Abstract

The research explores the packaging design general condition at Kabupaten Kediri. The purpose of this research is to get a clear description from many parts like: producer, seller and consumer about Kabupaten Kediri’s products and packaging design these days. The research used qualitative method through deep interview with key person, open questioner and supported by quantitative method based on questioner. Hopefully, this research data and fact’s could be useful for every part especially micro industry’s reference to develop their product quantity and their packaging design quality.

Abstract

Sudah sejak lama%2C masyarakat mengkonsumsi mie instant. Di Korea mi instan yang disebut Ramyon%2C adalah salah satu makanan yang popular dan banyak dijual di toko-toko kecil%2C supermarket%2C restoran dan kantin. Mi instan yang terkenal di Korea diproduksi oleh Nong Shim Co.%2C Ltd. Di Indonesia%2C kebanyakan orang mengkonsumsi mi instan dengan alasan praktis%2C cepat saji dan lain sebagainya. Indomie%2C yang diproduksi oleh PT. Indofood adalah merk nomor satu dan menjadi pemimpin pasar pada pasar mi instan. Dalam studi komparasi antara dua merk terkenal ini%2C perlu diketahui seberapa jauh peran desain kemasan dalam menarik minat konsumen terhadap pilihan merk. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : For a long time%2C people have consumed the instant noodle. In Korea%2C instant noodle%2C which is called Ramyon%2C is one of popular food and it is often seen in the retail shop%2C supermarket%2C restaurant and cafeteria. Instant noodle that has a famous brand in Korea is produce by Nong Shim Co.%2C Ltd. In Indonesia%2C many people have consumed the instant noodle with practice reason%2C fast serving%2C and etc. Indomie%2C produced by PT. Indofood%2C is the number one brand and become the market leader of instant noodle. Abstract

As the computer becomes a trend%2C interactive multimedia design can be one media to communicate the cultural knowledge. A folktale can be a one of the powerful materials to show a countryÂ’s culture. The folktale content can be understood effectively by implementing some cultural information background. The main aim of using the local content is to give a vision of the richness culture through graphic design in interactive multimedia technology. By implementing local graphic design based on the cultural background%2C user can have different feeling about the graphic style and the Indonesian richness culture. This method can also help the user to understand the interactive multimedia content easily. Finally%2C graphic design with local content is very effective for a transferring the richness culture. In order to make a good interactive multimedia design content based on a cultural background%2C a designer should need to understand about users%2C culture%2C technology and the whole design process. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Seiring dengan berkembangnya penggunaan komputer menjadi suatu trend%2C interaktif multimedia desain dapat menjadi suatu media untuk mengkomunikasikan suatu pengetahuan mengenai suatu kebudayaan. Cerita rakyat%2C dapat merupakan kekuatan untuk menunjukan budaya suatu negara. Isi dari suatu cerita rakyat dapat dimengerti secara efektif dengan implementasi beberapa latar belakang budaya. Tujuan utama dari penggunaan muatan lokal adalah untuk memberikan suatu visi tentang kekayaan budaya melalui desain grafis dalam teknologi interaktif multimedia. .Dengan mengimplementasikan desain grafis lokal berdasar pada latar belakang budaya%2C pengguna multimedia dapat mempunyai perasaan yang berbeda terhadap gaya desain dan kekayaan budaya Indonesia. Metode ini diharapkan juga dapat membantu pengguna untuk mengerti isi suatu interaktif multimedia secara mudah. Pada akhirnya%2C dapat dikatakan bahwa muatan lokal sangatlah bermanfaat untuk mentranfer pengetahuan tentang kekayaan budaya. Abstract

High profit income has attracted South Asian countries to compete in the fields of tourism marketing. Destination branding as a differentiating factor is an alternative approach in marketing communication. The purpose of this research is to make a comparison study of destination branding application in Singapore's, Malaysia's and Indonesia's tourism official websites. Destination branding in websites as part of promotion campaigns is a strategy used by each country to promote tourism to consumers worldwide. This research uses qualitative method, and involves experts in the fields of Information Technology (IT) and Visual Communication Design. Each website's elements contributes in the success of a country's destination branding and influences its brand image.

Abstract

Service Learning sebagai suatu metode pembelajaran yang diimplementasikan ke dalam mata kuliah desain kemasan di jurusan Desain Komunikasi Visual Universitas Kristen Petra Surabaya Indonesia. Sebuah proses yang hasilnya bervariasi dan akan dijelaskan di dalam artikel ini. Service Learning sangat cocok diimplementasikan di Indonesia; karena masih banyaknya pengusaha yang membutuhkan sesuatu untuk menaikkan daya jual produknya. Mata kuliah desain kemasan mencoba untuk memecahkan masalah tersebut. Di dalam mata kuliah ini%2C mahasiswa dapat belajar%2C membantu melalui sebuah proses dan mereka dapat mengalami pembelajaran yang nyata untuk memberikan pelayanan kepada masyarakat umum dan pada akhir pelajaran mahasiswa dapat mempunyai portfolio. Di dalam tulisan ini penulis mencoba menjelaskan proses keseluruhan%2C keuntungan dan kerugian%2C segi-segi positif dan negatif dan prospek ke depan penerapan Service Learning secara umum di Indonesia dan khususnya di Surabaya. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Service Learning as a new kind of leaning method was implemented in packaging design course at Visual Communication Design major of Petra Christian University Surabaya- Indonesia. The causes were various%2C and are explained in this study. Service Learning is suitable to be implemented in Indonesia; especially because there are a lot of low economic micro businesses these days that need to increase their sales. One of the courses that can solve this problem is through packaging design. Students can learn%2C help through the process%2C and they can have actual learning for these services and at the end of the lesson they can get their portfolio. This study tries to explain the whole process%2C benefit and loss%2C positive and negative of the implementation and the further prospect of Service Learning implementation in Indonesia especially in Surabaya. Abstract

