Abstract

The aims of this study were to evaluate the effect of vitamin E (vit E) and black tea extract (BTE) as antioxidant sources in high poly-unsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) rations on blood malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations and the performance of reproduction and lactation of Garut ewes. Twelve ewes on late pregnancy periods were divided into completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 4 replicates. The treatments were control: basal diet without antioxidant, vit E: basal diet supplemented with vit E, and BTE: basal diet supplemented with BTE. The results showed that vit E and BTE supplementation did not affect blood MDA concentration of ewes on late pregnancy, lactation periods, and weaning periods. Antioxidant sources supplementation had no effect on ewe’s nutrient intake, pre-lambing live weight change (LWC), and post-lambing average daily gain (ADG). Vit E supplementation had decreased the milk production, but both of antioxidant sources give positive effect on the milk composition. Nevertheless, the supplementation of vit E and BTE increased the twin type of birth. The vit E supplementation resulted higher lambing rate than BTE, although it had the highest mortality rate of twin lamb. BTE also had better lamb weaning weight than vit E. BTE and vit E gave similar results in ewes productivity on lactation period. In conclusion, this study confirmed that BTE was more effective used as antioxidant source than vit E to prevent the oxidative reaction of PUFA. Vit E supplementation on high PUFA ration reduced ewes milk production but it had similar reproduction performance with BTE.Key words: antioxidant, black tea extract, ewes, lactation, reproduction, vitamin E

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of additional feed with depolarizing katuk leaves on the production and quality of colostrum and colostrum milk in Friesian Holstein dairy cows. There were 21 dairy cows that had just giving birth, divided into 3 groups of 7 each, namely the control group (complete feed), BKD (complete feed added with Depolarizing Katuk Powder), PKD (complete feed added with Depolarizing Katuk Pellet). Depolarizing katuk feed was given 100 grams per head per day as a feed additive. Parameters observed were feed consumption, production and quality of colostrum and colostrum milk. The results showed that there was no difference in the consumption of feed supplemented with depolarizing katuk leaves, colostrum production, milk density, total solid colostrum, Solid non-fat, lactose contents, and protein contents of colostrum and colostrum milk compared to the control group. Significant differences occurred in colostrum milk production, total solid colostrum milk, and fat content of colostrum and colostrum milk. It was concluded that depolarizing katuk leaves could be used as additional feed to increase the production and total solids of colostrum milk, and increase the fat content of colostrum and colostrum milk. Abstract

Kalsium merupakan makro mineral yang berperan sangat penting dalam metabolisme ternak sapi perah dan kekurangan kalsium dapat menjadi salah satu penyebab penyakit radang ambing. Penelitian bertujuan mengukur kadar kalsium darah sapi perah penderita mastitis subklinis. Sampel susu dan darah diambil dari 20 ekor sapi perah yang berasal dari peternakan rakyat Pasir Jambu, Ciwidey, Kabupaten Bandung Barat. Kadar kalsium darah diperiksa menggunakan metode Atomic Absorption Spectrofotometer (AAS), sedangkan sampel susu diperiksa untuk menentukan status mastitis subklinis berdasarkan jumlah sel somatik (JSS) dan uji mastitis IPB-1. Hasil pemeriksaan menunjukkan bahwa 11 dari 20 ekor sapi (55%) menderita mastitis subklinis dan 6 dari 11 ekor tersebut (54,5%) disertai hipokalsemia subklinis. Sapi penderita mastitis subklinis secara nyata memiliki jumlah sel somatik yang tinggi dan kadar kalsium cenderung rendah. Kadar kalsium dan jumlah sel somatik memengaruhi produksi susu sebesar 99% (R2= 0,99). Simpulan penelitian ini adalah sebagian besar sapi perah penderita mastitis subklinis disebabkan kondisi hipokalsemia subklinis serta mengalami penurunan produksi susu.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah membuat data dasar mengenai ukuran puting sapi perah peranakan Frisien Holstein di Jawa Barat. Data digunakan sebagai acuan untuk merancang bangun prototipe alat celup puting sesuai dengan bentuk puting dan kondisi peternakan sapi perah di Indonesia. Penelitian dirancang menggunakan kajian lapang lintas seksional. Data diperoleh dengan cara pengukuran bentuk eksterior puting pada 324 ekor sapi perah dalam masa laktasi normal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa puting bagian depan memiliki rerata lebih panjang dibandingkan dengan puting bagian belakang, berturut turut panjang puting Kanan depan/KaD (6,11 ± 1,42 cm), Kiri depan/KiD (6,11 ± 1,48 cm), Kanan belakang/KaB (4,94 ± 1,37 cm), dan Kiri belakang/KiB (4,88 ± 1,41 cm). Setiap peningkatan umur laktasi menyebabkan panjang puting dari semua kuartir mengalami pertambahan ukuran, dan peningkatan yang signifikan terjadi pada laktasi ke-6 (P<0,05), kecuali pada puting KaB tidak menunjukkan perubahan yang signifikan (P>0,05). Rerata lingkar puting hampir sama pada seluruh kuartir, yaitu 7,66 ± 1,45 cm (KaD), 7,70 ± 1,49 cm (KiD), 7,13 ± 1,38 (KaB), dan 7,07 ± 1,46 (KiB). Rerata lingkar puting juga mengalami pertambahan ukuran seiring dengan bertambahnya umur laktasi. Peningkatan rata-rata lingkar puting secara signifikan terjadi pada umur laktasi ke-5 (P<0,05). Jarak antara puting kanan dan kiri bagian depan lebih lebar (8,08 ± 2,97 cm) dibandingkan dengan jarak antara puting kanan dan kiri bagian belakang (3,02 ± 2,54 cm). Jarak antara puting depan belakang bagian kanan (7,38 ± 2,56 cm) memiliki rerata yang hampir sama dengan jarak antar puting depan belakang bagian kiri (7,27 ± 2,54 cm). Puting depan memiliki jarak yang lebih dekat dengan lantai dibandingkan dengan puting belakang, dengan perbedaan jarak sebesar 0,97 cm.

