Abstract

 Wonorejo waters are one of the coasts that receive river flows (DAS) Jagir Wonokromo, Wonorejo, and Gunung Anyar rivers, Surabaya City. The Wonorejo coast is suspected of experiencing a decrease in water quality as there is a threshold value stipulated by the Decree of the Minister of Environment Number 51 of 2004 Research on the level of Pb pollution needs to be carried out because Wonorejo Waters are waters that are drained by industrial waste disposal around the estuary The method used in analyzing the content of heavy metal Pb is using Atomic Absorption Spectophotometry (AAS). From the research results, it was found that the highest Pb concentration value in this study was 0.31 mg/L while the lowest concentration value was 0.11 mg/L. The results of this study indicate that Wonorejo waters can be declared polluted because the concentration exceeds the NAV set by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, which is 0.008 mg/L. The correlation between supporting parameters such as pH and salinity has a relationship with a fairly strong correlation value. The distribution of Pb is uneven due to the weak current velocity.

Abstract

Rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii banyak dibudidaya oleh petani rumput laut di Madura dan pemanfaatannya masih belum banyak. Rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii. merupakan salah satu penghasil karotenoid yaitu β- karoten yang mempunyai aktivitas sebagai antioksidan. Saat ini sudah ada pewarna sintetis yang mampu meningkatkan intensitas warna pada tubuh ikan koi. Akan tetapi, harganya relatif mahal dan kandungan pewarna sintetis berpotensi mengakibatkan pencemaran lingkungan. Sebagai bentuk solusi alternatif yang ramah lingkungan, diperlukan riset terkait alternatif untuk bahan pakan ikan koi yang dapat meningkatkan intensitas warna sehingga para pembudi daya ikan koi tidak perlu mengeluarkan biaya banyak untuk budidaya. Metode yang dipakai pada riset ini adalah meliputi ekstraksi, uji beta karoten, mikroenkapsulasi. Hasil riset menunjukan kandungan beta karoten pada rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii 0,09 ppm dan hasil mikroenkapsulasi sebesar 45,13 %. Laju pertumbuhan dan peningkatan warna secara signifikan pada ikan koi terjadi pada perlakuan 4 % dari hari ke-7 sampai hari ke-21. Penambahan maltodekstrin dalam mikroenkapsulasi ekstrak rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii dapat menjaga kestabilan pigmen β-karoten agar optimal dalam pakan ikan.

Abstract

The Jagir River estuary system constitutes a significant ecosystem in Surabaya that sustains the livelihoods of the surrounding communities. Despite its importance, the river is subjected to substantial pollution originating from domestic and industrial waste. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the patterns of physicochemical interactions between lead (Pb) in the Jagir River estuary system. Water and sediment samples were collected at 5 strategic points, and the concentration of Pb was analyzed using Inductively Coupled Plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The correlation between Pb and various environmental parameters (temperature, salinity, DO, pH & TDS) was analyzed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results showed that the concentrations of Pb in the water column and sediment were 0.1637 – 1.8905 ppm and 0.0735 – 0.2349 ppm, respectively, exceeding the established quality standards for water. Pb content in the waterbody exhibited an increasing trend from upstream to the sea. These results show the salinity and tidal parameters as characteristic features of the Jagir River estuary system, which influence Pb content in water and sediment. The distinct characteristics of this estuary system vary for each region or location, showing that the results can contribute to the development of environmental policies and monitoring of water quality.Received: 2024-08-15 Revised: 2024-09-12 Accepted: 2025-01-25 Published: 2025-04-28

