<![CDATA[Berbicara merupakan salah satu keterampilan bahasa Inggris yang harus dikuasai. Artinya, mahasiswa tidak hanya mengusai menulis, mendengar, dan membaca, tapi mereka juga harus bisa menyampaikannya dengan berbicara. Dimana, mahasiswa harus menemukan strategi untuk menghilangkan kecemasan ketika berbicara bahasa Inggris dan mengimplementasikannya dengan cara yang benar, khususnya mahasiswa di kelas Speaking III di Tadris bahasa Inggris STAIN Batusangkar. <![CDATA[The purpose of this study was to describe the attitude of the language towards the politeness of the language of the students of Putera Batam University. This study used a survey method. The sample in this study were 43 students of English Literature. Data obtained from observation sheets and questionnaires. Assessment is done using a Likert scale. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistics using technical regression analysis. The results of the study showed that language attitudes had a positive effect on student politeness. This finding recommends that the development of language attitudes will improve student language politeness. This study aims to analyze the language attitude of students of the English Literature study program at Putera University, then analyze the politeness of the students of the English Literature Study Program at the Putera Batam University. And the influence of language attitudes on the politeness of the language of students of English Literature Study Program, Putera Batam University.]]>

<![CDATA[At present, the ability to write scientifically becomes an important skill mastered by students. Students need to have good writing skills using reasoning and logic that focuses on what must be believed or done based on mechanisms, such as doing conceptual analysis and arguments for problem solving and decision making. The concept of semantic mapping is an effective strategy to improve student writing skills. This study explores the effectiveness of the concept of semantic mapping in the development of students' writing skills in essay writing. This study was classified into a quasi-experimental design. In this study the population is students of Universal Batam University who are registered in the 2018-2019 academic year. The instrument of this research is a writing test. Data were analyzed with several analyzes, namely normality testing, homogeneity testing, and hypothesis testing. In testing the research hypothesis, the researcher used the t-test for the related sample and the Wilcoxon test. Based on the analysis it was found that the average score of students in the pre test was 7.89 and the average score of the students in the post test was 12. T-score count is t = 3.83 and a significant standard of 0.05. While t table is only 2,306. Because t count is greater than t table (tobserved> t table), so the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hi) is accepted. So, based on these results, it was concluded that there was a statistical difference between the pre-test at the 0.05 level. This means that learning argumentative writing based on the theory of semantic mapping has a significant influence on students' argumentative writing skills.]]>

<![CDATA[Membaca merupakan salah satu kemampuan yang harus dikuasai oleh mahasiswa jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Riau Kepulauan. Pada kenyataannya siswa Bahasa Inggris Universitas Riau Kepulauan mempunyai masalah didalam pemahaman membaca, hal ini mungkin disebabkan oleh minimnya strategi membaca yang mereka kuasai atau gunakan didalam menguasai keterampilan membaca. Jurnal ini bertujuan untuk menemukan: Stretegi membaca bahasa Inggris yang digunakan oleh siswa; Kemampuan siswa didalam pemahaman membaca. Jurnal ini menggunakan metoda deskriptif kuantitatif. Pupulasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa semester dua jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Riau Kepulauan. <![CDATA[The aimed of this research is to analyze the function of the conversational implicature found in a famous American TV show, named F.R.I.E.N.D.S. The researcher used the conversational implicature theory by Grice (1975) to identify the utterance and the speech acts theory by Searle (1976) to categorize the function. The design of this research is qualitative research. The researcher used the interview method by Sudaryanto (2015) to collect data, the pragmatic identity method by Sudaryanto (2015) to analyze the data, and used the informal presentation method by Sudaryanto (2015) to present the research result. The researcher collected ten data that contain conversational implicature, and two of the data categorized as representatives/ assertives, three data categorized as directives, two data categorized as commissives, two data categorized as expressive, and the remaining data categorized as declarations. The result concludes that out of the ten analyzed data, directives is the most used speech acts in the TV show.]]>

