Abstract

In this paper, a neural networks training based on Sequential Extended Kalman Filtering (SEKF) analysis for extraction and classifi cation of recorded EEG signal is proposed to improved feature extraction, classifi cation accuracy, and communication rate as well. The robustness of the SEKF against background noises has been evaluated by comparing the separation performance indices of the SEKF with well known algorithms (i.e., BPNN, JADE,and SOBI). A statistically signifi cant improvement was achieved with respect to the rates provided by raw data.

Abstract

The interest in using Jatropha curcas L. from thefamily Euphorbiaceae for the production of biofuel is rapidlygrowing. The research objective was to determine geneticvariation of several high yielding physic nuts based on theirmorphology, agronomy, and isozyme characters. Theresearch used Completely Randomized Design with threereplications. The treatment was consisted of 8 genotypes i.e.IP-1A, IP-1M, IP-2P, Lombok Timur, Lombok Tengah,Lombok Barat, Sumbawa, and Bima. Analysis of isozyme ofthe eight genotypes was also conducted according to 5enzyme systems, i.e. peroksidase, esterase, aspartataminotransferase, malat dehidrogenase, and alcoholdehidrogenase. Observation was done on qualitative andquantitative characters as well as banding pattern derivedisozymes. The results showed that genetic variation was lowwhen based on qualitative characters and isozyme (0-25%)but relatively high when based on selected quantitativecharacters analysis (17-81%). Analysis of combinedqualitative, quantitative, and isozyme characters still gavelow genetic variation (6-33%). Based on the quantitativecharacters at similarity coefficient of 46% the genotypes canbe devided into three clusters. Improved populationgenotypes, i.e. IP-1A, IP-1M, and IP-2P were placed in 3different clusters, while other genotypes from NTB areawere grouped in the same cluster. Therefore, selectionamong population of the same ecotype based on agronomiccharacters such as yield components, yield and oil contentwas suitable in Jatropha improvement, especially whengenetic variation was low. Furthermore, introduction, mutation and crossing are suggested to increase geneticvariation of current Jatropha collection.

Abstract

Forest clove (Zyzygium aromaticum) is a type of wild clove found in Moluccas. The increasing interest of farmers in cultivating this plant leads to complete their information of morpho-agronomical characteristics which could provide diversity reflecting morpho-agronomical their distribution areas. This study aimed to characterize the morpho-agronomical traits of Forest clove plants in Moluccas. By survey, Forest clove more than 15 year old tree totalling of 50 populations were observed their 54 morpho-agronomical characteristics in two areas (Ambon and Seram) from March to June 2018. Two aromatic cloves, namely Tuni and Zanzibar were used for comparative analysis. The results showed that Forest cloves had a similarity of 78% among the population and grouped into 3 groups with a morpho-agronomical variation of 22%. On the contrary, Forest cloves and comparators (Tuni and Zanzibar) had morpho-agronomical differences of 58%. Based on the main component analysis, there were 11 most influential characters of Forest cloves (leaf size index, leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, petiole length, flower length, diameter of flower tube, ripe flower weight, fruit length, fruit width, and fruit weight) which could be descriptors for this plant species.

Abstract

KUD Tunas Muda is one of the cooperatives active in using information technology to serve the needs of its members, especially related to oil palm activities. However, not all palm oil activities have been carried out through digitization. This paper aims to provide an overview of the readiness of the KUD located in Riau Province in digitizing smallholder oil palm plantations, which include activities in preparing inputs, cultivation, marketing, and receiving payments. This study also aims to analyze strategic priorities that cooperatives can carry out in digitizing smallholder palm oil. This study uses two methods in its analysis, namely descriptive analysis, and analytical hierarchy process. Based on the study, cooperative management is quite prominent in initiating and building digital systems in services for their members. This is because the KUD already has experience in digitalization, although the function is still limited. According to the analysis, the prioritized strategy is to increase the understanding of oil palm farmers, especially among members, in using digital technology and information to support the digitalization of oil palm plantations. Keywords: analytical hierarchy process, cultivation, information technology, KUD Tunas Muda, smallholder plantation

Abstract

The expansion of agricultural commodities including oil palm plantations potentially causes an increase of greenhouse gas emissions by amplifying carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. In the long term, this amplification will alter climate change. However, oil palm also has the potency to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by absorbing CO2 through photosynthesis. This study aims to determine the carbon stock that can be absorbed by oil palm and rubber plants, and to determine the relationship of rainfall with carbon stock in oil palm plants. The study used satellite image data based on Landsat and combined with rainfall data from near Perbaungan District, North Sumatra. Three Landsat data (acquisition date: (i) 12 February 2000, (ii) 8 March 2009, and (iii) 11 August 2019) were processed to estimate carbon stock. The procedure for estimating carbon stock was as follows: determining the sample and digitizing the sampling points, converting the digital value of the numbers into the spectral spectrum, calculating the albedo values, calculating the long-wave and short-wave radiations, computing biomass, and the absorbed carbon stock. The results showed that the carbon stock in oil palm was greater than that of rubber plants as oil palm has a greater biomass. The greater the plant biomass, the bigger the carbon stock absorbed. Further, the findings revealed that rainfall in dry season has a contribution to carbon stock in oil palm and rubber. The higher the total rainfall during dry season will increase the absorbed carbon stocks.
