Abstract

One of the problems in smallholder oil palm plantations was the financing for replanting and loss of revenues during immature oil palm period. One alternative to the problem was the development of an adaptive plant system through intercropping crops planted among immature oil palm crops. The research was conducted in banjar seminai village, dayun subdistrict, siak regency, Riau Province on May to October 2017. The study used a factorial randomized block design with three replications. Annual crops treatment consists of corn, soybean, eggplant and chili. The results showed that there was positive response of oil palm height on intercropping systems. Corn intercropping plants increased the height of oil palm crops. The intercropping plants had no significant effect on the number of leaf midrib and the width of oil palm canopy. Monoculture oil palm crops without intercropping produced average emissions of 8.78 t CO2 ha-1yr-1. Oil palm intercrop with eggplant and soybean produces the highest CO2 emissions of 10.4 and 10.2 t CO2 ha-¹yr-¹, while oil palm in intercrop with chili produced the lowest CO2 emissions of 8.66 t CO2 ha-1yr-¹.

Abstract

ABSTRACTCashew nut shells have not been fully utilized untill recently, and most of them are still in a form of wastes.  Cashew nut shell wastes are organic matter containing macro elements that are useful for plants, such as N (0.84%), P (0.21%), K (0.70%), Ca (0.13%) and Mg (0.24%) that are useful for plants. Cashew nut shell wastes would be very potential if they were composted into organic fertilizers. The aim of this research was to analyze the effect of cashew nut shell compost formula application on growth and nutrient uptake of cashew seedlings. The research was conducted at IPB Teaching Farm Dramaga Bogor from November 2012 to May 2013. The experiment was arranged in randomized complete block design with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The results showed, that cashew nut shell compost formula application at 50 g polybag-1 and 100 g  polybag-1 were significantly increased plant height, leaf number, stem diameter, roots length, fresh weight, dry weight of seedling, and N, P, K uptake at 3 months after planting (MAP) compared to no compost (top soil). The treatment of cashew nut shell compost formula at 50 g polybag-1 showed not significantly compared with goat manure at 100 g polybag-1 on the  plant height, stem diameter, leaf number, roots length and N, P, K uptake at 3 MAP. Both  of the  treatment can improve the balance of nutrients in the soil thus enhancing the growth and vigor of cashew seedling. The treatment of cashew nut shell compost formula (50 g polybag-1) could replace the treatment of goat manure (100 g polibag-1) tended to increase cashew seedling growth. Keywords: A. occidentale L., bioactivator, cashew seedling, KBM compost

Abstract

Canavalia ensiformis (koro beans) is a leguminous plant known for its high adaptability, productivity, and nutritional value, making it a viable alternative protein source to soybean meal. Planting koro beans using an intercropping model is a sustainable land use practice during the oil palm replanting period. This study aims to evaluate the productivity of koro beans and explore the potential of utilizing ex-coal mining land for oil palm plantations in South Kalimantan. The experiment included various fertilization treatments are, K (control = no fertilizer), A (2 tons of lime 5 tons of poultry manure ha-1); B (2 tons of lime and 10 tons of poultry manure ha-1); C (4 tons of lime and 5 tons of poultry manure ha-1); and D (4 tons of lime and 10 tons of poultry manure ha-1). The spacing between oil palm- koro plants and corn- koro plants were 105 cm and 35 cm, respectively. The multiple intercropping models (oil palm, corn, and koro bean) demonstrated the high adaptability of the sword bean over a three-month period post-planting. Fertilization treatments resulted in better koro bean production compared to the control treatment. The best results were observed with the application of 2 tons of lime and 10 tons of poultry manure ha-1, which significantly influenced all production parameters. This model can be implemented during replanting oil pal plantation. Abstract

This study aimed to analyse the effect of exopolysaccharide-producing (EPS) bacteria on rice growth and yield under mercury stress induced by applying 40 mg HgCl? to each bucket containing 10 kg of soil. The research was conducted on a plastic-house scale in Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia, from December 2025 to March 2026. The experimental design used was a two-factor factorial completely randomized design. The first factor was rice variety (IR 64 and Sertani). The second factor was no bacterial treatment versus bacterial consortium treatment (Priestia megaterium, Priestia aryabhattai, Pseudarthrobacter defluvii, and Burkholderia vietnamiensis). Each treatment was replicated three times. The results showed that there was no interaction between bacterial treatment and the tested rice varieties. In the IPB 9G and Sertani cultivars, the bacterial consortium increased tillers per hill, total productive tillers per hill, root dry weight, and shoot dry weight. It also increased 1,000-grain weight, filled-grain weight per panicle and per hill, and the number of filled grains per panicle. Compared with the control, the bacterial consortium treatment increased filled grain weight per hill by 25.76% in the IPB 9G variety and by 60.77% in the Sertani variety. Based on PCA, the variables contributing to PC1 were panicle length (PL) (0.925), PW (0.869), and PH (0.859). Correlation analysis showed that panicle weight (PW) and number of filled grains per panicle (NFGPP) (r = 0.98).
