Abstract

This article is aimed at elaborating the relevance of the  al-amr bi al-ma'rûf wa al-nahy 'an al-munkar concept of Mu’tazilah in the context of Islamic preaching in Indonesia. This research is a library research using a historical approach to obtain data and conducting content analysis. This research shows that Al-amr bi al-ma'rûf wa al-nahy 'an al-munkar is the actualization of faith manifested in a system of believer activity in the field of sociology and practiced regularly to influence the way of feeling, thinking, and acting either in the context of individual or socio-cultural. The influential sect of theology in Islamic history very actively carrying out al-amr bi al-ma’rûf wa al-nahy ‘an al-munkar is, among others, Mu’tazilah. In their perspective, the preaching is al-amr bi al-ma’rûf wa al-nahy ‘an al-munkar, meaning the command to do good things and the prohibition to do the evil. Mu’tazilah view that this concept is the fifth pillar of the struggle of life; in other words, al-amr bi al-ma’rûf wa al-nahy ‘an al -munkar must be actively confronted, and the more important point is its preaching rather than its contention. The significance of Mu’tazilah preaching has positive implications to the future development of Islam.

Abstract

The conception of universe has been one of the significant subjects discussed in the Qur'an. Verses of Qur’an have always encouraged human beings to observe and reflect upon on the creation of universe, seen in Islamic teachings as a sign of God's existence and power. Cosmology is a discipline that concerns about the origin of universe. In Islam, this topic has been a heated debate that comes with deeply theological consequences, in terms of tawhid (belief in God). This research is a library research with using a historical approach to obtain data and conducting content analysis. This research aims to explain further the concept of Islamic cosmology of ‘Abd al-Ra’ūf al-Singkili, an Indonesian philosophical sufi master and thinker. Al-Singkili begins his conception of cosmology by focusing on the definition of universe. This study finds out that he defined universe as all things other than al-Ḥaqq. Universe is created by Allah as a sign to know His Existence. Al-Singkili stated that the universe was not created from nothing to being (creatio ex nihillo), but rather through an emanation (fayḍ). In explaining the concept of emanation, al-Singkili used two terms, namely "fixed entity" (al-a’yān al-ṡābitah) and "potential entity" (al-a’yān al-khārijiyyah). Both potentials, according to him, are a shadow of God. The fixed entity is a direct shadow of God, while the potential entity is a shadow of the fixed entity. So, it can be concluded that everything other than God (nature) comes from Him, and its existence depends on the His being.

Abstract

This study aims to see how the concept of Islamic aesthetics in the thought of Abdul Hadi WM. Aesthetics is an interesting discourse to study because aesthetics is one of the five branches of philosophy that relate to values that are contained in something or arise from human actions. Although the values contained in aesthetics are very important and are always relevant in human life, the fact is that aesthetics receive less attention in philosophical studies. One reason is the narrow view that aesthetics is only related to art. Abdul Hadi WM sees an important aesthetic in the realm of philosophy and is related to human aesthetic experience. Islamic aesthetics essentially refers to the expression of religious values and can bring awareness to the spiritual realm

Abstract

Pondok Pesantren Al-Gontory, Malaysia, sebagai lembaga pendidikan Islam, menghadapi tantangan dalam mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai keislaman dengan perkembangan zaman yang semakin modern. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam kepada para santri mengenai sinergitas antara nilai-nilai keislaman dan kemodernan, sehingga mereka dapat lebih terbuka terhadap perubahan zaman tanpa kehilangan jati diri Islam. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah memperkenalkan dan menguatkan pemahaman santri tentang sinergitas antara nilai-nilai keislaman dan kemodernan di Pondok Pesantren Al-Gontory. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah Participatory Action Research (PAR), yang melibatkan partisipasi aktif para santri dalam setiap tahap kegiatan, mulai dari perencanaan hingga evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman santri sebesar 65% berdasarkan pre-test dan post-test, serta tingginya partisipasi dengan 90% santri hadir dan aktif berdiskusi dalam seminar. Para santri juga menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi dalam merumuskan penerapan konsep ini dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Kegiatan pengabdian ini diharapkan menjadi langkah awal dalam mengembangkan pemahaman yang lebih luas tentang hubungan antara agama dan kemajuan zaman, serta mendorong implementasinya secara nyata dalam keseharian santri.

Abstract

This research aimed to understand the characteristics of the pesantren’s culture, which is based on transnational culture. This study utilized a mixed-methods approach, including interviews with pesantren leaders and students and participant observations within the pesantren community. The findings revealed that transnational culture within pesantren is influenced by global Islamic discourses and practices while maintaining traditional Indonesian cultural elements. Understanding these characteristics is crucial for policymakers and educators to address the evolving landscape of Islamic education in Indonesia. Further research is needed to explore the impact of transnational culture on the development of pesantren in the future. The Salafi’s Islamic Boarding School, Zād al-Maʿād, was chosen as the research site for that purpose. The approach employed in this research is cultural anthropology with data collection tools in documentation studies, observations, and interviews. The findings emphasize the adaptability of Salafi pesantren to local customs and traditions, showcasing a unique blend of global ideology and local practices that contribute to the movement's continued success in Indonesia. Based on qualitative analysis, the boarding school is also an agent of Islamic preaching in spreading Salafi’s understanding and a center for the cadre of Salafi’s preachers from a young age. The Salafi’s network can use its program to organize various international programs.

Abstract

Salah satu perkara penting yang banyak disebut dalam al-Qur’an adalah persoalan alam semesta. Ayat al-Qur’an mengajak manusia agar memperhatikan dan memikirkan tentang penciptaan alam semesta, karena di dalamnya terdapat tanda-tanda keberadaan dan kekuasaan Allah. prinsip kosmologi Islam ialah menetapkan keesaan Tuhan dan martabatwujud, yang secara metafisik menegaskan bahwa realitas pada dasarnya hanya satu, namun secara kosmologis, alam yang dapat dirasa dan difikirkan ini merupakan salah satu dari beragam wujud yang ada. Pemikiran Ibn Arabi tentang penciptaan alam menempatkannya dalam mainstream pemikiran Islam. Dalam pemahaman Ibn Arabi makna alam adalah segala sesuatu selain Allah (ma siwa Allah) atau segala sesuatu selain al-Haqq. Ia menggunakan istilah tajalli dalam penciptaan. Tajalli bermaknapenampakan wujud Tuhan pada berbagai bentuk, oleh karena itu Tuhan selalu hadir dalam segala sesuatu. Ajaran tentang penciptaan alam Hamzah Fansuri dapat dihubungkan dengan ajaran tentang penciptaan alam IbnArabi. Kedua ajaran ini sama-sama berpendapat bahwa alam diciptakan dari yang ada menjadi ada, bukan diciptakan dari yang tidak ada menjadi ada (creatio ex nihilo). Hamzah Fansuri menggambarkan tentang proses penciptaan alam semesta yang terus berlaku di mana alam muncul sebagai manifestasi dari zat-zat Allah yang spiritual pada awalnya kemudiandilanjutkan ke fisik. Hamzah Fansuri menyebut derajat itu dengan ta'ayyun. Pada dasarnya, Hamzah Fansuri juga membedakan antara Tuhan dan alam, meskipun Tuhan dan alam adalah sama, tetapi ia memiliki sifat yang berbeda, di mana Tuhan sendiri memiliki esensi yang berbeda dengan alam
