Abstract

Abstract. The development of digital technology has significantly changed the business landscape. The emergence of new business models provides a greater potential to become more profitable. Therefore, many companies tread the path towards transformation through the adoption and use of digital technologies to catch the opportunities. Unfortunately, many companies fail to understand that the use of digital technologies requires different preparations. One of them is the requirement of an adequate level of digital readiness. The measurement of digital readiness is hindered due to the absence of a reliable, valid and specific model in measuring this construct. As a result, in order to measure the digital readiness of their employees, many companies are applying the existing technology readiness models which can be found in the current literature. This paper aims to provide a viewpoint of the adequacy of existing models for digital readiness measurement with a conception that digital readiness is not only a perception of a digital as an independent object but also as an integrated object. Keywords: Digital technology, digital transformation, digital readiness, readiness model

Abstract

The emergence of internet-based electronic commerce offers considerable opportunities for companies to expand their customer base, enter new product markets, and rationalize their business. The Indonesian government has initiated and implemented a series of plans and activities to promote technology use to increase SMEs’ performance. Despite such efforts, technology adoption rate are still low. Therefore, it is important to understand the factors affecting an entrepreneurs’ decision on internet adoption, by measuring technology readiness (TR). The purpose of this study is to investigate TR and the extent to which E-commerce is adopted amongst entrepreneurs. This study is replication of Parasuraman’s study on the Technology Readiness Index (TRI). Questionnaires were distributed using a convenience sampling method to 190 entrepreneurs of SME in Bandung city. The findings indicate that entrepreneurs are moderate in terms of their TR. There are significant differences in terms of TR across entrepreneurs’ backgrounds (gender, age, education, and income). In relation to internet adoption by those surveyed, as their use of media promotion is still low, there were only 36.3 percent who adopted it. The results clearly indicate the need to provide support to SMEs to adopt and use e-commerce. These results have implications not only for managers of SMEs but also for government agencies in developing countries such as Indonesia. The findings have implications for researchers and practitioners by identifying TR drivers (optimism and innovativeness), and barriers (discomfort and insecurity), that contribute to effectively leveraging the Internet in an important area for SMEs.

Abstract

The objective of this study is trying to develop a comprehensive model referring to previous research of Hwang and Griffith's model of intention to participate in Collaborative Consumption (CC). The study applied exploratory research design which implements previous researches regarding online collaborative consumption focusing on a study by Hwang and Griffith. Hwang and Griffith's model of intention to participate in Collaborative Consumption (CC) is unique in that it recognizes both attitudes and sympathy as the primary predictors of the intention to use the CC platform. The model is also relevant to CC as it encompasses different values, which are utilitarian, hedonic and symbolic. This Study results in a comprehensive model which incorporating several variables from previous studies, such as online initial trusts and perceived behavioral control. We conclude that by trying to put Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) will enrich the global-scale model from the higher point of view besides the cognitive perception itself. Moreover, this conceptual model is developed as a suggestion for future research as well as the implementation of more sophisticated statistical analysis method should be included. Abstract

This research explored the commuting mode preferences of students living near Institut Teknologi Bandung when a new mode of transportation (i.e., carpool) is introduced to the selection list. Six alternative modes were presented: minibus, car, motorcycle, car-based ride-sourcing, motorcycle-based ride-sourcing, and carpool. The data collection process was conducted using a questionnaire-based stated-preferences survey. It included eight sets of labeled scenarios with a number of attributes: travel time, travel cost, waiting time, transfer amount, access and egress time, frequency, congestion time, baggage cost, and parking cost. A total of 1416 observations were acquired for further analysis. A mixed logit (MXL) model with random cost parameter and random error components was used. From the MXL results, we found that travel cost had no significant influence on the selection of commuting mode among students. This result was unforeseen given the characteristics of Indonesian consumers, who are notoriously sensitive to price. However, based on the results for several significant attributes of carpool as well as from the value of travel time savings and demand calculation, we suggest that carpooling is a valid alternative transport mode for campus commuting. As a pioneer study on student commuting mode selection, this study provided valid and dependable evidence on how students around ITB main campus choose their transportation methods. Keywords. angkutan bersama, mahasiswa  ITB, mixed logit, elastisitas, nilai waktu.