Abstract

This aims of this study was to estimate the bodyweight of FH dairy cows from birth to first child by knowing growth patterns and creating a standard curve for dairy cattle growth at BBPTU-HPT Baturraden dairy cow in Baturraden district, Banyumas Regency, Purwokerto, Central Java. Data obtained in the form of secondary data from births in 2005-2016 were 1437 tails and primary data were 353 tails. Data were analyzed using SAS 9.4 program with NLIN procedures (Non-Linear) using Gompertz models. The results show that the Gompertz models is easy in the calculation process with the data deviations that are close to the field of data and the models have a high degree of accuracy with the coefficient of determination (R2 ) 99.83%. The conclusion of this study is that the resulting curve of the Gompertz model can be used as a standard growth curve of Friesian Holstein dairy cattle in Indonesia from birth to first calf.

Abstract

Etawah grade does were kept in different environment. Current research was conducted to compare the thermoregulatory response of Etawah grade goat which were kept at 200, 400 and 600 m asl. Measured environmental factors were temperature (Ta), relative humidity (Rh), and air velocity (Va) were measured for 12 hours from 06.00 am to 06.00 pm. Thermoregulatory response included rectal temperature (Tr), respiration rate (Rr) and heart rate (Hr) were measured every day at 6 am, 12 am and 6 pm. Data obtained were analyzed statistically using independent two-sample T-Test and regression analysis. The results showed different altitude 200, 400 and 600 m asl significantly affected (P<0.05) ambient temperature, which were average 30,16±2,88; 27,73±2,45 and 26,63±2,91; respectively. Otherwise, different altitude did not affect humidity and air velocity. Altitude significantly affected (P<0.05) rectal temperature and heart rate, but did not affect respiration rate. Etawah grade goat were comfortable to kept in 400 m asl.

Abstract

Station Lapang Agro Kreatif (SLAK) program aims to conduct feed logistics as an integration among farmers in Mekarharja Village. Application of feed logistics in the manufacture of fermented feed (silage), refinement of biological organic fertilizers (compost), and seeding of indigofera plants. Cattle farmers  take advantage of local forage feed in meeting livestock consumption needs. Breeders understand more about providing feed for the dry season with a program for making fermented feed (silage), making biological organic fertilizer (compost) and indigofera plant cultivation. Breeders are easier to implement because the ingredients of the mixture are fewer and preferred by livestock from color and aroma.

Abstract

Research on the strategy of the development of beef cattle fattening assisted by BUMDES Mekar Pratama aims to identify the internal and external factors of environmental that influence the development of the cultivation of beef cattle business and formulate appropriate development strategies for farmers beef cattle. Data collection is done by questionnaires and interviews. This study includes an analysis of the matrix Internal-External (IE) to determine the business position, the matrix Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats (SWOT) analysis to formulate the business strategy. The data analysis was using internal environment analysis, external environment analysis, and SWOT analysis. The analysis result indicates that the prominent alternative strategy can be applied in developing beef cattle business as follows: Optimalizing and developing the internal ability of breeders resources and utilizing the available nature resources to increase the beef cattle business scale progessively, the recognition about livestock feed processing use compost heap and the superior cattle seed appropriately with the local condition, taking a cooperation business partnership with the goverment and the third partnerships in utilizing rural communities interaction relatively and mutual cooperatively, strenghtening the breeder organization.

Abstract

The activity of making planting media for indigofera plants was carried out on July 18, 2020 in the farm area owned by one of the assistants of the Agriculture Office, namely Mr. The purpose of this activity is to make a planting medium for the seedbed of Indigofera zollingeriana from a mixture of several ingredients, namely soil, sheep dung, husk charcoal and cocopeat. The treatment was to compose organic matter with soil mixture. The results showed that the mixture of organic growing media in the form of husk charcoal, sheep dung, cocopeat and soil had a very significant effect on plant height. The best mix of organic planting media for the growth and yield of indigofera plants and for vertical gardens is organic growing media in the form of 25% soil, 25% husk charcoal, 25% sheep dung. cocopeat 25%. Abstract

Silage making activities were held on July 9, 2020 in the farm area owned by one of the agriculture office's target in Sukamaju Village, Cikeusal District, Serang Regency. The purpose of this activity is as a solution to feed shortages in the dry season and excess feed in the rainy season. In addition to knowing the advantages of silage feed compared to the usual forage and knowing the characteristics of good silage so as not to occur poisoning. The composition of the ingredients used in the manufacture of silage is 70% odot grass, 30% roomy grass, liquid organic supplement (SOC) 5 cc, molasses 15 cc and water 1 liter with anaerobic fermentation process. The good quality of silage can be known from the color, aroma, texture and presence of mushrooms. Good silage is brownish green, acidic, textured crumbs and no mushrooms. Silage is also an alternative feed that has a stable content of carbohydrates, proteins and vitamins. Keywords : silage, fermentation, quality, anaerob fermentation
