Abstract

Children with cancer experience various unpleasant experiences, both because of the disease and due tomedical procedures. Pediatric nurses are expected to apply the principle of atraumatic care to reduce unpleasantexperiences, such as controlling children's pain and anxiety. The aim of this study was to determine the effectof lavender aromatherapy inhalation on anxiety and pain in children with cancer who underwent infusionprocedures. This study used a quasi experimental design with non-equivalent control group design post-testonly. The sample selection used consecutive sampling at Sanglah Hospital Bali, involving 60 respondents. Theresults showed that lavender aromatherapy intervention had a significant effect on pain during infusionprocedures in children with cancer with a p value = <0.0001 (<0.05), but different results were shown inchildren's anxiety with p value = 0.523 (> 0, 05). Thus, aromatherapy intervention can be used as one of theinterventions that nurses can do in the ward to implement the Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) forpain management in children during invasive procedures.

Abstract

Elderly undergo a reduction in physical functions, especially in the musculoskeletal system, such as a decrease in muscle power, which affects their capacity to sustain body equilibrium and raises the likelihood of falling. Balance training can assist in enhancing balance by boosting muscle contractions and fiber strength, which consequently improves muscle power and helps maintain an upright posture, thus lowering the chances of falls. The goal of this research is to assess the effect of balance training on the balance level in reducing fall risk among the elderly. This study used a pre-experimental research design with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 49 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data collection instruments included a balance level measurement sheet using the Time Up and Go Test (TUGT) and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Balance Exercise. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a difference in the average balance level before (pretest) performing the balance exercise, which was 21.80 seconds, compared to the average balance level after (posttest) performing the balance exercise, which was 16.27 seconds. The analysis showed a calculated z-value of -6.059, which is greater than the table z-value of 1.960, with a p-value of 0.00 (p-value < 0.05). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, concluding that balance exercises affect the level of balance in the elderly, thus reducing fall risk. It is recommended for the elderly to practice balance exercises regularly twice a week

Abstract

Toddlers are susceptible to fever because their immune systems are immature. Non-pharmacological managements, such as warm compresses and tepid sponge baths, are commonly used to reduce fever. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of warm compresses and tepid sponge baths in lowering body temperature in toddlers on the first day of fever. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design was used, involving 30 toddlers at TK II Udayana Denpasar Hospital. Respondents were selected through purposive sampling and divided into two groups: tepid sponge (n=15) and warm compress (n=15). Subjects belonging to the intervention group were administered tepid sponge baths, and subjects in the control group were applied warm compresses. Each group was given 20 minutes of treatment using lukewarm water with a temperature no higher than 43°C. Body temperature was measured using a calibrated digital thermometer before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed using paired t-tests for within-group differences and independent t-tests for between-group comparisons. Both interventions significantly reduced body temperature in toddlers with fever on the first day (p=0.001). The average temperature decrease in the tepid sponge group was 1.14°C (p value 0,001), slightly higher than the temperature drop in the warm compress group, which is 0.99°C (p value 0,001). Statistical analysis showed a significant difference in effectiveness between the two interventions (p value 0.001), with tepid sponge being more efficacious. Tepid sponge baths are more effective than warm compresses in reducing fever in toddlers on the first day. Nurses are encouraged to apply tepid sponge therapy as an alternative to pharmacological interventions to minimize the side effects of antipyretic drugs.

Abstract

Children aged 0–6 years are in a golden phase of growth and development because the brain develops optimally in intellectual, emotional, and social aspects. Delayed early detection during this period can increase the risk of disabilities due to late treatment. Posyandu Balita plays a crucial role as a forum for parents to monitor their children's growth and development. However, many Posyandu still face obstacles, such as non-digital data collection systems, less than optimal education, and ineffective task allocation, thus reducing the quality of services. This community service activity aims to improve the quality of Posyandu Balita services through the use of a technology-based Pre-Screening Development Questionnaire (KPSP) at the Posyandu in Carangsari Village for early detection of child developmental disorders. The activity was carried out on September 25, 30, and October 2, 2025, through preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. The results of the activity showed an increase in the knowledge of health workers, cadres, and Posyandu participants, facilitating task allocation, documenting child data, implementing health education, and reducing the risk of data loss.

Abstract

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an important skill for nursing students. The process of learning high-quality CPR with a simulation-based learning method can be developed into a simulation game. In order to develop a CPR HQ simulation game, a clinical scenario that can be used as a guide in carrying out storyboards is needed. This research aims to formulate a simulation scenario that will serve as the basis for developing a high-quality CPR simulation game to increase nursing students' competency. This qualitative research uses a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach by inviting 15 respondents from the prospective user population, namely Emergency Nursing Lecturers, Emergency Room Nurses, BLS Trainers, and nursing students, to carry out Focus Group Discussions. The study's results revealed clinical scenarios that were arranged based on 4 themes, including 1) suitability of the competency being tested, 2) minimum competency for 5 cycles of CPR, 3) settings in the pre-and intrahospital scope, and 4) choice of patient outcome. These components are crucial when designing simulation scenarios that support students’ cognitive processes to achieve High-Quality CPR in nursing students. Thus, the results of this research can then be used as a guide in developing the HQ-CPR game as a learning medium for nursing students.