Abstract

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the world. The main therapies for cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy. However, the use of chemotherapy drugs can cause side effects such as hair loss, bone marrow suppression, drug resistance. Based on these side effects, this study conducted research on natural ingredients as an alternative to cancer treatment. Rhizophora mucronata can be used as an anticancer, where people in coastal areas or around mangrove forests use mangroves as medicinal plants, and are believed to have minimal side effects so that they can be developed as traditional medicines. In this study, analysis of phytochemical screening and anticancer potential tests of methanol extract of Rhizophora mucronata stem bark was carried out from Pamurbaya, Surabaya, East Java. In this study, the BSLT (Brine Shrimp Lethality Test) method was used to test the anticancer potential with the LC50 (Letal Concentration) value as a parameter. The results of phytochemical screening of the methanol extract of Rhizophora mucronata stem bark contain tannins, saponins, alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids, anthraquinones and polyphenols and have anticancer potential with an LC50 value of 120.8656 ppm which falls into the toxic category.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has a variety of marine ecosystems that have a lot of potential, one of which is mangroves. Rhizophora mucronata is a species in the mangrove ecosystem in Indonesia. Rhizophora mucronata or black mangroves are plants that contain various kinds of compounds. Antioxidants play an important role in the prevention of degenerative diseases. This research is motivated by the presence of carcinogenic dangers caused by consuming synthetic antioxidants at high doses synthetic antioxidants can function as prooxidants which can increase oxidative stress and damage body cells, so it wants to explore the natural antioxidant potential of Rhizophora mucronata. Rhizophora mucronata root was chosen in this study because no one has examined the potential of this plant that grows in the Pamurbaya area, Surabaya - East Java as an antioxidant. This study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolites and antioxidant activity of the root extract of Rhizophora mucronata. In this study, the antioxidant activity test used the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The results showed that the antioxidant activity of the methanol extract of Rhizophora mucronata root had very weak antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 2604.56 ppm. The antioxidant potential of the methanol extract of Rhizophora mucronata root has an IC value of 50 with a very weak antioxidant intensity

Abstract

Free radicals are compounds that trigger oxidative stress and harm human health. Uncontrolled oxidative stress causes several degenerative diseases. Antioxidants are needed to prevent or reduce oxidative stress. One of the plants with a high content of antioxidant compounds is brown algae (Sargassum sp). The study aimed to examine Sargassum sp.'s antioxidant activity, which is expressed in the IC50 value using the DPPH method as measured by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. It is a narrative review, with literature searches from the Science Direct, Pubmed, and Google Scholar databases. The results showed that the methanol extract of Sargassum sp. has strong antioxidant activity consisting of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and carotenoids. This review concludes that Sargassum sp extract has antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Sungai Gunung Anyar Surabaya digunakan untuk pembuangan limbah rumah tangga karena terdapat pemukiman padat penduduk di sepanjang alirannya. Selain itu, terdapat tambak-tambak yang membuang sisa pakan dan sisa metabolisme ke Sungai Gunung Anyar. Limbah yang mengandung unsur hara seperti nitrat dan fosfat akan dimanfaatkan oleh fitoplankton untuk pertumbuhannya. Masuknya bahan organik nitrat dan fosfat, ke muara dapat mempengaruhi kualitas air yang berpengaruh pada keberadaan fitoplankton. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis hubungan konsentrasi nitrat dan fosfat terhadap kelimpahan fitoplankton di Perairan Mangrove Gunung Anyar, Surabaya. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada pertengahan bulan Oktober sampai Desember 2021. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada sembilan stasiun dengan metode pengambilan fitoplankton secara horizontal. Analisis fitoplankton menggunakan Sedgwick Rafter Counter Cell (SRCC). Sampel air digunakan untuk menganalisis nitrat dan fosfat yang selanjutnya dianalisis menggunakan Spektrofotometri Uv-Vis. Analisa data meliputi densitas absolut fitoplankton, indeks keanekaragaman fitoplankton, serta uji regresi untuk mengetahui hubungan nitrat dan fosfat dengan fitoplankton. Konsentrasi nitrat tergolong oligotrofik sedangkan konsentrasi fosfat tergolong mesotrofik. Kelimpahan fitoplankton termasuk dalam kategori oligotrofik. Indeks keanekaragaman (H’) termasuk dalam kategori sedang. Hubungan antara nitrat terhadap kelimpahan fitoplankton menunjukkan (r) memiliki korelasi lemah, sedangkan hubungan antara fosfat terhadap kelimpahan fitoplankton menunjukkan (r) memiliki korelasi cukup.

Abstract

Biodiesel is a renewable clean bioenergy because it can be produced from vegetable oil. One of the efforts to increase energy independence in the marine sector (blue energy) is to prepare potential alternative fuels derived from microalgae. Microalgae have advantages over other types of plants, because the growth of microalgae is very productive and the growth rate is very fast and does not require fertile land, so it does not compete with food crops. Some microalgae have an oil content of up to 80% of their body mass. Aims to provide information about differences in extraction methods and identification of oil content with microalgae type Chlorella sp. which can be used as raw material for biodiesel. This research method uses FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) and GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) analysis. The results showed that the soxhlet extraction method was able to separate biodiesel and to identify biodiesel raw materials, the percentage of microalgae oil and compound content was obtained. The most dominant compounds are Linoleic Acid compounds, Palmitic Acid compounds, which are dominated by Stearic Acid compounds.
