Abstract

This Community Service Program (PkM), designed to span one year, aims to enhance the competencies of elementary school English teachers in implementing the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum. The program addresses various challenges teachers face in understanding and effectively applying the P5 concept in learning activities. A qualitative method with a case study approach was employed to assess the program's impact, utilizing data collected through interviews, observations, and analysis of teacher lesson plan documents. The findings indicate that participants demonstrated significant improvement in their understanding and application of the P5 concept in classroom settings during the implementation of PkM activities. Teachers were able to design and execute project-based learning aligned with the values of Pancasila and the Merdeka Curriculum. Classroom observations revealed increased student engagement in the learning process. Moreover, teachers showed greater confidence in integrating character education into their teaching. In conclusion, intensive training and mentoring effectively improved teachers’ competencies in implementing the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project. This progress significantly supports the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in the participating elementary schools. The outcomes of this program are expected to contribute to the development of teacher training models that can support broader educational programs.

Abstract

In the digital age, podcasts have emerged as a versatile tool for language learning, offering accessible and engaging content for learners. Despite their growing popularity, there is limited empirical research on how podcasts specifically enhance language acquisition, particularly in diverse educational contexts. This study aims to address this gap by exploring the role of podcasts in improving language skills. This research investigates the effectiveness of podcasts in enhancing language learning outcomes, focusing on listening comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and learner motivation. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative pre- and post-tests with qualitative interviews. Participants included 120 intermediate-level language learners divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group engaged with podcast-based activities over eight weeks, while the control group followed traditional methods. Data were analyzed using statistical software and thematic analysis. The findings revealed significant improvements in listening comprehension and vocabulary retention among the experimental group. Learners reported increased motivation and autonomy, attributing these gains to the flexibility and authenticity of podcast content. Podcasts are a valuable resource for language learning, fostering both linguistic and motivational benefits. Educators are encouraged to integrate podcasts into curricula to support diverse learning needs.

Abstract

It is necessary to analyze the learners' performance in a foreign language. Furthermore, a lot of teachers still struggle with the exam item analysis. It is employed to determine the learners' accomplishments. If not, the teachers continue to struggle to assign grades. It is intended that they are unable to determine whether the students are making progress. The report also attempts to provide an analysis of the test item's content validity. Finding out if a test is acceptable for the curriculum requires analyzing its content validity.   The goals of this study are to measure the validity of test items for the eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 1 Batangan and to offer information about the quality of English summative exam items. The English summative test items from the first semester of the eleventh grade students at SMAN 1 Batangan were examined for conformity and nonconformity with the learning indicators. The students' answer sheets and the summative exam were the sources of the data. There are forty multiple-choice questions on the test, representing the answers of forty students. According to the research's findings, 31 items, or 77,5%, meet the standards to conform to the learning indicators, whereas 9 items, or 32,5%, do not. This indicates that the English summative test items for the eleventh grade students at SMAN 1 Batangan have a good content validity.

Abstract

Merujuk pada hasil survei Programme of International Student Assessment (PISA) yang dilaksanakan pada tahun 2018, kemampuan literasi dan numerasi para siswa Indonesia berada pada posisi lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan siswa di negara-negara lain. Posisi Indonesia pada tahun 2018 untuk membaca berada di peringkat 72 dari 77 negara, dan sains berada di peringkat 70 dari 78 negara (OECD, 2018).  Melihat tingkat literasi yang rendah dari para siswa di Indonesia, maka harus ada upaya yang terus menerus untuk meningkatkan literasi mereka, mengingat literasi menjadi tuntutan bagi para siswa/peserta didik untuk memenuhi kualifikasi kompetensi di abad 21 ini. Saat ini Kemendikbudristek telah mencanangkan penggunaan Kurikulum Merdeka pada satuan-satuan pendidikan di Indonesia. Pengembangan literasi menjadi salah satu fokus dan perhatian pada kurikulum ini sedikit banyak telah mendorong para peneliti, guru dan praktisi pendidikan untuk melakukan eksplorasi keilmuan dalam mengembangkan berbagai model pembelajaran yang menyenangkan, sesuai dengan ragam karakteristik peserta didik dan mampu memacu mereka untuk mengembangkan literasi. Oleh karena itulah, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan dan pendampingan para guru Bahasa Inggris di SMP Negeri 6 Blora untuk mengembangkan Model Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Berbasis “Critical Thinking”.

