Abstract

Teacher Professional development or TPD is a program that develops teachers’ competency to teach. This study observed how teachers who previously completed the TPD program applied thematic learning for teaching environmental issues. Classroom practice of five junior high school teachers who recently completed 32 hours of TPD was observed. Classroom observation suggested that classroom activity was varied. Their decision in designing their lesson brings about a difference in their students’ ability to understand and communicate current environmental issues. All teachers use a problem-based learning approach, which they believe to be challenging to implement before participating in TPD.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an instrument that measures students' attitudes toward physics ang to test its validity and reliability. This instrument was a result of a modification from the PAS Questionnaire, namely IMPAS. This research novelty is making a new instrument that solves the shortcomings in PAS Questionnaire. So, this instrument can be used by teachers and researcers in Indonesia. The target of this IMPAS Questionnaire will be high school students in Indonesia. Using the ADDIE research model, the IMPAS Questionnaire was successfully developed and tested on 156 high school students. The IMPAS Questionnaire consists of 24 positive, negative, neutral positive, and neutral negative statements. The results of the CVR analysis and the Rasch model provide an understanding that the IMPAS Questionnaire has good content and construct validity. So, the IMPAS Questionnaire can be stated to have the ability to measure students' attitudes toward physics accurately. In addition, the results of the Rasch model analysis provide an understanding that the IMPAS Questionnaire has a moderate person reliability, excellent item reliability, and good internal consistency. Therefore, the IMPAS Questionnaire can be stated to have sufficient consistency in measuring students' attitudes toward physics. Thus, the development of an instrument to measure students' attitudes toward physics has been done successfully. Abstract

One of the 21st century skills is critical thinking skills. However, according to several research results, it shows that students’ critical thinking skills in Indonesia are still low. This is caused by inappropriate learning process, so that it has an impact on the effectiveness of achieving competence in learning. Teaching materials are one of the most important parts that support the learning process. A module is a form of teaching material that is structured to help students master learning objectives. Modules to practice critical thinking skills according to 21st century skills, which are integrated with the STEM approach. Therefore, this study aims to develop a STEM-based physics module with self-regulated learning to train students critical thinking skills. The SRL agent will assist students in studying the material in the module. The method used is a mixed method, with an exploratory sequential design. Mixed method is a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods in a study. Qualitative data is needed in designing physics modules, while quantitative data is needed to determine the validity of the modules feasibility in practicing critical thinking skills. The critical thinking skills instrument was developed based on aspects of critical thinking skills according to Ennis. Data collection comes from expert validation result sheets. The results of this development indicate that STEM-based modules with SRL agents are feasible to use properly. And during the learning process is expected to improve students critical thinking skills. Therefore, students critical thinking skills still need to be studied in learning.
