Abstract

Grammar atau tata Bahasa merupakan dasar dari penguasaan sebuah Bahasa apapun. Tata Bahasa merupakan sekumpulan aturan yang mengatur struktur kata, frase, klausa, kalimat dan teks. Tata Bahasa merupakan salah satu masalah yang paling sering dihadapi oleh siswa. Banyak siswa mengganggap bahwa belajar tata Bahasa itu membosankan dan penuh dengan hafalan. Oleh karena itu, diadakanlah sebuah pelatihan singkat terkat tata Bahasa Inggris di kampus 1 Universitas Harapan Bangasa yang dihadiri oleh 110 siswa SMA dari berbagai sekolah di Jawa Tengah dan sekitarnya. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengalaman belajar tata Bahasa yang menyenangkan melaui pembelajaran yang interaktif dan permainan. Kegiatan ini fokus pada penggunaan bentuk kata kerja dimana kata kerja dalam Bahasa Inggris terdapat beberapa jenis yaitu V1, V2, dan V3 dengan penggunaan yang berbeda-beda. Kata kerja merupakan inti dari sebuah kalimat. Memahami bentuk kata kerja menjadi dasar kemampuan menyusun kalimat yang baik dan benar. Setelah kegiatan ini, terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada pemahaman siswa dalam menggunakan kata kerja yang tepat dalam berbagai kalimat. Para siswa merasa puas dan menganggap pelatihan ini sangat bermanfaat. Selain itu, mereka juga berharap kedepannya akan diadakan pelatihan serupa dengan tips-tips menarik lainnya seputar Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

In recent years, technology has become increasingly integrated into educational settings. As technology continues to evolve, educators will need to stay abreast of new developments and find innovative ways to integrate technology into the learning experience. One example of technological integration into learning activities is the utilization of online games. This study aimed to give an overview of the most commonly used online educational games and their impact on enhancing classroom engagement. This research was descriptive-qualitative, applying both theoretical and empirical approaches. A literature review was conducted to study and interpret the available research papers on the topic. To be more comprehensive, questionnaires were distributed to find out the overview of online games commonly used in the classroom and the students' engagement with this teaching method. The results of this study confirmed that there is a positive correlation between the use of online games and classroom engagement. This study recommends online games be applied in order to enrich the practice of English language teaching (ELT). Further study on the characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses of these games is still required to help educators choose the best game that meets the learning objectives and students' needs.

Abstract

Peran media pembelajaran sangat penting dalam mendukung tercapainya tujuan pembelajaran. Di era digital saat ini, para pendidik dituntut untuk terus berkembang, terus kreatif dan inovatif agar dapat memfasilitasi para peserta didik untuk mencapai kompetensi-kompetensi abad 21. Keterbatasan guru dalam memilih metode dan media pembelajaran dapat menghambat tercapainya kompetensi-kompetensi tersebut, khususnya dalam pembelajaran untuk anak usia dini, dimana mereka belum memahami konsep belajar sehingga harus belajar sambil bermain. Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak usia dini juga menjadi tantangan tersendiri karena sebagian besar guru PAUD dan TK tidak berlatar belakang Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris sehingga diperlukan media pembelajaran yang dapat membantu para guru dalam memperkenalkan Bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak. Kegiatan Pengabmas ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan terhadap guru-guru PAUD dan TK tentang cara membuat media pembelajaran berbasis e-storybook menggunakan aplikasi book creator. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada Desember 2022 dihadiri oleh sebelas guru PAUD dan TK di Bina Insan Mandiri School Purwokerto. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan tingkat kepuasan peserta yang tinggi, yaitu 81% merasa sangat puas dan 19% merasa puas. Kegiatan ini diharapkan mampu memberikan solusi dari problematika pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masayarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi dampak program pelatihan public speaking terhadap siswa SMA di Kabupaten Banyumas dalam mengatasi glossophobia dan meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara di depan umum. Metode pengabdian melibatkan penyelenggaraan program pelatihan public speaking selama 2 hari di Kampus 2 Universitas Harapan Bangsa. Program ini mencakup teknik-teknik seperti visualisasi positif, latihan berulang, dan teknik relaksasi. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan berbicara di depan umum dan penurunan tingkat ketakutan berbicara di depan umum pada siswa yang mengikuti program pelatihan public speaking. Program pelatihan public speaking ini memiliki dampak positif yang signifikan pada siswa SMA di Kabupaten Banyumas. Mereka menjadi lebih percaya diri dalam berbicara di depan umum, mengatasi glossophobia, dan meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mereka. Dampak ini tidak hanya memengaruhi aspek akademis, tetapi juga mempersiapkan mereka untuk sukses dalam karir dan kehidupan sosial. Selain itu, program ini memberikan kontribusi positif dalam pembangunan generasi muda yang lebih percaya diri dan komunikatif dalam masyarakat.

