Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive review to explore technology's multifaceted role in fostering cultural competence within multicultural education. The primary objective of this study is to address three fundamental research questions: 1) How does the integration of technology enhance cultural competence in multicultural education settings? 2) What challenges and opportunities are associated with utilizing technology to promote cultural competence in diverse educational settings? 3) How can innovative technological approaches be tailored to address specific cultural competencies in education? Adopting a library research approach, an extensive exploration of academic databases and scholarly sources was conducted to gather literature pertinent to the research questions. The descriptive analysis method was employed to synthesize and analyze the collected information, identifying key themes, differences, similarities, and weaknesses among the diverse sources. The findings from this comprehensive review revealed several significant insights. Technology integration was observed to offer opportunities such as personalized learning experiences through AI-driven tools, immersive cultural experiences via Virtual Reality (VR), and global connectivity fostering cross-cultural collaboration. However, challenges like the digital divide, biases in technological tools, language barriers, ethical concerns regarding data privacy, and pedagogical integration shortcomings were highlighted. Moreover, the study underscores the potential of adaptive technologies, multimodal resources, culturally tailored digital content, and aligning technological interventions with culturally responsive pedagogy to address specific cultural competencies. The recommendations emphasize the need for teacher training, inclusive design, curation of diverse and authentic digital content, interdisciplinary collaborations, and ongoing assessment for optimizing technology's role in promoting cultural competence within multicultural education.

Abstract

This research explores the impact of Ramadan fasting on student's academic performance and identifies socio-cultural factors and interventions that can mitigate any negative effects. The study investigates three research questions: (1) the impact of fasting on children's cognitive abilities and academic performance, (2) socio-cultural factors influencing the relationship between fasting and academic achievement, and (3) specific strategies or interventions to support fasting children's academic success during Ramadan. A literature review was conducted to examine previous research on the topic, incorporating studies that explored the physiological, psychological, and socio-cultural dimensions of Ramadan fasting among children. The findings highlight the complex relationship between fasting and academic performance, with studies reporting varying effects ranging from negative to neutral or even positive. Socio-cultural factors such as family support, cultural attitudes towards education, dietary habits, school policies, and socio-economic status were identified as influential factors shaping children's experiences during fasting and their academic outcomes. Additionally, several strategies and interventions were identified to mitigate the negative effects of fasting on academic performance, including nutritional guidance, hydration strategies, flexible school policies, supportive school cultures, family involvement, peer support networks, time management skills, emotional well-being support, physical activity opportunities, and continued academic support. These findings underscore the importance of holistic approaches to support fasting children's academic success during Ramadan, addressing their physical, emotional, social, and academic needs.

Abstract

In our comprehensive study, "Madrasah Education in a Shifting Educational Landscape: Navigating Adaptation, Confronting Challenges, and Exploring Prospects for Sustainable Development," we delved into the intricate world of Madrasah education in Indonesia. This research, conducted entirely in the past tense, aimed to understand the complex relationship between socio-political dynamics and curriculum challenges within these institutions. With their historical significance in Indonesia's education system, Madrasahs provide both religious and secular knowledge. However, their sustainability in a rapidly changing world hinged on addressing critical issues, particularly the balance between religious and secular content and the impact of socio-political factors. Our research objectives encompassed a thorough analysis of curriculum challenges, examining socio- political influences, and identifying strategies for sustainable development. We employed various research methods, including surveys, interviews, and document analysis, with strict adherence to ethical considerations. Our study's results, presented entirely in the past tense, unveiled the intricate challenges faced by Madrasahs, including curriculum content, pedagogical methods, and resource limitations, significantly affecting student learning outcomes and the alignment of Madrasah curricula with national educational goals. Socio-political dynamics were found to play a central role in shaping Madrasah education, influencing autonomy, cohesion, and cultural preservation. Moreover, our study identified key strategies, including curriculum reform, teacher training, and community engagement, offering a roadmap for the sustainable development of Madrasah education in Indonesia. Our insights can guide policymakers, educators, and communities to ensure Madrasah education's continued relevance and inclusivity in a dynamic educational landscape.
