Abstract

Reproductive health is an important aspect that every prospective bride and groom must understand to prepare for a healthy and quality family life. However, the low level of knowledge of prospective brides and grooms is a challenge in efforts to prevent reproductive health risks. This study aims to determine the effect of infographic media on prospective brides and grooms' knowledge of reproductive health. The research design used a quasi-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest. A total of 88 respondents were selected purposively from four Religious Affairs Offices in Banda Aceh City. The instrument in the form of a questionnaire tested for validity and reliability was given before and after the intervention using infographic media. The analysis showed a significant increase in knowledge scores from an average of 9.02 in the pretest to 18.86 in the posttest (p = 0.000). However, multivariate analysis showed that the variables of age, gender, education, occupation, and income did not significantly affect changes in knowledge (p > 0.05). Infographic media has been proven to effectively convey information visually and increase the understanding of prospective brides and grooms regarding basic concepts of reproductive health more easily and attractively.

Abstract

Complete basic immunization coverage in Pidie Regency, Aceh Province, is still very low after the COVID-19 pandemic, which has increased the risk of diseases that can be prevented. This study analyzes the determinants of parental refusal to implement complete basic immunization in children aged 0–2 years. The study used a mixed methods approach with a cross-sectional design for quantitative and in-depth interviews for qualitative. A quantitative sample of 270 respondents was selected using the cluster random sampling method, while qualitative informants were selected using purposive sampling. The analysis showed that the number of children, attitudes, family support, health worker behavior, the role of community and religious leaders, and exposure to information was significantly related to immunization refusal (p <0.05). Qualitative findings revealed that the issue of halal-haram vaccines and the influence of local traditions were the main obstacles. The factors of the number of children (OR=3.47), attitudes (OR=0.19), family support (OR=0.16), and exposure to information (OR=0.24) were the dominant determinants.

Abstract

Bullying is a serious issue that threatens adolescent mental health and shows a high prevalence in Indonesia. This behavior is influenced by various internal and external factors, yet few studies have comprehensively compared bullying tendencies between adolescents in urban and rural settings. Objective: This study aims to analyze the main determinants influencing bullying tendencies among adolescents aged 12–15 years and to examine interregional differences. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used. A total of 167 students were selected through cluster random sampling from SMP Negeri 1 Banda Aceh and MTsN 6 Montasik. Data were analyzed using logistic regression and multinomial logistic regression tests. The results showed that parenting style, gender, and self-esteem were significantly associated with bullying tendencies. Authoritarian parenting showed the highest influence (Odds Ratio [OR] = 13.78; p = 0.001), followed by permissive parenting (OR = 6.15; p = 0.043), and self-esteem (OR = 8.81; p = 0.001). Gender also contributed, with males having a higher tendency to engage in bullying than females (OR = 2.54; p = 0.085). In contrast, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, nutritional status (BMI), social skills and popularity, and academic achievement showed no statistically significant associations. The study also found that students in MTsN 6 Montasik (rural area) had higher bullying behavior (25.61%) compared to those in SMP Negeri 1 Banda Aceh (urban area) at 12.94%. These findings affirm the importance of appropriate parenting, healthy self-esteem, and sensitivity to gender differences as key elements in bullying prevention efforts.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), especially hypertension, are the leading cause of premature death worldwide, with a high prevalence in low- and middle-income countries. In Indonesia, hypertension poses a major health challenge, particularly in coastal areas where diets are high in sodium. This study aims to explore the efforts made by individuals with hypertension in managing their blood pressure. A qualitative study with a case study approach was conducted in Kluet Selatan, South Aceh, in November 2024. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) involving 12 participants, including hypertension patients, family members, health workers, and community leaders. Data were recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and key themes related to hypertension management. The results revealed that patients had initiated dietary changes, increased physical activity, and practiced stress management. However, they encountered challenges such as financial limitations, ingrained eating habits, and restricted access to health facilities. Family involvement and the use of traditional remedies were found to support hypertension control. Despite these efforts, persistent social, cultural, and economic barriers hinder sustainable behavior change. Limited health education and lack of access to specialized care also affect long-term hypertension management in this setting.