Abstract

Kabupaten Kudus sebagai salah satu kabupaten di Jawa Tengah Indonesia mempunyai potensi wisata yang cukup tinggi, baik wisata alam, wisata religi, maupun wisata kuliner. Kabupaten Kudus memiliki kondisi geologi yang dikelilingi pegunungan sehingga terdapat banyak lokasi wisata yang indah dan potensial. Selain itu, latar belakang kota wali menjadikan Kabupaten Kudus memiliki banyak tempat religi yang selalu dikunjungi oleh para peziarah. Jumlah wistawan baik dalam negeri maupun manca negara yang datang ke Kabupaten Kudus terus meningkat setiap tahunnya. Akan tetapi, potensi wisata yang sedemikian besar belum diimbangi dengan sumber daya pariwisata yang baik. Masih banyak staf dan karyawan yang bekerja di daerah wisata belum memiliki kemampuan bahasa Inggris yang memadai untuk berinteraksi dengan wisatawan manca negara. Sedangkan Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Kabupaten Kudus tidak sepenuhnya mempunyai sumber daya untuk meningkatkan kemampuan staf mereka. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan solusi untuk memecahkan masalah tersebut. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris terutama English for Tourism Paguyuban Duta Kabupaten Kudus Paguduwiku), Saka Pariwisata Kwarcab Kudus dan Staf Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Kabupaten Kudus melalui pelatihan bahasa Inggris English for Tourism berbasis Role Play Communication Games. Kegiatan pengabdian  dilaksanakan dalam lima tahap, yaitu pre-test English proficiency, pelatihan English for Tourism berbasis Role Play Communication Games, praktek lisan on the spot, posts test English proficiency, dan evaluasi. Melalui kegiatan pelatihan English for Tourism berbasis Role Play dan Communication Games ini diharapkan para staf  Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Kabupaten Kudus akan memiliki kemampuan bahasa Inggris English for Tourism yang baik sehingga mereka dapat berinteraksi dengan wisatawan manca negara dan dapat meningkatkan pariwisata di Kabupaten Kudus. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa para peserta pelatihan dari unsur-unsur Paguyuban Duta Kabupaten Kudus Paguduwiku), Saka Pariwisata Kwarcab Kudus dan Staf Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Kabupaten Kudus sangat memerlukan pelatihan semacam ini. Kemampuan berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris untuk menyambut wisatawan manca negara sangat dibutuhkan. Hal ini senada dengan usaha yang dilakukan untuk menginternasionalkan aset-aset wisata di Kabupaten Kudus.

Abstract

This study provides a qualitative analysis of a casual talk between two male postgraduate EFL students, who are Indonesian, Javanese, and English-speaking close friends. The conversation, conducted spontaneously without prior planning, consists of 203 turns and forms 23 conversational story sequences. The findings highlight key aspects of casual conversation, including structural, interactive, and interpersonal features. Structurally, the dialogue follows adjacency pairs and the IRF (Initiate-Respond-Follow-up) pattern. Spontaneity is evident in filled pauses, repetitions, false starts, backtracking, incomplete utterances, and frequent use of conjunctions and fixed expressions. Interactivity is demonstrated through turn-taking, respectful silence, occasional interruptions, and discourse markers, with communication strategies employed to prevent breakdowns. Interpersonal engagement is reflected in the use of laughter and chuckles, fostering group solidarity. Coherence emerges through cooperative exchanges, where speakers provide relevant responses and comments. Additionally, negotiation occurs in both interpersonal exchanges and logical-semantic adjustments to maintain clarity and understanding. These findings suggest that the conversation builds engagement through laughter, coherence through cooperation, and clarity through negotiation, maintaining structured storytelling despite its casual tone. However, a key limitation of this study is its reliance on audio recordings, which excludes the analysis of gestures and facial expressions. Further investigation into diverse conversational contexts, participant relationships, and cultural influences could provide deeper insights into the dynamics of casual interactions
