Schools in Indonesia are conventional schools where students and teachers do activities which are commonly referred to as teaching and learning activities even though the school is not a place to lure students with stacks of information but also to train in terms of maturity of thinking and maturity of attitude. Now has developed a nature school that uses nature as a learning space, media, and teaching materials and learning objects that can take advantage of nature and can preserve nature for the next life. However, Medan only has a few nature schools. This nature school design uses the problem-solving methodology approach to solve existing problems, starting from the formulation stage, data collection, analysis to synthesis using survey techniques, interviews, literature studies, and comparative studies. So, through the design of Medan Nature School is expected to be able to educate students who emphasize education, character, and skills with the Ecological Architecture design approach where school buildings can maintain the environment to be sustainable, related to the plantation system, animal husbandry system, utility system, circulation systems, building design, and layout.

Abstract

Lodging and recreational activity are essential activities for training, often held at office of Pusat Pengembangan, Pemberdayaan Pendidik dan Tenaga Kependidikan (PPPPTK) Medan. Office of Pusat Pengembangan, Pemberdayaan Pendidik dan Tenaga Kependidikan (PPPPTK) Medan has had one building as a homestead, but as time progress, the demand for this homestead increase because of the increased activity in recent years. Therefore, the expansion of the homestead and recreational space design is vital to support the training activities. This homestead and outdoor recreation centre design use the methodology to solve problems using a qualitative approach and a quantitative approach by following the data and analysis of the surrounding environment as well as the established governmental building guidelines. The implementation of tropical architecture in the design makes it able to achieve efficient use of energy and be environmentally friendly. This can be seen in the mass concept, indoor concept, outdoor concept, structural concept, circulation system, and utility system. Also, this design blends with the local value of the surrounding environment by applying local wisdom.

Abstract

Lumban Pea Integrated Tourism Development Masterplan is one of the tourism development in the Toba Lake Area located in Toba Samosir Regency. In this masterplan, there are several tourism facilities, one of which is the hotel. The hotel design still does not show and apply the cultural values/identity of the surrounding environment in its design. The building is designed in a contemporary form that does not contain cultural attractions in the form of mass, facades, or cosmological values so that it is contrary to the development of tourism in the Lake Toba area which is still full of strong traditions. This study aims to improve the hotel design in the Master Plan by redesigning the hotel. The redesign of the hotel has created a resort hotel that is capable of blending contemporary design but also capturing its cultural side well. The redesign stage begins with conducting a survey, collecting data. In addition, the application of the Regionalism Architecture approach is one of the methodologies used to obtain design criteria which include cultural values, ornaments, forms, and other cultural resonances which are then analyzed and applied to the design. The hotel serves as a temporary residence and recreation facility for tourists. The redesign of this hotel by applying regional values to be a means of education and cultural attractions so that the culture is better known to the wider community and not eroded by the times. Besides, the redesign of this hotel can create a new economic center.

Abstract

Humid tropical climates are areas with high humidity temperature characteristics. This high temperature is partly due to sunlight which is always constant throughout the day, while high humidity is usually associated with relatively high rainfall. Because of this, in general, buildings in this area have a fairly wide canopy or what is often referred to as a shading element in architecture. This will ultimately affect the thermal comfort of buildings in the humid tropics. In this study the authors tried to look at the two main factors that shape thermal comfort, namely the level of temperature and humidity. The author will compare three types of outdoor spaces, namely sheltered outdoor spaces with walls on one side, shaded rooms without walls and outdoor spaces without shade. The research was conducted by measuring temperature and humidity simultaneously at the three locations. Measurements were carried out for two weeks, at five different times with an interval of two hours. The results obtained show that there are significant differences in temperature and humidity between open spaces and shaded spaces. Where the shaded room has lower temperature and humidity. As for other shaded rooms, it is known that shaded rooms without walls have lower temperature and humidity.

Abstract

Sibolga has good tourism potential because many beautiful beaches can compete with other countries such as Japan, Korea, and Singapore. However, Sibolga is still far behind these countries, the city of Sibolga will be more beautiful if taken care of the cleanliness of the beach. A tourist attraction requires a building that can accommodate by providing lodging services and other facilities that can support tourism activities. The beach is an area that is very vulnerable to natural damage caused by humans themselves, who are less critical in preserving the environment. Therefore we need a building with a design that can provide environmental insight to the broader community. To answer these problems, the construction of a resort hotel with a green architectural theme will accommodate tourists on vacation. Not only that, a design following the characteristics of tourists is needed to create an appropriate room typology. In addition, the application of the green architectural theme in buildings can have a good influence on the community. Providing environmental examples, will open up public insight and enable to reduction of the impact of damage and maximization of natural resources. To realize an environmentally friendly building is to save energy by using renewable energy such as the use of windmills because the speed of the air on the floor can rotate the windmill turbine so that it can produce renewable energy or by using solar panels that capture the heat of sunlight, electrical energy to produce renewable electricity. It requires environmentally friendly materials.
