Abstract

Background: Aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a painful recurrent inflammatory process of the oral mucosa. Clinical features of inflammation in aphthous stomatitis in the form of ulcers on the oral mucosa can be single or multiple and have no relationship with a systemic disease. The etiopathogenesis of aphthous stomatitis is several predisposing factors in the manifestation of the oral cavity. This article presents case reports on RAS patients with stress-predisposing factors. Case: In October 2019, A 52-year-old female patient came to RSIGM complaining of canker sores in several places in her oral cavity, namely on the right inner lip, left inner lip, floor of the mouth, and under the tongue. The patient has felt this condition for the last 2 years, but the canker sores have disappeared and reappeared. The Miller and Smith test showed that the score is 42. We diagnosed the RAS patients with stress-predisposing factors. Case Management: The patient was given oral methylprednisolone and becomzed tablet and counseling management stress. Conclusion: cases of recurrent aphthous stomatitis are caused by psychological stress which can cause recurrent ulcers in the oral cavity. Eliminating stress-causing variables is one of the key therapies for these diseases. some patients need counseling with experts in stress management in addition to systemic treatment according to the symptoms felt by the patient

Abstract

Background: Omega has many benefits for the human body, such as acting as an anti-inflammatory, strengthening bones and teeth and helping the absorption of calcium in the body. Increased absorption of calcium so that the formation of bones and teeth will be more optimal. Omega 3 cannot be produced by the body so it needs external intake such as supplements containing omega 3. Pregnant women need this omega 3 intake to improve nutrition for the fetus and minimize caries and hypoplasia in children. Purpose: to determine the effect of omega 3 on CaO and P2O5 as hydroxyapatite constituents in the teeth of mice (Mus musculus). Method: This experimental study was conducted with a post test only control group design with a sample of 16 teeth. The groups were divided into two, namely the treatment of giving omega 3 and the control of distilled water in pregnant mice. Pregnant mice were given omega 3 during pregnancy and birth. Omega 3 supplements use a dose of 0.001 ml. Statistical tests were carried out using an independent t-test. Test CaO and P2O5 as hydroxyapatite constituents in the teeth of mice using SEM. Observation of email brute force results using SEM. Results: In this study there was a significant difference p

Abstract

Background: Tooth development during embryonic period is complex process that needs enough nutrition for the formation of healthy dental tissue. Amelogenin are proteins that are secreted by ameloblast in the secretory stage that are importants in the crystal formation and the regulation of email thickness. Milk consumption during pregnancy can increase the expression of amelogenin of ameloblas cell in the tooth development process. This research aims to determine the impact of milk during pregnancy against the expression of amelogenin protein of ameloblast cell in the amelogenesis.Method: This is a true experimental laboratories research using post test only control group design. A total of 12 pregnant female mice (Mus Musculus L.) are used and divided into 2 groups, control group (given sterile aquades) and treatment group (given pregnancy milk). The measurements of amelogenin expression are done in 18th day of pregnancy period. Data were analyzed using Independent sampel of T-test analysis.Result: The result of this study showed that the average amounts of amelogenin expression in the treatment group are lower than the control group. Independent sampel t-test showed that there are significant difference in the amount of amelogenin expression between the control and treatment group (P>0,05)Conclusion: The milk consumption during pregnancy influenced the amelogenin expression of ameloblast cell in the mice fetus’s amelogenesis.

Abstract

Candidiasis is an infection caused by Candida species, which is the most common fungal infection. The prevalence of this infection increases with the rise in immunocompromised cases, such as HIV/AIDS. This study aims to determine microbiological data on Candida species infection and colonization, including types and susceptibility testing to fluconazole and voriconazole. This research is descriptive in nature. The study population consisted of people living with HIV who were screened by taking saliva samples, which showed the growth of Candida species. Identification of Candida species was performed using Gram staining, germ tube tests, and color identification in Hicrome Candida agar medium. Susceptibility testing was conducted using the Kirby-Bauer method for fluconazole and voriconazole. The diameter of the inhibition zone of Candida was measured and compared with CLSI (Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute) standards. A total of 91 Candida species isolates were found. Candida albicans was the most frequently isolated species (75%), followed by Candida tropicalis (11%), Candida krusei (10%), and Candida glabrata (4%). The sensitivity of Candida albicans to fluconazole and voriconazole was 98.5%, while Candida tropicalis showed 100% sensitivity. Candida albicans remains the most prevalent isolate and is still sensitive to fluconazole and voriconazole.

Abstract

Background: Mumps is an acute infectious disease caused by the paramyxovirus, commonly found in many countries. In 2024, mumps outbreaks were reported globally, with significant cases in India (18,158), the USA (328), the Netherlands (578), and Indonesia (413). The current treatment guidelines for mumps are paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain relief. Purpose: To describe clinical profiles and outcomes of mumps patients treated with methisoprinol in a single-center cross-sectional study. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study of mumps patients treated with methisoprinol was conducted at the Islamic Dental Hospital Sultan Agung, Semarang, using retrospective data from August to December 2024. Mumps was defined by the WHO's clinical definition of parotid gland swelling. Results: Among 35 mumps patients, there was an almost equal gender distribution, with most being under 18. The majority had a history of febrile illness, used symptomatic medication, and lacked MMR vaccination history. There was a significant difference in the duration of parotitis before and after methisoprinol medication. Factors like sex, age, parotitis location, and MMR vaccination history did not significantly affect recovery time. Conclusion: Methisoprinol significantly reduced the duration of parotitis, while sex, age, parotitis location, and MMR vaccination history did not significantly influence recovery time.
