Abstract

Peace is a universal value that should be instilled from an early age, especially in children as they shape their identities and life principles. By understanding the meaning of peace, children can become positive role models in their communities. The Center for Social Justice and Global Responsibility at LPPM UKI organized a community service initiative titled Kites for Peace in RT 008 and RT 007, RW 010, Cawang Subdistrict, East Jakarta. This initiative aimed to teach children that peace is not merely the absence of violence but also encompasses freedom, happiness, and harmony. The method consisted of two main activities: an interactive lecture encouraging children to understand and find peace in their daily lives and a creative kite-painting session as a medium of expression. The results of the initiative revealed three key findings. First, children were able to define peace based on their own experiences, such as enjoying quiet time reading or sharing toys with friends. Second, they identified ways to create harmony in their environment, including listening to their parents and helping friends in need. Third, they creatively expressed their vision of peace through kite designs, incorporating colors and symbols that reflect their hopes for harmony. Keywords: peace education, kites for peace, children, harmony, positive role models

Abstract

This study delves into the critical determinants that influence community support for forest conservation policies within the Komodo District, utilizing a logistic regression analysis to dissect the impact of various socioeconomic and demographic factors on local residents' attitudes toward conservation. A detailed questionnaire was administered to 520 residents to capture perceptions of conservation measures, infrastructure development, and community involvement. Binary logistic regression revealed that the visibility of conservation efforts, including natural landscape protection and eco-friendly infrastructure, significantly influences public support for policies. There was a strong positive correlation between the visibility of conservation actions and community support. This includes visible protection of natural landscapes and eco-friendly infrastructure, which has significantly bolstered public approval. Adaptive business operations and local training initiatives were positively correlated with support for conservation policies, suggesting that economically beneficial conservation strategies are more likely to win public favor. Lower income levels were unexpectedly associated with more significant support for conservation policies, which could indicate a reliance on the benefits derived from conservation efforts. Conversely, younger demographic groups and island residents displayed a lower propensity to support existing policies. By aligning conservation efforts with the community's economic and social priorities, policymakers can ensure broader support and sustainable engagement.

Abstract

The proliferation of social media has transformed platforms like Twitter into dynamic arenas for expressing public sentiment during geopolitical crises. This study examines global public opinion on the Gaza and Ukraine conflicts by employing a deep learning-based sentiment analysis model utilizing a Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (Bi-GRU) architecture. A total of 24,177 tweets were collected and pre-processed, followed by sentiment labeling using a hybrid lexical approach that combines VADER and TextBlob. Feature extraction was conducted using the TF-IDF method, and the Bi-GRU model was trained and evaluated using standard performance metrics. The model achieved an accuracy of 88.06% and an average F1-score of 85.07%, demonstrating superior performance in recognizing sentiment, especially for negative expressions. Word cloud analysis further revealed the dominance of emotionally charged terms such as "genocide" and "pray for Gaza," indicating the strong affective orientation of online discourse. The study confirms the efficacy of Bi-GRU in handling informal and contextually complex texts. It highlights the role of social media in articulating collective emotions and shaping public narratives during conflict. These findings offer methodological contributions to the field of natural language processing and practical implications for real-time crisis monitoring, policymaking, and humanitarian communication strategies.