Abstract

Mental health disorders are a significant concern, especially among inmates, as the pressures they experience can lead to dangerous behaviors such as riots or even suicide. This study aims to examine the relationship between hardiness and resilience with mental disorders among female inmates at Class IIB Sigli Penitentiary, Pidie Regency. This observational analytic study uses a cross-sectional design. Data collection was conducted through interviews using questionnaires. The study population consisted of all female inmates at Class IIB Sigli Penitentiary, Pidie Regency. The sample size was calculated using the Slovin formula and selected through accidental sampling, resulting in 60 respondents. Data analysis was performed using logistic regression tests via STATA 17.0. The results indicate a significant relationship between certain factors and mental disorders. Sentence length was significantly associated with anxiety (p=0,038, OR=7,66), where inmates serving more than 5 years had a higher risk of anxiety. Resilience also showed a significant relationship with stress (p=0,051, OR=0,19), with lower resilience individuals at greater risk of experiencing stress. On the other hand, no significant relationship was found between hardiness and depression (p=0,087, OR=0,37), anxiety (p=0,352, OR=2,42), or stress (p=0,086, OR=0,30). The type of case also did not show a significant relationship with depression (p=0,575, OR=0,60), anxiety (p=0,552, OR=2,04), or stress (p<0,145, OR=Omitted). Age and marital status factors were also not significantly related to the mental disorders studied.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that by 2025, approximately 29% of the global population will experience hypertension. The prevalence of hypertension in Aceh Province has increased by 21.5%. The Aceh Jaya District Health Office reported significant fluctuations in hypertension incidence at Krueng Sabee Community Health Center (Puskesmas), an area characterized by limited accessibility to health facilities due to varied topography, including highland, midland, and lowland regions. This study aimed to analyze the treatment-seeking patterns for hypertension and healthcare accessibility in the area, based on a population of 2,759 hypertensive patients registered at Krueng Sabee Puskesmas. Using a cross-sectional observational design, 335 respondents were selected through proportional random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using chi-square tests and spatial analysis. The results demonstrated significant associations between treatment-seeking patterns and factors such as age, hypertension status, education, occupation, income, and ease of transportation and information, while gender and distance showed no significant relationship. Among these factors, ease of transportation (OR = 12.591) was the most influential determinant of treatment-seeking behavior. Spatial analysis indicated that the distribution of health facilities was random (T = 1.212, p = 0.089). This study concludes that demographic and socioeconomic factors, along with transportation accessibility, significantly affect hypertension treatment-seeking patterns, whereas gender and distance do not. The random spatial distribution of health facilities suggests potential barriers to healthcare access in this region.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a global non-communicable disease problem and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Regular blood donation has been suggested as one strategy that may help reduce blood pressure. The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Blood Donor Unit in Banda Aceh City is one of the largest blood donation centers in Aceh Province, serving approximately 2,500 donors per month. This study aimed to determine the association between lifestyle, metabolic, and donation-related risk factors and the incidence of hypertension among blood donors at the PMI Blood Donor Unit in Banda Aceh City. This study employed a quantitative approach with a case–control design. Data were collected from 156 blood donors aged over 41 years who visited the PMI Blood Donor Unit in Banda Aceh City during January 12–17, 2024, consisting of 52 hypertensive donors (cases) and 104 non-hypertensive donors (controls). Participants were selected using accidental sampling. Data were obtained through donor register records and structured interviews, which included demographic characteristics, lifestyle factors, medical history, and donation frequency. Data analysis was performed using univariate analysis to describe respondent characteristics, bivariate analysis using logistic regression to assess associations between risk factors and hypertension, and multivariate logistic regression to identify the most dominant factors associated with hypertension. The results showed that employment status (OR 0.32; 95% CI; p = 0.013), poor diet (OR 11.32; 95% CI; p < 0.001), smoking status (OR 2.31; 95% CI; p = 0.018), moderate physical activity (OR 0.12; 95% CI; p < 0.001), diabetes mellitus (OR 4.11; 95% CI; p = 0.001), hypercholesterolemia (OR 4.11; 95% CI; p < 0.001), donation frequency (OR 0.71; 95% CI; p = 0.009), and body mass index (OR 1.22; 95% CI; p < 0.001) were significantly associated with the incidence of hypertension among blood donors at the PMI Blood Donor Unit in Banda Aceh City.
