Abstract

In an effort to improve the function of lights in attracting and collecting fish to be more effective, fishing auxiliary in the form of fish aggregating device attractors made from coconut leaves and nets and vertical bait made from tembang fish and squid solution are used in bagan floating liftnet fishing gear. In addition to the composition of the catch, hauling frequency, catch productivity and the effect of the combination of fish aggregating device attractor and vertical bait compared to the control on the floating net are the objectives of this study. Experimental fishing method has been conducted for 20 trips. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the total catch of the treatment and control floating nets, which were 964.2 kg and 445.4 kg respectively, while the average catch was 48.2 kg/trip and 22.2 kg/trip respectively. The catches are pelagic and demersal fish species dominated by the semar fish (Mene maculata), tembang (Sardinella gibbosa), pepetek (Leiognathus equulus), anchovies (Stelephorus sp.), and squid (Loligo sp.). The use of fish aggregating device attractors and vertical bait resulted in a greater number of settings/hauls compared to the control bagan floating lift net, namely 117 hauls and 90 haul respectively, while increasing the production margin of the catch from the treatment bagan floating lift net compared to the control by 116.5%. Key words: bagan floating lift net, FADs attractor, vertical bait

Abstract

Abstract

Pemasangan atraktor efektif mengumpulkan cumi-cumi.

Abstract

Indonesia as one of the biggest capitals with fisheries industry have more than 90% small-scale fisher spread around the nation. Sadly, in some region, small scale fishers not really implement the proper fish storing method due to the lack of space in their vessel and limited technology. This issue has led to a new idea to build a portable cooling fish storage specifically for small scale fisheries. The aim of this studies is to build and test the performance of prototype of portable fish storage. The method used is direct testing by doing several tests such as power consumption test, temperature decreasing rate, and cost simulation efficiently with some condition and variables. The performance test resulted that power consumption of portable refrigerated fish storage around 374,94 - 651,93 watt with temperature decreasing rate of 0,5 C/minutes. In cost simulation, the portable refrigerated can save up to 90% rather than a traditional fish storage.

Abstract

Fiberglass vessels produce considerable environmental waste due to the non-biodegradable nature of glass fiber materials, necessitating the exploration of biodegradable alternatives. Given the abundance of cardboard waste in Indonesia, this study investigates its potential as a substitute for glass fiber in fiberglass boat construction. The research aims to evaluate resin-coated cardboard's physical properties and mechanical strength, comparing them to the mechanical strength standards set by the Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI). Utilizing an experimental methodology with descriptive and comparative analysis, the results indicate that resin-coated cardboard possesses robust, lightweight, and water-resistant characteristics. The four-layer treatment achieved the highest tensile strength and bending strength values of 37.61 MPa and 62.23 MPa, respectively. In comparison, the three-layer treatment yielded a maximum modulus of elasticity of 145.80 MPa. Although the mechanical properties did not meet the minimum standards established by BKI, the resin-coated cardboard demonstrates potential as an alternative material for plywood coatings in the superstructures of vessels.