<![CDATA[This article represented the study of pragmatic to investigate directive act. The purpose of investigation is to find out the types of directive acts on movie “Joker 2019”. The researchers applied theory ofAllan (1997)about directive act. The researchdesignpresented in the qualitative method.In collecting the data, the researchersappliedobservational method and note-taking technique. In analyzing the data,the researchers applied pragmatic identity method and classify technique by sudaryanto. In the analysis, the researchers found the types of directive speech act. This research had 15 data from types of directive speech acts which was separated into requestives (4 data), requirements (2 data), questions(2 data), prohibitives (2 data), permissives (1 data) and advisories.]]>

<![CDATA[The ability to speak English is one of the skills that must be possessed by students as their expertise that can be used in the field of work and is also important for teachers to teach and practice in the learning process. In the world of work, children who have graduated are required to have skills in communicating in English, and communication students are also expected to understand communication literacy. Many are good at speaking English but sometimes lack direction and lack of knowledge about communication literacy. On this occasion, the lecturers of Putera Batam University held a Coaching for Students and Teachers on Profession English Proficiency and Communication Law Literacy for Teachers and Students at MTs Manbaa'ul Nurul Hidayah Batam. The method used is by collecting data from observations, questionnaires and group discussions. The result of this service is that participants already understand English and communication legal literacy. There are 60% of the participants who have practiced English and communication law literacy.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this research is to find the functions of conversational implicature in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie based on Grice's theory by using Cooperative Principle as a guidance. Conversational implicature is how the same sentence can be understood to have two opposite meanings even though both are conveyed explicitly. Cooperative Principles are often interpreted as general guidelines that cover conversational interactions. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the data proposed by Sudaryanto 2015 namely the observational method. Researchers collected with are several steps taken by the researcher, first the researcher watched the movie and transcribed the conversation, the second researcher checked the utterance containing the implicature, the third researcher analyzed the highlighted data. Based on the research findings, the most dominant maxim violations that occur in this movie are relation maxim with 10 data, quality maxim violation with 6 data, quantity maxim violation with 2 data, then maxim of manner violation with 2 data.]]>

<![CDATA[SMK Bisa, SMK Hebat, and SMK Siap Kerja are the mottos that are often heard today as motto in SMK. Vocational High Schools are specifically directed to master a vocational from an early age so that Vocational High School graduates have specific abilities and can be competitive in the world of work. The current world of work also does not only master on hard skills, communication plays an important role for these students to support the vocational soft skill abilities. English as a medium of communication is also the most important role in the world of work. Moving on from the need to master communication with English media, the team of this community training took the initiative to go down to school to share their knowledge, especially in terms of English speaking. In communication skills are also needed to build an interesting atmosphere. Therefore, the rhetorical communication is needed as a way to build interesting atmosphere in speaking. Moving on from these problems the community team collaborated with language and social science experts implemented this activity by sharing knowledge toward vocational school in Batam. This training activity applied the community education with training and practice course technique. The training provided is oriented towards improving speaking and communication rhetoric skills through speech and debate methods. The results of this activity showed that students begin to enjoy practicing communication as speech speakers or debate speakers. Through this method, students felt more confident to speak English because they talk about contemporary topics and are close to the world of teenagers themselves.]]>

<![CDATA[The aim of this training was to acknowledge the SMK students the skills of communication. Public speaking was the main topic of this training. Public speaking mastery affects people’s relationship, leadership, and attitudes. The SMK graduates must have public speaking skill for their future when they are welcomed in workplace. The collaboration of the vocational skills, public speaking skill, and English-speaking skill will enter the graduates to the successful future. This training was held at SMKN 7 Batam from November 10th to 11th, 2022 with MM, RPL, TKJ, TITL, and TJAT students as the participants. This activity applied the community education with training-course technique. The training included mentoring, discussion, and practice in which the materials were the strategies of public speaking and basic course of English. The result of the activity was the educating the participants in controlling fear and anxiety while speaking in public. Besides, it was increasing the participants’ confidence. ]]>
