Abstract

In Indonesia, flexible pavements quite often occured prematurely. A good quality of pavement needs materials that fulfill a specification, and sometime also requires additional modifier. Rubber can be used to modify and increase of asphalt concretes quality. The addition of rubber is able to improve shear resistance at high temperatures, prevent cracks, bleeding, stripping, and permanent deformation of asphalt concretes. This study try to investigate the effect of natural rubber latex addition on a binder course typed asphalt concrete (AC-BC) based on volumetric properties of Bina Marga Specification Revision 3. The latex contents used as bitumen substitution were 0%, 4%, 6% and 8% of bitumen content. The results showed that the addition of rubber latexdecreased the optimum asphalt content and increased mixture densities. A maximum of 6% latex content could be used as bitumen substitution, where its Marshall characteristics still met the specification.Keyword : Rubber Latex, Laston AC-BC, Marshall characteristics, Specification ofBina Marga 2010 Revision 3.

Abstract

Asphalt concrete wearing course (AC-WC) is the top layer in flexible pavement. Asphalt concrete is a mixture of asphalt, coarse aggregate, fine aggregate and filler. Many types of filler have been used to improve asphalt concrete performance. In this research, a combined of brick ash and rice husk ash was used as filler. As wasted products, this mixed filler can be used as an alternative replacement of Portland cement due to their similar chemical compounds. The objective of this research is to analyze Marshall characteristics (stability, flow, volumetric properties and Marshall Quotient) of an ACWC mixture containing a combination of Portland cement and a mixed of 40% brick ash and 60% rice husk ash as filler. Ratios of cement and the mixed ash used were 100:0, 50:50, and 0:100. After obtaining the optimum asphalt content for each different filler variation, Marshall test were performed to obtain flow, stability and density values. The result of tests showed that the composition of filler 50:50 gives Marshall characteristics with stability value of 1250,5 kg and air void of 4,846%. The composition of filler 0:100 gives Marshall characteristics with the highest stability value of 1692,9 kg and the smallest air void of 4,533%, which satisfied the specifications of Bina Marga 2010 Revision 3. Abstract

Unconfined compression strength and CBR values of sandy clay are influenced by several factor such as sand and clay content, soil properties, density, moisture content, and gradation. This research tries to figure out the effect of sandy clay gradation on its unconfined compression strength and CBR values. Sandy clay mixtures were made from different percentage of sand and clay fractions. Sand fraction gradation varied from well to poor (gap). Clay was also stabilized with quick lime. The results of this research indicated that the addition of sand and lime into clay increased unconfined compression strength and CBR values, especially after 28 days curing time. The largest value of unconfined compression strength test occurred at mixture with 70% clay, due to the cohesiveness obtained from clay and lime stabilisation. The largest CBR values were found in the mixture with less contained clay. Keywords: unconfined compression strength,CBR, gradation, density, sand, clay

Abstract

Petroleum industry has an important role in supplying fuel necessaries. In process to produce pretoleum crude oil into various of petroleum based products also emerged waste products includesolids, liquids and gases. Solid waste products which found from poduction activities of the industry produce called Oil Sludge. Oil sludge is categorized as hazardous and toxic waste (B3) because the characteristic and the concentration can contaminate the environment. This research aims to investigate the potential of oil sludge as a partial replacement of asphalt in Asphalt Concrete -Binder Course (AC-BC). In this study the variation of oil sludge addition was 0%, 4%, 6% and 8% of the weight of asphalt. The addition of oil sludge decreased the optimum asphalt content (OAC) and increased the unit weight of the asphalt concrete mixture. This is caused by the fine grains contained in the oil sludge. Based on the Marshall characteristics test results, the maximum allowable content of oil sludge that could be used was 4% with 6.65% of OAC and 948,03 kg of average stability value which satisfied the specifications of Bina Marga 2010 Revision 3.Keyword : oil sludge, asphalt concrete, AC-BC, marshall, Specification of Bina Marga 2010 Revision 3

Abstract

Sand of Pulau Bungin is a natural sand that comes from Batang Kuantan River, Kuantan Singingi Regency. The existence of sand of Pulau Bungin makes development progress in Kuantan Singingi Regency because easily obtained, and more economical no need to bring sand material from other area and not have to go through stone breaking process by stone crusher. Based on the Bina Marga Specification 2010 Revision 3, the use of natural sand for asphalt concrete mixture (AC) should not exceed 15% of the total aggregate mixture weight. Therefore, we need to know the efficiency of using natural sand in concrete asphalt mixture (AC) for optimal utilization. This research aims to find out the optimum asphalt (KAO) and to know Marshall's characteristics whether to meet the Bina Marga Specification 2010 Revision 3. The natural fine aggregate variation of sand used in this research is 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 16 % of the total weight of the aggregate mixture. The addition of natural sand in the asphalt concrete mixture of the asphalt concrete base (AC-Base) causes the value of optimum asphalt (KAO) to decrease. On the mixture asphalt concrete base (AC-Base), 5% of the sand content of the 5% content of the optimum asphalt content (KAO) was increased by 6,20% and the largest stability was 3341 kg. Without considering the limits of natural sand usage as set out in the Bina Marga Specification 2010 Revision 3 then the addition of natural sand is still possible in the asphalt concrete base (AC-Base) until 16%.Keywords: Natural sand, asphalt concrete base (AC-Base), a general Specification Bina Marga 2010 Revision 3 and characteristics of Marshall.