Abstract

Although many studies have focused on consumer behavior, a summary of constructs specialized in switching behavior is unexplored. The research aimed to enlarge an extensive and updated overview of customer switching behavior in the service industry. The Systematic Literature Review (SLR) technique evaluated 35 scientific papers released from 2011 to 2021 to analyze drivers, mediating factors, moderating factors, and outcomes related to customer switching behavior. The results improve the understanding and outcome of the drivers to retain consumers. First, the drivers (independent variables) consist of social factors, firm factors, customer behavior, and cost. Second, mediating factors include switching cost, experiential psychological states, inertia, emotion, and consumer perception. Third, moderating constructs have mooring factors, satisfaction, and inertia. Surprisingly, inertia appears in both mediating and moderating variables. The difference depends on service context. Last, outcomes consist of customers’ responses, low satisfaction, and low loyalty. The research contributes to theoretical and managerial implications for sustainable planning by making an overview of several service models. In addition, it includes the drivers of switching behavior in the service industry. Furthermore, the framework offers possibilities and issues for future research and moves the focus from the conventional service domain to social networking that refers to the online platform.

Abstract

Collaborative consumption (CC) is the new business model which overlaps with the concept of sharing economy (SE). However, CC has some unique characteristics that are not found in SE. This study aims to compare the two based on three dimensions: compensation, ownership, and platform. E- Commerce (EC) is included into the comparison in order to show that CC is actually a combination of SE and EC, thus covering a larger set than the other two concepts. The method used in this study is the literature study. The methods used CC concept manually and VOSviewer software to reassure and explore the unique characteristics of CC in comparison with SE and EC. The positioning map based on two dimensions: compensation and platform generate six business models that can be represented the characteristic of CC, SE, and EC. The six models are: (1) platform-based and monetary compensation; (2) platform-based and non-monetary compensation; (3) platform-based and without compensation; (4) non-platform-based and monetary compensation; (5) non-platform-based and non-monetary compensation; (6) non-platform-based and without compensation. The last dimension is ownership describe that CC activity is including exchange-based and access-based activity, while SE provides access-based activity only and EC offering exchange-based activity. The study also aims to discover the unique characteristics of CC that will be used as the basis for developing a future research agenda of CC.

Abstract

It is important for marketers to understand how innovators respond to the introduction of new products. This paper investigates consumer innovativeness (CI) from meta-analysis study as suggested by Nasution and Garnida [2011] and examines the simultaneous impacts of CI on new product adoption. Nasution and Garnida [2010] proposed three different perspectives in conceptualizing the CI model. First, the generalist stream that represents a generalized personality trait that engenders consumers to adopt new product. Second, the particularist stream that focuses on product adoption behavior within a specific domain of interest. Third, the integrator perspective that proposes to integrate these two streams by putting domain-specific innovativeness as a mediating factor in relationship between general innovativeness trait and new product adoption.A structural equation model is used to test hypotheses using empirical data from 607 respondents in electronic products adoption. The result shows that the integrator perspective provides the best model in representing the empirical data. The finding of the integrator perspective reveals that domain specific CI mediates the relationship between general innovativeness trait and new product adoption. Specifically, subjective knowledge and hedonic idea shopping enhances the actuality of new products. The findings provide an explanation to the less than consistent relationship between consumer innovativeness and new product adoption. However, a single research context of electronic products and student sample may become one of the limitations and future studies needed to replicate the perspective of CI in different research contexts for greater generalizability and the use of non-student sample. The findings have implications for the innovation adoption theory, for managers involved in the introduction of new products, and for future research on innovation adoption.

Abstract

Todays situations force telecomunication company to continuously evaluate, select and prioritize its product portfolio in order to determine the strategically important products. An analysis of critical success factors that determine product’s strategic importance acts as a good introduction to review and manage the product portfolio as well as to seek ways to develop the product. To achieve this, the company is required to have good alliances and collaborations between departments, develop a clear focus and seek innovative ways of doing business, particularly between marketing and product divisions. This study analyzed the alignment between product and marketing divisions of a telecommunication company in Indonesia, in determining the company’s strategic products. The results indicated that both divisions agreed on using financial performance and revenue as the most important criteria and sub-criteria for identifying strategic product. However, the divisions also faced some different visions in selecting alternative criteria. The Product divisions were more focused on technical spesification of product, while the Marketing division were more oriented on customer and market conditions. The study reported the consequences of these difference in practice.