We see an opportunity to cultivate natural potentials in the Blitar Regency to be used as a means of improving then community’s welfare. One of the possible uses of the natural materials is the manufacture of eco-print products. The purpose of this research is to implement eco-print technique in producing eco-print products that will benefit in improving the welfare of the community. This community empowerment project involves 68 students that are divided into seven groups and are prepared in a Service-Learning method. There are some stages that the students go through in implementing this program outside the classroom, namely: learning the eco-print technique, practicing, providing training for the community, and innovating stages. Through this method of learning, students learn how to educate themselves and the community. The results of these trainings are eco-print motifs produced from the collaboration between students and the district community, eco-print motifs produced by the community, and the students’ innovative products.

Abstract

The study examined the meanings of the texts on the packaging of jamu for women and revealed its proposed ideology. As a health product, information on the design of the packaging of jamu is not only as a means to inform consumers of the product, but also as a "tool" for manufacturers to construct meaning and convey their message and ideology. By using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, the researchers analyzed the texts and uncovered the denotative and connotative meanings.   The findings showed that the texts on the packaging of jamu for women implies ambivalent meanings between ‘jamu’ and ‘medicine’, ‘traditional’ and ‘modern’, ‘local’ and ‘global’,   ‘empirical’   and   ‘science’,   ‘natural’   and   ‘cultural’,   ‘feminine’   and ‘masculine’. The existence of an ideology of femininity and the frequent use of medical discourses that influences the construction of the texts were evident.

Abstract

Advertising is a promotional medium that is still considered important today. There is a series of advertisements that caught our attention because they were viral in the community, namely the Sebelum Berbuka and Selamat Berbuka of the Ramadan version of Indomie goreng. Ads that are displayed without displaying this product are very contextual to the situation of Ramadan 2020, especially at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. This research tries to reveal the meaning conveyed through these advertisements by looking in more detail at the elements of icons, indexes and symbols. The research method uses Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic analysis, by identifying, analyzing and classifying icons, indexes and symbols with the aim of expressing the meaning the advertisement that wants to convey. The meaning construction created by Indomie advertisements in the month of Ramadan is different from most instant noodle advertisements in general. Even though the ultimate goal of advertising is still to sell products, from this analysis it is found that there are other messages that are very contextual, namely: an invitation to fast with good intentions and during this Covid-19 audiences are invited to stay at home. This ads seems to understand the needs of the target audience, especially young people. The absence of advertised products makes these products present in the minds of consumers. This is interpreted as a norm of politeness and respect for Muslims who fast in Ramadan.

Abstract

Program studi Desain Komunikasi Visual (DKV) tidak bisa lepas dalam ruang multi disiplin ilmu, teknologi dan industri. Masa pandemi ini ”memaksa” dunia pendidikan Desain Komunikasi Visual untuk beradaptasi dengan kondisi yang disebut dengan new normal ini. Metode pembelajaran yang tadinya dilakukan secara manual saat ini berubah menjadi digital. Bagaimanapun juga kualitas pembelajaran harus dapat ditingkatkan dengan fokus kepada outcome, dimana kontribusi civitas akademika diharapkan bisa lebih berdampak ke masyarakat. Prodi DKV sejak tahun 2006 telah melihat perlunya mahasiswa beraktivitas di luar kampus dan mendedikasikan ilmunya sekaligus menggali ilmu dari dunia luar lewat program yang dinamakan Service-Learning (S-L). Service-Learning adalah suatu program dimana mahasiswa belajar sekaligus memberikan pelayanan kepada masyarakat dan dalam prosesnya membutuhkan refleksi. Proses ini melibatkan kolaborasi dengan berbagai pihak, baik dari mahasiswa, UMKM, dosen dan juga industri. Melalui kurikulum baru, prodi DKV Universitas Kristen Petra mengembangkan Outcome Based Education Leadership Enhancement Program (OBE LEAP) yang memberikan kebebasan pada mahasiswa untuk memilih jalur minat pada tugas akhirnya, sehingga Service-Learning yang dulunya hanya dilakukan di mata kuliah, saat ini banyak diangkat sebagai tugas akhir. Pemanfaatan media digital menjadi suatu keharusan untuk menggantikan cara-cara yang konvensional seperti diskusi dan konsultasi dengan tatap muka, pameran dan penjualan. Media digital ternyata dapat memberikan berbagai inovasi dan kreativitas  yang selain berfungsi sebagai sarana komunikasi dapat memberikan nilai ekonomis. Bahkan peran media digital dapat membuat Service-Learning ini berkelanjutan.

Abstract

As an archipelago, Indonesia is rich in cultures that exist and grow in its unique regions. It could be influenced by people's habits, thoughts, acts, and geographical characteristics, creating certain values, rec-ognized as local wisdom. Gresik, a small city at the edge of East Java northern coast, has distinctive features; one of them is its traditional snack: Pudak. Traditional snacks are typical because they can be found only in specific regions. As a traditional snack, Pudak has a unique package made of natural material, that is ope. As a cultural product, Pudak and its packaging have interesting local values. This research shows that the making process, packaging materials, and packaging process of Pudak which are the local wisdom and the identity of Gresik. This identity is important because in this globalization era, many people do not know or even care about the cultural meaning of traditional snacks.
