ MR remains limited, with only a small proportion demonstrating medium to high-level reasoning. High-reasoning students are already capable of demonstrating all indicators of MR, but low-reasoning students struggle to develop mathematical models from contextual problems. These findings suggest that e-module-assisted learning can support reasoning, but students at lower reasoning levels still require more explicit scaffolding, particularly for modeling, conjecturing, and justification.

Abstract

Pembelajaran konsep distribusi Bernoulli masih dirasakan abstrak oleh mahasiswa sehingga diperlukan media konkret yang dapat menjembatani pemahaman antara teori dan pengalaman empiris. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan media Bernoulli Box berbantuan LKPD untuk mengenalkan konsep dasar Distribusi Bernoulli serta mengetahui validitas dan kepraktisan produk yang dikembangkan. Metode penelitian menggunakan Design Research tipe Development Studies yang meliputi preliminary phase dan prototyping phase melalui self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one, dan small group. Subjek penelitian yaitu sembilan mahasiswa semester 1 Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika Universitas Sriwijaya yang dipilih secara purposive. Data dikumpulkan melalui walkthrough, lembar validasi, observasi, tes dalam LKPD, wawancara, dan angket kepraktisan, kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil validasi ahli menunjukkan bahwa Bernoulli Box dan LKPD memiliki validitas isi, konstruk, dan bahasa yang baik. Uji one-to-one dan small group menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa mampu mengikuti aktivitas dalam LKPD secara mandiri dan memahami dua kemungkinan hasil percobaan Bernoulli dengan benar. Hasil angket kepraktisan memperoleh persentase 98,08% yang termasuk kategori sangat praktis. Dengan demikian, media dan LKPD yang dikembangkan layak digunakan sebagai alternatif pembelajaran untuk memperkuat pemahaman konsep Distribusi Bernoulli.

Abstract

Motivated by the low numeracy skills of students, this study aims to describe the numeracy skills of eighth-grade students in the Pythagorean Theorem material through the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach with an origami context. A total of 30 eighth-grade students from a public junior high school in Prabumulih, South Sumatra, were the subjects of this study. The research method used was descriptive with data collection through tests and interviews. The stages in this study included preparation, implementation, and data analysis. The data were analysed qualitatively based on numeracy ability indicators: (1) using various numbers and symbols related to basic mathematics to solve problems in various contexts of daily life; (2) analysing information presented in various forms (graphs, tables, diagrams, etc.); and (3) using the interpretation of the analysis results to predict and make decisions. The research findings show that the numeracy skills of Grade VIII students are in the moderate category, with an average of 79.17. The most frequently appearing numeracy skill indicator is the first indicator, while the third indicator has the lowest frequency of appearance.

Abstract

This study aims to describe mathematical representation ability of 8th grade students in learning linear equation using mathematical literacy-based e-module. This research is a descriptive research with a quantitative approach. This research was conducted on VIII.4 grade students of SMP Negeri 45 Palembang with 29 students in total. Data was collected using written tests and interviews. Based on mathematical representation ability test results, students abilities are as follows: 13.79% of high-ability students, 68.96% of medium-ability students and 17.24% of low-ability students. The mathematical representation ability of students after learning using e-module is in low category with 55,17 as average score.
