Abstract

Background: Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is one of the diseases with high morbidity, especially in coastal communities. Fishermen face a high risk of ARI due to the work environment, poor sanitation, and limited access to clean water. Purpose: To examining the relationship between the availability of clean water and the incidence of ARI in fishermen in Aceh Jaya District. Method: An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 200 fishermen in two villages using a total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression using STATA. Results: There is a significant relationship between the availability of clean water (p=0.000), water source (p=0.000), water condition (p=0.000), ease of access (p=0.000), and the availability of clean water within a certain period of time (p=0.000) with the incidence of ARI. Conclusion: Access to clean water plays an important role in preventing ARI. Efforts to increase the availability of clean water and sanitation are needed to reduce the incidence of ARI in fishing communities. Suggestion: To examine other factors contributing to the incidence of ARI, such as air quality.

Abstract

Breakfast plays an important role in supporting students’ daily activities as it serves as the primary source of energy for both the body and brain. A carbohydrate-rich breakfast can help maintain blood glucose levels, improve concentration, and enhance focus and productivity during learning activities. In contrast, skipping breakfast may lead to decreased energy, impaired concentration, and fatigue, which can negatively affect academic performance. This study aimed to analyze differences in total breakfast macronutrient and micronutrient intake and their effects on lunch consumption among students at Aceh Health Polytechnic. A true experimental approach with a Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial (CRCT) design was employed involving 32 students selected through universal sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires from August 30 to September 12, 2024, and analyzed using paired t-test, One-Way ANOVA, and non-parametric alternatives when assumptions were not met, using STATA software. The results showed no significant differences in any of the variables examined among the 6373 group, the 7383 group, and the control group (p > 0.05). Although differences in mean nutrient intake were observed, these differences were not statistically significant, while fat intake showed a tendency toward significance (p = 0.098). The intervention did not significantly affect either macronutrient or micronutrient intake. Future studies are recommended to involve larger sample sizes, longer intervention periods, and improved dietary intake monitoring to obtain more accurate results.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin secretion or function. If left uncontrolled, this disease can lead to serious complications affecting vital organs. According to the 2023 Indonesian Diabetes Association (SKI), the prevalence of diabetes in Indonesia reached 1.7%, and in Aceh it was 1.6%. Aceh Besar Regency recorded 8,517 cases, with Ingin Jaya District ranking second with 785 cases. Widespread unhealthy behaviors increase the risk of complications. This study aims to identify factors influencing the incidence of diabetes mellitus complications, including income, family support, knowledge, attitudes, diet, physical activity, foot care, medication adherence, and blood sugar monitoring. The study used a quantitative approach with a case-control design. The population consisted of 39 individuals, with a total sampling technique, resulting in 78 respondents. The study was conducted from July 6–14, 2025, using a standardized questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate methods using the chi-square test and binary logistic regression. The study results showed that physical activity (p=0.003; OR=10.360) and blood sugar monitoring (p=0.036; OR=9.806) influenced diabetes complications. Multivariate analysis confirmed these findings, while other variables showed no significant effect. It is recommended that health agencies utilize these results to strengthen health promotion, routine screening, risk factor monitoring, and improve public education on diabetes mellitus prevention and management.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major non-communicable disease and a public health concern because it often occurs without early symptoms but may cause serious complications such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Low public awareness regarding routine blood pressure screening contributes to the increasing risk of uncontrolled hypertension. This activity aimed to improve adults’ knowledge and awareness about the importance of hypertension screening and monitoring at Posyandu Desa Tengah. The study used an evaluation research design with the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) approach. The population included healthcare workers, hypertensive patients, and program documents, with data collected through interviews, observations, document reviews, and medical records. The instruments used were the MMAS-8 questionnaire and clinical measurement tools. Data were analyzed using quantitative, qualitative, and benchmarking methods. The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge regarding hypertension risk factors, prevention, early detection, and the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring. Several participants who previously did not know their blood pressure status were identified as having elevated blood pressure and received education and recommendations for further medical follow-up. The program also increased community awareness of healthy lifestyle practices and regular blood pressure checks. In conclusion, hypertension screening and monitoring education at Posyandu Desa Tengah was effective in improving knowledge, awareness, and community participation in hypertension prevention and control. Continuous implementation of education and screening activities through collaboration among healthcare workers, health cadres, and families is recommended to support early detection and effective hypertension management.

Abstract

Emotional disorders such as anxiety, stress, and depression are prevalent among university students, particularly in their final year due to academic pressures. These conditions can influence daily behavior, including eating patterns, and may trigger emotional eating, which threatens both physical and psychological health. Self-esteem is considered a protective factor that may buffer these effects. This study aimed to examine the relationship between emotional disorders and emotional eating among final-year female students and to analyze the moderating role of self-esteem. A cross-sectional design was conducted involving 222 stu   dents from Universitas Muhammadiyah Aceh. Data were collected using the DASS-21, Emotional Eating Scale (EES), and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES).  Logistic regression analysis showed that 38.74% of respondents experienced moderate depression, 27.48% moderate anxiety, 15.77% moderate stress, and 22.17% reported emotional eating. Significant associations were found between moderate anxiety (p=0.045) and severe stress (p=0.021) with emotional eating. Moreover, self-esteem moderated the relationship between stress and emotional eating, suggesting that higher self-esteem helps students control eating behavior under stress. These findings emphasize the importance of early detection and psychosocial interventions to promote students’ mental health and healthy eating patterns.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is among the diseases caused by the high rate of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection, especially starting from adolescence. The HPV vaccine is up to 66.2% effective when given before sexual activity, such as to 5th–6th grade girls. However, vaccine acceptance remains low due to lack of maternal knowledge, fear of side effects, and other factors. This is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 144 mothers with daughters in 5th grade in the Sukamakmur Health Center area, Aceh Besar. Data were collected through interviews using a questionnaire and analyzed using univariate tests, Chi-Square, and multiple logistic regression (SPSS 26). The study showed that maternal perception (OR=7.341; p=0.001), family support (OR=6.046; p=0.001), and knowledge (OR=3.357; p=0.001) significantly influenced HPV vaccine acceptance. Knowledge, family support, and maternal perception affect the decision to accept the HPV vaccine, while information exposure does not directly influence acceptance. Sukamakmur Health Center is advised to expand health education on the benefits of HPV vaccination and enhance family involvement.