Abstract

As a foreign language, English is very good to be taught from an early age because an early age is a golden age where children can understand learning material faster. However, teaching English to young learners is not easy. They are easily bored, and also easily distracted. Thus, teachers are required to provide fun and interesting learning activities. Therefore, researchers developed media in the form of animation videos to assist teachers in conveying learning to students as well as attracting their attention. This media does not only refer to vocabulary but also listening, reading, speaking, and writing. In this study, researchers used the ADDIE development model (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation). The data in this study were collected by observation, distributing questionnaires, and interview methods. The instruments used in collecting data are questionnaires and tests. After doing research, it is proven that by applying animation video media, the level of student learning is increasing. In conclusion, teachers are advised to apply animation videos in teaching English for young learners so that the teaching and learning process becomes effective and fun.

Abstract

Send-A-Problem is one of cooperative learning techniques in which the students are involved in a discussion to solve a problem. It allows the students to practice together and learn from each other, so it is very effective to encourage the students’ self-esteem and creativity. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Send-A-Problem technique for teaching writing of junior high school students. This experimental study was conducted at a Junior High School in Banyumas, in February 2012-March 2015. The samples of the study were taken by using cluster random sampling. The samples are two classes; those are VIIIE which was treated as experimental class taught by using Send-A-Problem and VIIIF which was treated as control class taught using by Guided Writing. Each of them consists of 30 students. The data was taken from writing test. The data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and independent t-test. The result shows that (1) Send-A-Problem is more effective than Guided Writing for teaching writing of Junior High School. In conclusion, Send-A-Problem is an effective technique to teach writing for Junior High School students.

Abstract

Since March 2020, based on Circular letter dated 4 March 2020, Indonesia has implemented online learning to stop the outbreak of covid-19 virus. This immediate shift requires many adjustments, especially in skill subjects such as English Language Skills. This research aimed to describe the implementation of English Language Skills teaching during covid-19 pandemic in some universities in Indonesia. This research was a descriptive qualitative research with questionnaire used to obtain the data. The respondents of this research were English lecturers from some universities in Indonesia as many as 25 lecturers. The result showed that the biggest problem in online learning was internet connection. The lecturers were required to enhance their technology literacy and to be creative in designing the learning process to motivate the students to learn. Besides, the students needed to be more active in searching learning sources independently. The active participations of both lecturers and students are definitely important for the effectiveness of online teaching and learning. It is expected that this research may be reference for all education practitioners in implementing online learning for English Language Skills subjects

Abstract

People are said to master English if they can speak English fluently. However, speaking is a complex activity requiring many other skills such as vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and so on. Thus, most students feel that speaking is the most difficult skill. Self-confidence is one of the factors that influencing speaking performance. The students’ self-confidence can be stimulated by using an interesting activity, such as being an educative content creator. This research was a case study conducted at Fun English Club of Harapan Bangsa University having a project of developing a YouTube channel by utilizing its members as the content creator. This study aimed to find out how being content creator can improve the students’ self-confidence in speaking English. The study was conducted by observing the implementation of this project, distributing questionnaire and interviewing some members. The result showed that the students felt more confident in speaking English after joining the project. Therefore, it can be concluded that being content creator increases the students’ self-confidence in speaking English. This project should be continued and developed to maintain the students’ self-confidence and facilitate more practice for students in speaking English.

Abstract

Writing English essay requires complex abilities, such as critical thinking and academic writing and students often find it difficult. Beside they are using foreign language, the activities did not accommodate their personal traits and learning styles. This study was an attempt to find out the profile of students’ Multiple Intelligence (MI) and the effects of MI based activities on their essay writing skills. This experimental research was conducted in Universitas Muhammadiyah Magelang in 2020. Then 60 out of 160 fourth semester students of Elementary School Teacher Education Department were assigned as the sample. The primary data were obtained through tests supported by observation and interview. The data were assumed to be normal and homogenous. Based on the statistical analysis of Independent t-test, Sig. (2-tailed) 0.900 > 0.05. The average scores of posttest of Experimental Group also found greater than the one of control group. These concluded that MI based activities affected students’ essay writing skills. The results could be a beneficial reference in promoting students’ essay writing skills in higher education.
